Self-sacrifice

Simon Blackquill spent seven years in prison for a crime he didn't commit to save Athena Cykes, showing self-sacrifice. The unselfish surrender of well-being for the welfare of Athena Cykes. He feels great responsibility over little Athena, that's why he sacrificed himself in order to protect his mentor's most precious 'treasure'

People caught in this cycle often find it difficult to accept support or express their own emotional needs, which we see during the game when he resolutely refuses help from his sister and Bobby Fulbright.

But of course, his self- sacrifice brought him great trouble.

Aggression

Environmental Stressors & Trauma: Ongoing triggers like chronic stress, sleep deprivation, and past experiences with violence can significantly lower a person's threshold for frustration, turning minor annoyances into major outbursts.

Jinxie points out his eyebags during her testimony, she says: "I meant your bags. The one's under your eyes. You must have trouble sleeping." And gives him a charm which Blackquill replies with: "Ah. Thank you." This proves that he's struggling with sleep deprivation. We know Simon Blackquill was obsessing over the phantom and with his upcoming execution date it all points to him having too much pressure on his back and being under stress all the time. These factors probably caused most of his outbursts such as breaking his cuffs and attempting to slice the defence and witnesses.

Blackquill uses psychological warfare against defendants and judges to turn the court in his favor. He analyzes personality traits and uses manipulation, intimidation, or flattery to compel reluctant testimonies. This is a technique he has learnt from Metis Cykes and used for his benefit in court.

Lack of self-esteem

He keeps claiming he's "beyond redemption, a cold hearted murderer". He didn't even told anyone about his execution date and made Fulbright promise that he wouldn't tell anyone which shows us that he doubts anyone cares so he brings himself down with his own hands. He doesn't believe anyone would care if he were to die even though they show clear distress about the situation, take his sister, Aura Blackquill, as an example. The day before he was supposed to get executed she shows up and tells him they have to do something, Simon brushes it off and tells her to not get involved. In the end Aura has to take matters into her hands by taking people hostage and forcing the court to reopen his case. If it weren't for her Simon would simply have died because he didn't valued himself as someone who was worth saving.

A great representation of emotional numbness and lack of personality. The masks we see is a metaphor for him not having a real 'personality' because he copies the personalities around him. He has no true personality, boundaries, opinions or ideas. He copies it from the people around him to fit in, it has come to a point that he doesn't remembers who he is.

'Is he even human?'

A person who has multiple personalities for the sake of fitting in with the other beings, often failing or going too far which makes them look inhumane. Like there's no soul under that skin... It often comes up as unsettling. Normally, the ability to think for themselves is the trait that separates humans from other beings. An person without a personality spends excessive hours thinking who are they which can be very distressing for the person. Suppose you're having a conversation but you are thinking about your performance rather than the conversation itself. "Is this impressive, I should share their views on this topic, I should do this more which they do." Who is a human without a personality? Such human doesn't exists. Every person has even a scrap of personality, they're just good at hiding it. Bobby Fulbright has a personality, but he faked it so good to a point that he doesn't even remember who he is anymore. But it exists, in the debts of his soul, there's still scraps of personality there that experiences fear.

People with no personality often have one of the same two problems:

1. Lack of Self-Worth

2. You are not going anywhere in life

Lack of Self-Worth

Believing the fact that you're undeserving of love, respect or anything of that matter. Always bringing yourself down without seeing the positive part about your abilities or thinking others are judging you negatively. This often causes a person to hide behind a fake persona to avoid getting judged, bullied or feeling left out.

Bobby Fulbright's case is this. Having the pressure of doing what you do the best, destroying. Which comes to a point where you see it as a 'daily chore' to complete. Having no other hobbies or anything that makes you special, always doing the same things in a day without a change such as; playing games, watching YouTube, eating food, sleeping makes you feel like you're getting nowhere in live.

Bobby Fulbright everyday fakes his personality and emotions in order to seem more human. His everyday chore is hiding his identity and destroying. He has no hobbies, friends or interests. He's only alive to destroy. He's getting nowhere in life.

Emotional Numbness,

Feeling nothing is often called emotional numbness. It can happen when your brain shuts down feelings to protect you from trauma.

There are three main conditions that describe this lack of emotion,

1. Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder

This is a condition where you feel disconnected from your own body and the world around you.

Depersonalization: You feel like a robot. You might feel like you are watching yourself from outside your body.

Derealization: The world feels fake like a dream.

2. Anhedonia

This is the inability to feel pleasure. It means the things that used to make you happy now make you feel nothing. It is a major sign of depression.

3. Alexithymia

This is often called "emotional blindness" which means you have a hard time knowing what your feelings are or naming them. You might feel numb and rely only on logic. This one is a trait, not an disorder.

Viewing Bobby Fulbright's psychology I would say it is Depersonalization and Alexithymia.

Why depersonalization?

Bobby Fulbright is portrayed as a person with 'no personality' who hides under masks, he talks about himself like he's a robot or a ghost without any emotion. He doesn't knows who he is, the only fact he knows is he lacks on basic human emotions.

Why Alexithymia?

When we analyze his emotions as Athena Cykes we see that his emotions don't match with his sentences and we can see in his testimony that his words do not match with his body language. He says he's happy while crying, he says he's scared while laughing, he says he's surprised while looking scared. He cannot name his emotions correctly, they often don't match with his words. He prefers to focus on facts and outside events rather than inner thoughts. He keeps demanding evidence over 'emotions' and says emotions have no place in a courtroom. He also has very limited emotional vocabulary, he often uses the main emotional terms such as happy, sad, scared, surprised and angry. You never see him using more complex words like ecstatic, thrilled, livid, furious, terrified, devastated, distraught... The reason behind this is because he cannot name these emotions nor does he understand what they mean.

Memories of past life

Bobb Fulbright doesn't has any memories to his past life. When we asked about his family he couldn't even recall which family members he had. He used such words as "maybe?" While talking about them which leads to us thinking he can't recall them. He has large blocks of missing time, this situation is called 'repressed memories'. The lack of memories is because of the emotional numbness he's going through. When brain experiences severe stress, it uses dissociation to protect itself. It blocks out overwhelming events by storing them differently than normal memories. I am assuming it's also because of deeply rooted trauma since everything -emotional numbness, lack of personality, not getting anywhere in life, depersonalization, alexithymia, memory gap- I have gone through has something to do with trauma at some point but we cannot point what exactly it is.

Oh. Right.
