Obviously my blog is centred around Ethel Cain so I figured I should probably comment.

#1 : The racist screenshots. As a white Ethel Cain fan, it's disappointing to see the way many other white fans are disregarding poc fans and the way they feel about it. It's not something funny - it's serious. Particularly when the entire southern goth/Americana aesthetics have a controversial history.

That being said, Hayden was raised in a conservative, Christian background. I can understand why she adopted these beliefs. However, she has been outspoken about her politics recently and seems to hold progressive views.For example, during a live in 2023 she addressed the racist history of the Americana aesthetic. That being said, we don't know her. We are simply fans. The parasocial relationship many fans have with her is concerning.

#2 : the 'legalise incest' shirt. She has an album called inbred. I genuinely think it was just a play on that. Obviously, it's off putting. But her music has themes of incest, abuse, cannibalisation, death, ect. Her art is weird. I don't see how this is surprising in any way.

Do you seriously think the girl who wrote 'hard times' thinks incest is something positive? A song that doesn't commodify incest but instead gently addresses the way it can effect victims?

#3 : Her boyfriend. If the allegations are true, I doubt Hayden was aware of his past. Her music addresses the horrors of sexual assault many times. Her music is based on what it's like being a woman and the horrors that come with it.

Again; we do not know Hayden personally. We are not entitled to know anything about her personal life. If Hayden decides to completely limit fan interactions outside of promotion, I won't be surprised. Everybody's fixation and strange idea of knowing her on a personal level is concerning. While it will be sad to get less content, it is understandable why she would make that decision.
