Damn, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but right now is such a bad time to buy or build a PC. I'm not really in the market for a new PC, but I was speccing out something comparable to a steam machine just out of curiosity, and its hard to beat their price by a significant margin.

It seems the meta is to buy a Dell Precision workstation from an ewaste recycler with a 7th or 8th gen i5 or i7 and upgrade it with a graphics card and memory, only then was I reliably able to sneak under $600. Facebook Marketplace might have some deals, but its a cesspool.

Or shop for parts/not working and hope it's something fixable (honestly it usually is, with CPUs its usually bent pins, maybe dont do that with MoBos, and definitely dont do that with PSUs)

nvm I'm not doing lfs today, all of my computing devices hate me and the vibes are off. I've spent 4 hours now just trying to get a linux mint system set up for it and it's just not working

Ive been trying to do lfs on my desktop for so long now that I've barely gotten any use out of it and if lfs isn't working, then it's probably best to try something else

So maybe tomorrow I'll try NixOS. I've never used an immutable distro, and NixOS looks pretty cool. The Nix package manager is such and interesting idea, and the way it reorganizes programs and system configuration is such a good idea and I love it so much, so I want to see how it actually is to use and understand more about how it works

Soooo yeah tldr: no lfs because nothing is working. NixOS because its interesting.
