christmas —— ?oh.

gray eyes turned away from gai’s brilliance ( in every sense of the word: his smile & character & very presence so bright ), shoulders lifting in the barest movement of a shrug. he didn’t want anything —— nothing that gai, or anyone else, could possibly give back to him anyway.

when he sits, a wave of relief washes over her. in his silence and his movements, these things alone bridge a reciprocation that the two have come to understand in one another. with the slightest sway, hinata tips herself over just a smidge, allowing her head to settle against kakashi’s shoulder. “ stay, ” a quiet command, in spite of the soft yearning in her voice.

flinching at the soft ( though apparent ) sound of footsteps closing in, hinata doesn’t expect any company this late. however, her features soften almost immediately upon the other; cheeks flush briefly in an embarrassed state. “ah,” she breathes quietly under her breath, hand lightly raised at her chest to see just how quickly her heart spazzes between her bones.  calm down. calm down. “ y-you’re awake. you .. couldn’t sleep either? ”

of course he couldn’t sleep.

he doesn’t deem her with a verbal response, instead simply taking a seat beside her, staring up at the cloudless sky above them, casting them in an ethereal glow that would have been beautiful had he ever paid attention to such trivial things. he sat in silence, waiting if she wanted to speak, waiting if she wanted him to leave.

she feels it; his gaze burning along her back.  “ h .. hound? .. what is it? ”

                 “---------nothing.”
