something about frida's use of the present tense made his chest tighten. because she was right, kuina meant everything to him, even now. especially now.
zoro had never gone into detail about the pain of losing kuina with anyone before; he had never planned on it, not even thinking about it with himself...except for every now and then, when something about the air hit his nose just so, and it almost smells like the lily pond they would train by, skimming stones and chasing koi through the water. it's those moments where his chest physically ached thinking of how he wished she could have met his crew, how she could have met frida. she would have loved her.
he took a deep breath to soothe his racing heart and blinked the warning sting in his eye away. he's really gotta work on this "feelings" crap.
"uhm...okay," his voice wavered slightly, nodding at her words. he had no idea what else to say. but he knew what the exhaustion that weighed on his spirit would say.
i've been carrying this hurt since i was ten years old and it will inevitably haunt me forever.
