Trans:plant - really interesting mixed media exhibition by @yani.b.art 🌱🌱🌱 Last day today at Archive Gallery, Rose Lipman Building. Using Aloe Vera as a medium, it approaches the subject of gender neutrality. The artist created a gender-neutral family of 350 plants over the space of 4 years, starting with the parent plant and subsequent 9 children. 🌱 "We are identified by our names. When a new human being is born, it is given a name, most commonly suggestive of its binary gender identity. This is the first step in an individual's conditioning, forcefully aligning their essence with either a male or female stereotypes. Consumed by titles, we waste a tremendous amount of energy creating barriers and systems of separation. But what if we were to ourselves free by breaking through these systems of separation, starting from language itself? What impact would that have on our lives? How much of our potential would be released?
