I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.

“Now the reason I use Gay Guerrilla — G U E R R I L L A, that one — is because these names — let me put a little subsystem here — these names: either I glorify them or they glorify me. And in the case of guerrilla: that glorifies gay — that is to say, there aren’t many gay guerrillas. I don’t feel that ‘gaydom’ has — does have — that strength, so therefore, I use that word in the hopes that they will. a friend joined me last night in my yearly tradition of watching this really touching documentary about the June 1, 1981, assassinations of Silme Domingo and Gene Viernes- who were Seattle local Filipino-American labor reformers and anti-dictatorship activists. It wasn't until a decade after their deaths that Ferdinand Marcos was found guilty of orchestrating their assassinations, alongside Tony Baruso, the at-the-time president of their union (Local 37 ILWU)
this isn't local history I ever learned in any grade of school or even any of my college classes, but I think it's some of the most important local history I have learned and I keep wanting to share it with people

I'm nearing the end of this. I am like, maybe a chapter or two before the time-skip to the future post-camp (can you ever really leave Camp Resolution...)
I'm still unsure how I feel about the reveal that It Was All Aliens. the alien is cool to be fair! I can see all of the metaphorical horror it presents, of being robbed of your identity, of your bodily and internal autonomy, of being objectified so completely- your life stolen from you and reshaped to better serve a white supremacist cishetero-patriarchal capitalist system, your body perfectly defined and controlled to best produce labor (profit-producing labor, reproductive labor) without challenging the system in any way.
but also, then, the Cuckoo children are ultimately tearing apart the system themselves because they are an extension of a being who needs feed endlessly in order to survive and evolve. which, is like white supremacy and patriarchy and capitalism. they all need to devour endlessly to exist.
but idk... the horror feels different when the end point isn't "and you're dead now, and your life is wholly subsumed by this perfect construct of everything you tried so, so, so hard to escape being trapped within." it's not "you've been replaced by the child your parents violently tried to beat and rape you into being, and all of the love you ever wish they showed you is heaped onto this Thing." the end point is "and then your abusive family gets eviscerated and eaten by this thing wearing your face while you're dead". it almost feels more like the system of surveillance and control leads to its own destruction. which i guess could also be a thing to explore but doesn't feel like it fits everything else this novel has been doing.
also the evil and cruelty of the counselors and Pastor Eddie feels different when it's made clear they're not even human. I know there's moments that imply some of the counselors are still human themselves- they are human, and they are still working to keep the system of the Camp and the grinder feeding children into this alien alive, and that is horrifying. But they don't exactly have the focus. And then everything with Mrs. Glover doing all of this to save resurrect her dead daughter. hmmmm idk I have thoughts.
