I feel like pirating media that isn’t sold or offered anywhere legally anymore shouldn’t be called piracy. Girl thats archaeology
strikers things of various qualities
people will go onnn about how a man’s flaws makes him so nuanced and interesting and then act genuinely confused when u feel the same way about a woman…
this will forever be my all time favourite review of florence's music

This week on iwatodai moonlight, there's no chapter since I'm recovering from appendicitis lmao
They should make a content label for ai posts like they do for mature content so I dont ever have to fucking look at it
okay nah but this is what I've been saying. everyone arguing over how to regulate AI and what it means for copyright and how do we account for AI without hurting creative industries and and and
Require it to be labeled. that's it. require every instance of AI output to be clearly and obviously labeled that it is AI. Every decision made with AI has to be disclosed in plain phrasing, every email, every paper, every image and video must be clearly and obviously watermarked. Make removing the label/identifier a procecutable offence.
Now everyone who doesn't want it can avoid it. Now everyone using it with intent as a bad actor has to jump through extra hoops (and is on the hook for additional charges when caught). Now every single person who has had their insurance claim or credit application or resume rejected or denied because of AI can point to it and demand a reconsideration. Make. Every. Single. Instance. Of AI use mandated to be legally disclosed. That's it!
the thing about representation (I'm thinking about ace identities but it applies broadly) is that. okay. a lot of what people talk about these days is wish fulfillment: the character who can simply exist without their identity causing them any hardships. sometimes this is because they live in a setting without the relevant axis of oppression, sometimes it's because of lucky circumstances, sometimes it's just an authorial choice. this feels the safest, in a lot of ways. it's comforting and can be very fulfilling: what if this character was like me, but they didn't get hurt for it?
but wish fulfillment is not catharsis. when you are someone whose identity *has* caused them pain, there is a value to escapism but there is also a value to reflection, to stories that show characters who have been hurt learning to be happy despite that. (and, yes, there's even value in stories where people don't get to be happy; they just don't tend to be something that I can personally read)
for me, a story that grapples with the complex realities of being marginalized but achieves catharsis can be a lot more powerful than a story where those realities don't exist. the problem is that the range of human experience is vast, and so a story that will be blisteringly cathartic for one reader could just be triggering to another. the solution isn't to say that only wish fulfillment narratives are allowed, it's to acknowledge that many different people will need many different stories.

Passing the curse/torch to the protags in Fortune's Weave.
Saw a post joking about the Awakening trio showing up in the new game by accidentally ending up in the wrong timeline.
the thing about misogyny is that nothing makes apparent how prevalent it is faster than just pointing out misogyny, which will have people scuttering out of the damn sewers like ninja turtles to accuse you of being an overly sensitive shit-stirring know-nothing who's making up things to be offended about. which is actually also pretty misogynistic, but if you point it out people will come scuttering out of the damn sewers—
this week on iwatodai moonlight, shadows run amok, and futaba has an emotional reunion.

the idea that kink is somehow safe from critique and prejudice or harm is so fucking funny. ah yes bodies, desire, and power, three things that have famously never been utilized in harmful ways. great news everyone yes we are all existing in complex systems of oppression and violence BUT!!!!!! it’s on pause when we are horny

buddy where the hell do you think you are
The main problem I have with Persona 4 is that it's cowardly. It goes out of its way to present these ideas about young people struggling with ideas about identity, sexuality, gender, etc., with the dawning realization that embracing these ideas may subject them to a life lived in the margins of society. And at first, there's a moment where it seems like that life lived as your true self is preferable, even if it does marginalize you in the end. But it ALWAYS backtracks. Kanji and Naoto are the most relevant for this example, but all the social link characters are like that. They all have justifiable reasons for feeling ostracized from society, resentful if its expectations, but every last one of these characters' stories ends up with them deciding that they were wrong and/or mistaken, that society's expectations are reasonable, if not aspirational, and confirming to them is good actually. That your parents know what's best for you, so you should take up the family business instead of moving away to live your own life and see what lies beyond your small town. That you're not queer or gender non-conforming, you're just confused, or trying to be something you aren't to be accepted taken seriously by your peers(??????). That lashing out to a world actively hostile to who you really are is wrong, because that's *not* who you really are. Your TRUE self wants to be an amenable, agreeable, upstanding member of society.
i'm back with a highly important thing
