She/her, 30s, Canadian (which will explain the unnecessary 'u' in a lot of my writing for any of my American friends out there).
This blog is honestly a whatever I want whenever I want blog. I'm currently into 9-1-1 and Buddie and BuckTommy so that's what I'm posting about most rn. Sometimes I like to write, I don't get a lot of time for it between two jobs, university, and raising a 2 year old but if I can, I like to make time for it.
While 9-1-1 is my current focus, I also frequent the following fandoms and may post about them from time to time:

I just finished The Butcherβs Masquerade and I need more friends who read the Dungeon Crawler Carl books because I CANβT with that ending ππππππ
trump says zelenskyy is in the way of peace talks when russia is freezing both kyiv and kharkiv (two biggest cities of ukraine) in -15Β° for weeks by bombing all the power plants and critical infrastructure like that
not one power plant is intact in Ukraine anymore because of russian shelling
people spend days or even weeks without heating, electricity, and water
And it's so sad so many people around the world now barely react to this!
It's -15 to -25 in different regions of Ukraine. My town wasn't attacked as much as Kyiv or Kharkiv or Kramatorsk, but we only have 8 hours of electicity per day (not in a row and by best scenario). My relative's and friends' heating systems at their homes depend on the electricity! You really can't heat your house! And it's like this all over the country. People sleep with their jackets on because it's cold as fuck
And our soldiers not only are not having an opportunity to be in slightly warmer buildings, but also having to repell constant russian attacks!
If any of you do wanna help, pls spread a word. And if you can, you can help through World Central Kitchen by donating. They've been there for Ukraine since the first day of the full scale invasion providing warm meals and drinks.

Guys! I need your help. My friend told me about a novel she swears she read years ago but canβt find and now Iβm dying to know what it is. Iβm half convinced this novel doesnβt exist and she just dreamt it up so I could use some tumblr investigators to help me out.
This is her description of what she can remember:
βit was about prince charming and his sidekick who are sent to find slleeping beauty by the king (his dad) and along the way they run into other fairy-tale stories
I know they at least run into snow white the only ones I remember in detail are Cinderella who the prince ends up falling in love with but still continues on to find sleeping beauty, the evil step mother is a dominatrix and tries to seduce charming when the step sisters fail and he leaves
When they get to sleeping beauty he finds her and she's suuuuuper pregnant and when she wakes up the baby is charming's dad's, so his half sibling π β
Apparently there was a lot of comedy to it, and Sleeping Beauty married the King.
Please reblog this if you donβt recognize the novel so we can boost this.
I finished The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah right at the beginning of the New Year and to say it has continued to occupy my thoughts since is an understatement. I wonder if current events might not have influenced that, actually.
Here there be spoilers, so avoid if this is a book you plan to read.
The book takes place right at the beginning of the Nazi occupation of France. (Side note: I was lucky enough to get a WW2 refresher last year when I worked with a student in a grade 10 history class so yay me for knowing what the Maginot Line was when it was referenced π ).
The story follows two sisters in France, Isabelle and Vianne. Vianne is the older sister, and has a child, and Isabelle is 18 at the beginning of the story. Isabelle is everything I would hope to be were I faced with a fascist invasion - bold, courageous, and willing to stick it to the Nazis at every chance. My favourite scene with her happens in the beginning when Beck - a Nazi soldier who takes over a room in their house - compliments her pretty hair and Isabelle, offended that a Nazi would compliment her, grabs a pair of shears and chops if off in front of him following the compliment. Eventually, Isabelle becomes a beacon of French resistance as she leaves Vianneβs home, moved to Paris, and begins helping smuggle downed Allied pilots out of France.
That said, as much as I wanted Vianne to be more like Isabelle, I came to understand her circumstances more. She was meeker, perhaps a little too complacent in the beginning β scratch that, definitely too complacent in the beginning β but later discovered her own quiet rebellion in the form of hiding Jewish children in an orphanage. You see, Vianne couldnβt afford to be as brave and outwardly rebellious as Isabelle, not when she had her young daughter Sophie to worry about, and as a parent, I imagine itβs an impossible choice. Itβs one thing to accept risk on behalf of yourself, but to do so when it could negatively impact your child? I canβt imagine how difficult a choice that would be. Would I be able to do it in her shoes? I honestly donβt know.
One of the more interesting characters in my opinion comes in the form of Beck, the German soldier rooming with Vianne. Beck is kind, gentlemanly, and even empathetic; all while upholding a system of oppression. Of course, his kindness to Vianne and Sophie only extends so far - he provided them with just enough food to not starve to death, and kept their house warm during the winters but ONLY when he was present. The weeks heβd spend away on Nazi business or visiting his family in Germany meant that Vianne and Sophie were on their own, which meant less food, and virtually no heat. Meanwhile, in his office in France we learn he has an abundance of food available to him at any given time, but heβs sure to emphatically explain to Sophie β a starving child, mind you β that itβs important the hard working German soldiers have their fill. Shouldnβt they get to eat, Sophie? Shouldnβt they? Here, have some chocolate. No joke, he hands her chocolate to make up for the lack of food.
Despite knowing this, Vianne comes to care for Beck, believing him to be a good man. The largest piece of evidence we see of him potentially being a good man comes when he warns Vianne that her friend is on a list of foreign Jews that will be rounded up the next day. Unfortunately, Vianne is unsuccessful in hiding her friend, but she does manage to save the child. That said, I think itβs clear that Beck would not have done this if it werenβt for the fact that in living with Vianne heβd come to empathize with her, and even care for her to a limited degree. He would not have done this for anyone else and we in fact see this as he holds a whip, standing by as Jewish women and children are ushered into trains.
Which leads me to my most important thought: a Nazi is a Nazi is a Nazi.
Despite what heβs willing to do for Vianne β which, I think we can all agree is the bare minimum β Beck is not a good person. Sure, he makes comments that indicate a certain discomfort with some of the orders heβs been given, but that doesnβt stop him from following through on them β even when Vianneβs safety becomes a concern later in the novel. Heβs your typical βjust following ordersβ Nazi. He is complacent to this new regime and when the chips are down he will act in his own self-interest.
Reading this novel felt like a reminder that the image weβve created of Nazis as cartoonishly evil villains in our collective memory is an inaccurate one. Sure, they existed in the forms of Hitler, Goebbels, or Mangele, but I imagine that the majority of Nazis looked a lot like Beck. Ordinary people with families whoβd been gifted a self-serving ideology and the power to back it up.
And this is why I like the portrayal of Beck so much: heβs just an ordinary guy, and very, very human.
If we remove the humanity from Nazis and only think of them as the most monstrous among us, then we fail to recognize it when the people around us act in ways that should be concerning. We think thereβs no way our sweet old neighbour who offers us baked goods and a kind smile could support the kinds of acts that the Nazis perpetuated. When we canβt recognize the Nazi or fascist in front of us, we grow complacent, and complacency is the fertile soil upon which oppression blooms, and I think that that is exactly what weβre seeing happen today in the US.
Renee Nicole Good is not the first casualty of this movement, and she sadly is unlikely to be the last. My heart goes out to her family, and all of the American citizens currently dealing with the unthinkable. This shouldnβt be happening, and yet it is.
βThe party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right.β β George Orwell
what are your feelings on the heated rivalry actors letterboxd lolita reviews going viral
the fact that any of us are expected to have an opinion on the letterboxd reviews of a random 24-year-old from vancouver because he is currently being fake fucked in the butt on a show on crave tv and so people are creepily going through every single inch of his life with a fine-toothed comb is a good argument for destroying modern western media fandom as an irretrievably evil and rotten enterprise. i think if you have any opinion on this at all your relationship to fame and the internet is so warped that there is possibly no hope for you. please throw your phone into the nearest body of water forthwith if you wish to be saved.

"why polyamorous people aren't valid" "mspec lesbians AREN'T okay actually" "aroallos are freaks" "he/him dni. cis men dni" "this post is for non-men only" yessss and the one with long hair goes in the girl box, then the one with short hair goes in the boy box!!
maybe I'm just a boring he/him white guy but inventing about 7 trillion terms to define "man" and "woman" so you can reinforce gender essentialism isn't very "love is love" of you. maybe i just don't have a sexuality but picking and choosing what sexualities are normal and which ones are "weird and predatory" sounds like we're all a bunch of republicans on fox news. if you attend your local pride parade and look REAAALLLYYY closely, you'll notice you can't actually tell if someone's gay or not from their appearance, and there's no way to know if they're "invading queer spaces". maybe it's just me, but when i attended my local gaybar last night for the drag show, they didn't ask for my gay-card with a peer reviewed diagnosis of faggot stamped on it. they just let me in the building. i live a life of bliss and luxury in not caring about any queer discourse ever, and just going "WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY :-)" while booting up the latest cod game. and it seems much more fun than whatever the fuck you people are on about
I have more thoughts I might write down later, but I'm so struck by Shane's parents and how much the way they act in this ep gives us insight into some of Shane's own behavior and traits...
Like, dad catches them and immediately runs away. Just, hops in the car and practically floors it. I'm sure part of it is because there was potentially sex stuff involved and he's putting blinders on (he also doesn't get Ilya's hinting later about it just being sex for most of those years, this man is divorcing his thoughts from the very idea of his son and the sex topic so hard!) but that's an avoider, someone who absolutely doesn't like conflict and will wait for his wife to do it instead.
Meanwhile, mom is in planning/damage control mode. Shane doesn't freak out and shut down until she starts trying to "fix" the situation and how to manage the coming out process, she means well but talking about the brand deals was not the way to do it right then. She's missing all the personal aspects for the sponsorship trees and it's the disconnect that sends him spiraling.
The hockey attention started when Shane was a pre-teen from the sounds of it - for the majority of his life, his relationship with his mom has been tangled up in the business manager aspects, she steers so much of his career and "free time" and his entire image that he shows the world. And then that image and the big secret just shatters all at once.
Once she realizes he's actually trying to apologize to her for not being able to help who he is, she shuts it down and says the right stuff, it's a lovely scene. But man, the way she just decides she's done with showing emotion now, it's time to turn them off and get going, whoo. I felt that.
Shane is an adorable, anxious, neurotic mess and he comes by it so honestly. Their family must look like a bunch of aliens to Ilya. Can't wait to see what it looks like when he gets to join it!

Is it weird to say that Heated Rivalry is giving me a ton of Canadian Pride? Because it is, fuck yeah, Canada.
Despite being the most divisive year in recent history, this little Canadian production has managed to bring everyone together. Itβs a beautiful thing π.
