His story has some crazy parallels to mizuki's which is wild cuz he existed before I got into pjsk. Tangent picking apart these similarities under the cut
the lyrics of bake no hana rly fit fish because he's trying to hide the fact that he's an abnormality. a pretty facade to hide that he has blood on his hands because y'know, cannibalistic mutant lanternfish monster. he's terrified of being found out, and feels like everyone already knows and is peeling him apart with their judgemental gazes. so both mizuki and fish feel like they're "abominations" because of their "deep dark ugly secret" and everyone would turn on them and condemn them if their respective secrets was outed. yet carrying this secret instills a constant fear in them that if someone looks to closely, they'll be found out and flayed alive by the prying eyes of society. Hence the eye imagery in the 2dmv. Shoutout the eye imagery in the bake no hana 2dmv it's so sick I love the eye flower things.
Both mizuki and fish have the same sort of coping mechanism: running the f away and avoiding the problem/their friends. Mizuki runs when she's outed to ena. Fish goes missing (when he just manifested as an abnormality and ran to hide in the sewer system). Mizuki runs because she wants to protect herself from inevitable rejection and change in how her friends treat her. Fish runs because he wants to protect his friends/humanity from the "monster" that he is (and maybe he's afraid of his friends reactions too.) They both feel like it's selfish but necessary to cut themselves off and isolate to "make this hurt less" for their friends, and if they still end up seeing the betrayal and disgust on their friends' faces they believe "it's what I deserve".
They also are both harassed for dressing femininely because fish is a boy and to transphobes/some oblivious people mizuki is too so there's that similarity between them.
And like. On the outside they seem SO different like. Boisterous extrovert who seems very loud and proud and mischievous vs quiet shy introvert who tries to take up as little space as possible and make things as convenient as possible for everyone else. But they have so many unintentional narrative parallels it's wild. That said, there are HUGE DIFFERENCES REGARDING THEIR ACTUAL TRAUMA/SITUATIONS AND IM NOT COMPARING THAT SO DONT FLAME ME PLZ but like, how they handle their trauma/react and how they view themselves are sorta similar
In terms of the art, I used screenshots of the bake no hana 2dmv as reference and tried some color theory BS lol. The single aqua eye was inspired by the single pink eye among the red in the mv cuz aquas fish's representative color and itd maybe add interest and I think it works. Also the stripe thing in the middle I supposed to be like a toothy mouth I hope that came through well,,,
