today’s shenanigans ✨
online courses and some harry potter reading. my day couldn’t get any better!
My notes tend to look like this weird love child of a pretentious literature student and a chaotic stem student and honestly... I’m okay with it
I still can’t get over the fact this is the same person, 2 years apart.
This morning I put cinnamon in my ~iced~ coffee and proceeded to drink it from a wine glass because honestly... why not?

I PASSED
I PASSED MY NCLEX YA’LL! I’m so excited. I’ve been MIA since my graduation. And it’s been a month of doing nothing but studying but I did it! 75 questions in an hour and half with no math. I was 100% positive I failed. “Oh my. She’s terrible. Shut her down” is exactly what I imagined the test saying. But I did it. I’m your newest registered nurse!
Quick reminder,
This quarantine isn’t a productivity competition.
You do not have to:
- lose weight
- work out every day and get a 16 pack of abs
- cure acne
- master a new skill
- read 17 books
- change yourself in anyway
By saying you’re going to use this time to “glow up” is implying that you’re not already shining but bb you sure are.
It is ok to not lose 15 pounds and don’t beat yourself up if you gain a lil bit either. It’s natural, you’re at home and walks to the kitchen are pretty common.
It’s ok not to work out every day and get absolutely shredded. Sure get your exercise but don’t beat yourself up over not doing an intensive 30 day butt and ab workout. Who the flip cares!
It’s fine not to master a new skill. Sure find something to keep you occupied but you don’t need to master a whole new skill just because. Arts and stuff takes years to master don’t feel bad because you can’t get there in a week.
You do not need to change yourself in anyway. This is quarantine, our main goal is to survive. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not solving world hunger or turning yourself into a model and certainty don’t beat anyone else up if they’re not.
This is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, you can’t achieve Self Actualisation if have not achieved your psychological needs and you can’t get psychological without basic needs.
Pretty much, make sure your wellbeing is in top knick before you try to accomplish every goal you’ve ever set or ever will set.
Keep safe and much love,
Charlie xx

the old me is staring at the new me like:
*sigh*
I can’t explain how terrified I am about applying to physician assistant school. I keep overthinking that I won’t be accepted. I look at my GPA, my patient care hours, and the activities I do outside of my community and I still feel like I’m not good enough to be a potential candidate.
Of course my intrusive thoughts are blocking the potential I may have. But sometimes I can’t help by thinking too much. I don’t have the greatest grades or community service background. And yet that negativity won’t get me anywhere. I’m so lost right now, and so scared. I feel like this is a journey I’m going through alone. I’ve been through so much in 2018 that not being accepted to PA school in 2019 will break me.

lazy study tips
1. use quizlet. quizlet is amazing because you can access your flashcards on your phone!! this way you can easily flip through them while waiting in line, watching tv, etc.
2. use the pomodoro technique. if you’re lazy like i am, sitting down for 6+ hours a day to study can be daunting. giving yourself multiple breaks throughout a study session will help to keep you going!
3. watch youtube videos. watching videos or listening to podcasts on the topic you’re studying could be a huge time saver and is a lot more interesting than flipping through a textbook. and you can easily do this in bed!! (i would not advise to do this instead of using a textbook all together just in case information is left out of the video)
4. try to build a steady study routine. block out a chunk of time in the middle of the day every day for studying. this way, you know that when the time is up, you have the rest of the day to relax!
5. get sleep. i’ve found that i’m at my laziest when i haven’t been sleeping much. avoid being sluggish throughout the day and get some rest! this will cut back on nap/rest time and increase productivity during the day.
6. consider the consequences of not studying. which will benefit you more in the long run- getting your work done now, or watching another episode?
7. reward yourself. give yourself a little treat (a piece of candy, etc.) after completing a set amount of work. this will keep you motivated to keep studying!
8. just start. the hardest part of studying is starting- force yourself to sit down and open up your notes.
as always, thanks for reading! x
10 Things I Wish I Knew Before University
You are going to feel like dropping out. I would say to stick it out for the first year and sit for finals. If you get a good grade for your finals, that could really give your confidence a boost and motivate you to keep going. And then, if you still feel like dropping out or changing majors, you should do as much research as possible.
Feeling pressured to do more things. During my first year, I said yes to everything–even things that I didn’t feel like doing. I felt like if I didn’t, I’d be missing out on something really important or fun. FOMO, basically. However, more often than not, I wasn’t missing much and these opportunities will arise again very soon.
Buying too many unnecessary things. I bought so many stationery and notebooks before I started uni in hopes that they would motivate me to study. I ended up not using even half of them my first year. At least, I’d be set for supplies until I graduate.
Revising in uni is not the same as revising in high school. I used to think I could study last minute for a test, like I did in high school. I learned the hard way that that wasn’t the case at all. Now, I review the topics after every lecture. The key is to keep up because all those lectures are going to pile up really fast.
Past papers are your new best friend. I find that professors have their favourite questions that they like to give out. During finals, they might even use the same exact questions as they did in tests!
Failing/Getting a low grade in a test isn’t going to ruin your life. I once got so caught up on that one test. But luckily during finals, I snapped out of it and just tried my best. My final grade wasn’t too bad. You live and you learn.
Wear whatever you want (as long as it doesn’t get you in trouble). When I wear a hoodie and sweatpants, I get comments that I look like I just rolled out of bed (which I did, duh). And when I have really nice makeup on and do my hair, I’m trying to impress someone. I think people just like to run their mouth and it’s nothing personal, so you shouldn’t care what they say anyway.
Keep in touch with friends outside your university. It can really come in handy during times when you really have to vent about someone in your classes. They can also help you keep grounded and have a different perspective.
You don’t have to love the library. I’m the kind of girl who studies lying on her stomach on the bed with papers and books surrounding me and my cat stepping on them occasionally. I think the library is too quiet and public for me. And if you’re the same way and prefer the cafe or elsewhere, then that’s okay too. The goal here is that you get your studying done.
Stay healthy. Whenever it’s near finals, I would abandon every other responsibility except studying. I would stop eating healthy and quit exercising, all in the name of making time to study. But they should go hand-in-hand with studying and not one or the other. I find that the better I take care of myself, the better my grades are. You should also get enough sleep–this, I never fail to do.

As a kid i would imagine my future self studying in domed buildings, surrounded by oceans of books and inked words.
dark academia on a budget
(because not only rich people can be dark academics)
-thrifting with friends for old sweaters that someone’s grandfather must have worn
-getting second (or third or fourth) hand books and reading the notes that other people left in them
-making sure everything is tidy and clean, no matter what
-adopting a minimalist aesthetic
-or making your own decorations (which then makes you better at lettering and art)
-sitting in a local cafe and buying the cheapest thing so that you can study there (and making sure that you tip as much as you can)
-reading poetry online, printing your favorites, and posting them on your walls
-taking as much of your family’s clothing that they’ll let you have
-rotating the same few shirts, pants, and shoes without anyone noticing
-a lack of jewelry (because there are more important things)
-sitting outside at a park to read or write
-looking outside windows on public transport while listening to somber music
