According to UN experts, common methods of torture in places of detention include the use of sexualized violence, mainly against men. Many prisoners suffered serious injuries and mutilations. One civilian victim told the Commission that “the perpetrators did everything silently and professionally.” “That’s how I realized that they tortured many people, and they didn’t even consider us human beings,” says one of the former prisoners.

Most of the victims emphasized the profound psychological impact of the experience on them and their families. They noted that they had difficulty rebuilding relationships with loved ones, returning to society, and they needed psychological and social support.
