Frenchman’s Creek Gourmet Wine Dinner - Jan. 6th, 2016
On January 6th, Frenchman's Creek Beach & Country Club hosted a particularly special Gourmet Wine Dinner - and what a night it was. Turnout was through the roof and each of Chef Bernd’s dishes was perfectly complimented by a wine from Alberto Prealoni of Vias Wines. Here's what Stephen Fisher - Frenchman's Creek Sommelier - had to say about it.
Frenchman’s Creek Wine & Food Lovers,
What an evening this was. Usually the Gourmet Wine Dinners have about 45 people in attendance. Tonight Alberto Prealoni from Vias Wines spoke to 83 people in attendance. Alberto, who lived in Piedmont till the age of 28 has a widespread background in Italian Food & Wine. The wines were definitely different, elegant and interesting. It was exciting to hear the comments of people as I went through the very different types of wines from northern Italy. Many had predetermined thought on the wines and when they tasted them they were much different.
Chef Bernd did a great job matching the wines. One member commented, “You two make a great pair”. His staff did a great job in execution with Kyle’s Main Dining Room wait staff.Â
The service was smooth and precise. Below is the menu. If you’d like to purchase some of the wines from the dinner please get back to me with your order by 3pm Thursday (Tomorrow).
REMINDER: On January 13th we will have our next Wine Dinner at the Beach Club. Present will be Philip Titus via skype. Phillip in addition the being the winemaker at Chappellet, has a small winery with his brother Eric a few miles down the road and makes well balanced robust reds. One of the wines featured at this dinner is his Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chef Ernesto of the Beach Club will complement the wines from Titus Vineyards that evening with a four course Gourmet Dinner that will be elegant and tantalizing.
Call the Beach Club at 561.624.3400 to reserve your seat for this special event next Wednesday the 13th of January.

Robert Bruno Awarded the PGA Deason Palmer Award
This past Monday night, on November 16th, South Florida PGA held it Annual Awards and Fall of Fame Dinner at the Wycliffe Golf & Country Club. It was a night of celebrating, fine food and fine friends as 180 South Florida PGA Members congratulated the newest Hall of Fame inductees.
Among the many fine golf professionals awarded, none made us more proud than our very own Robert Bruno - Frenchman’s Creek Golf Director - who was awarded the prestigious Deacon Palmer Award.
The Deacon Palmer Award is bestowed upon a PGA Golf Professional of outstanding integrity, leadership and character in overcoming a major obstacle in their life. This individual serves to empower others both inside and outside the game.
Robert Bruno's story is a hero's tale. In 2012, Robert was diagnosed with ALS. He quickly begun stem cell treatments and other drug therapies to slow the advancement of the disease during which time a cure is hoped to be found. Currently, Robert is awaiting stem cell surgery to hopefully take place within the year.
Looking at Robert you would never know his condition. Robert hasn't let his ALS affect him for the worse and serves as a mentor for other ALS patients on top of overseeing our golf department at Frenchman's Creek. His positive outlook is a true inspiration for all those he touches including friends, peers, golfers and strangers. We're honored to have him on staff and hope you enjoy his contagious personality as much as we do!
Beach Read: Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne du Maurier
As the weather begins to cool into a perfect Florida fall, beach days and poolside sun sessions grow a little longer. No time is better to kick back with a good beach read than right now. Looking for a suggestion? This fall season we’re flying through the pages of Daphne du Maurier’s historical novel Frenchman’s Creek.
Pirates. Intrigue. Scandal. A love story. This book has it all, beautifully wrapped into a great read that makes for an engrossing beach ride. Frenchman’s Creek was written by Daphne Du Maurier, British author and playwright, who’s more famous works The Birds and Rebecca have been adapted into award-winning films.
During World War II, Daphnee’s husband was away much of the time. Because of this, Daphnee and her children were invited to stay with friends in Hertfordshire. Daphne was needed to help with the household, a position Daphne was very unaccustomed to, and quickly grew tired of her unromantic position. It was during this time she wrote Frenchman’s Creek which was then published by Victor Gollancz in 1941.
Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne Du Maurier
Frenchman’s Creek is the beguiling story about a woman finding herself in love on the high seas. Our heroine of the book is Dona, Lady St. Columb, wife of Harry and mother to their two small children Henrietta and James. Dona travels with her children to Navron, the remote estate of her husband in Cornwall. Tired of the shallow politics of court life in London, she makes her temporary escape. But to her surprise, she finds it has been abandoned for several years and is now used as home base by the notorious French pirate, Jean-Benoit Aubrey - terrorist of the Cornish coast. Despite his renegade reputation Dona discovers Jean-Benoit Aubrey is not only cultured, but well educated - even more so than her husband - and she quickly falls in love.
Dona decides to run away with Jean-Benoit Aubrey and set sail as a fugitive on the high seas. She trades in her petticoats for trousers and dresses as a boy to join the pirate crew. The outcome of her adventures? You’ll just have to read Frenchman’s Creek to find out.
