DEAR DIARY-- I FUCKING HATE IT HERE.

JD stopped on a step below her before turning around to look up at her. Using his arm on the banister to stop her from moving forward, “Don’t think of it as causing problems, but correcting them. No one is going to miss people that caused them so much misery,” he reminded her and leaned just a little into her when she did the same, “The only problem you get from me is to actually go through the door,” he teased her.

“Uh huh.” Veronica rolls her eyes. She’s not outright denying him, though-- she just doesn’t want it to happen again. Three people is more than enough (and already way more than they can handle, peeking around corners like they do). She’s still in a playful mood, teasing him. “You better hope that’s the only problem I get from you.”

          “that  all  sounds  nice.  especially  the  dress  part.  did  you  decide  on  any?”  anything  involving  fashion  excited  cindy,  especially  as  a  glamour  shots  stylist  when  giving  people  makeovers  was  part  of  her  job.  it’s  one  of  her  specialties.  “amaaaazing,”  cindy  spills  in  answer  to  veronica’s  question,  a  lot  more  lucid  than  the  last  time  they  met.  she  has  a  smile  like  she’s  got  a  secret  that  blooms  and  warms  up  her  entire  face  with  a  hinted  fuchsia  blush.  “i  went  to  another  party,  and…  a  lot  happened.”  she  giggles,  unable  to  stop  thinking  about  last  weekend  from  the  first  time  someone  kissed  her  and  the  hilarious  drama  that  ensued.  “and  i  bought  some  new  outfits  for  when  it  gets  warmer.  god,  i’m  so  over  winter.”  she  hugs  herself  even  in  her  tight  pink  sweater  and  the  slightly  oversized  denim  jacket  she’s  wearing  over  it,  but  it’s  not  enough  to  kill  her  good  mood.

“Intuition, actually.” The barista knows Agnes and her order well enough by now, and accepts the cash from Agnes. “The way you were carrying yourself, tell-tale sign of needing a good cup of coffee.”

Not that she could blame any of them for that, while Gertrude never carried herself that way, Agnes could still tell that there was something dragging her down. “Come, sit down, I’ll grab it for you when it’s ready.”

“Well, I’m certainly not going to complain. Seriously, thank you.” They sound almost relieved. A coffee break, though with a stranger, might just be enough to get that damn static in her head to shut up.
