Whats the difference between female and woman?
âFemaleâ is an adjective. âWomanâ is a noun.Â
Referring to a person as âA Femaleâ or a group of people as âFemalesâ is objectifying, because it reduces them to that singular characteristic. Itâs kind of a subtle thing, esp. if youâre learning English as a second language.Â
It functions linguistically in a very similar way to other identifying adjectives such as âblackâ or âtransâ or âgay.â  Itâs totally fine to say âa black personâ or âblack peopleâ but saying âa blackâ or âsome blacksâ sounds inherently racist, because you stop describing peopleâs race and start defining them as nothing more than their race.Â
Itâs totally fine to say âa transgender personâ or âtransgender peopleâ but âa transgenderâ or âsome transgendersâ sounds inherently transphobic.Â
Same with âa gay personâ/âgay peopleâ vs âa gayâ/âsome gaysâÂ
In addition to that, âfemalesâ as a noun is also primarily used by MRAs (âMale Rights Activistsâ who are misogynist) and TERFs (âTrans Exclusionary Radical Feministsâ who are transmisogynist).Â
So basically, for many English-speaking women, using âfemaleâ as a noun is a quick way to make us very nervous about how you perceive women.Â
