Happy Birthday, Clark Gregg!!
āIām shocked that the federal government refused to take action on Republican-style mandatory minimums, which fail to deter crime and add more delays to the massive backlog in our courts,"
On Thursday, NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh, called out the Liberal governmentās failure to tackle discrimination in Canadaās criminal-justice system and reiterated his call for federal leadership to ban police checks, a practice (also known as carding) that disproportionately targets non-white Canadians.
āFrom that first contact with a police officer, all the way to the sentencing of a crime, the unfair treatment of racial minorities is evident across Canada,ā Singh said, who has himself been the target of police street checks. āNo one in Canada should be treated any differently in our justice system based on what they look like.ā
Singh also slammed the government for breaking its promises to roll-back mandatory minimum sentences implemented by the Harper Conservatives. Mandatory minimums have a disproportionate effect on groups that are over-represented in jails, such as Indigenous Peoples who are incarcerated at a rate of 5 times their population across Canada, as well as African-Nova Scotians whose incarceration rate is 7 times higher within the province.
āIām shocked that the federal government refused to take action on Republican-style mandatory minimums, which fail to deter crime and add more delays to the massive backlog in our courts,ā said Singh. āEnough talk, we need real measures to improve our justice system and work towards ending discrimination in our courts and on our streets.ā

Artist Covers Entire Walls With Incredible Large Murals of Cities Around the World
Paris-based artist Thomas Dartigues (aka Decktwo) illustrates different cityscapes around the world in his incredible, large-scale mural art. A former street artist, Dartigues ditched the spray can in favor of black markers for his minimalist line drawings. Sketched across large sheets of paper and walls, each sprawling cityscape drawing features some of the worldās most famous landmarks, rendered in incredible detail.

Want to know why Millennials and Gen Z arenāt going to be buying very many homes in the future. This is why.
This is not the same economy and housing market that our parents or grandparents grew up in. You canāt just simply work for a few years to buy a home. Not in 2018.

natgeoĀ Photo by @cristinamittermeier // Can you guess what is wrong with this penguin? We spent a month in Antarctica on assignment for @natgeo and it was not until the second week that I realized we had not seen snow once. Every day, however, we experienced several hours of incessant rain. As temperatures warm in Antarctica, the weather regime is changing from snow to rain. In the past, the penguin colony would be covered in snow but now, it is a large, muddy mess. Baby penguins are covered in fluffy down and they can easily preen themselves when it snows. When they get muddy and wet, their down loses its insulation ability and as temperatures drop at night, they become hypothermic and die. As the debate on weather or not to protect the Antarctic Peninsula starts to play out, I hope that the members of the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), who will be voting on this issue are inspired to protect it for all humanity. #Followme at @cristinamittermeier and follow the conversation at @Sea_legacy

A surprising reason for resistance to environmental goods and habits
Sexism is literally killing the planet. This article says,āMake the man feel manly, and heās more likely to go green,ā but perhaps men just need to adopt better values?
Really interesting article. In the interim until we can demolish patriarchy we need to market climate change in a way that our brothers can buy into it without getting bullied. Move over cute tree frogs make way for some howling wolves. Seriously any visual that works at this stage is ok by me.
Not going to check this for accuracyā¦
