You won’t be disappointed in this one.

As for John Carradine? He’s there, lurking in the shadows as the Loyalist threat Caldwell. His first appearance on screen provides immediate characterization. You know exactly the kind of subtle menace this man poses as a threat to the people in Mohawk Valley.

Rewatch Factor: It’s a John Ford movie. So, in short, yes. It’s based on a novel, the characterization is solid, it’s filmed in color, and the story is moving.

YES. High rewatch factor, even if you were forced to watch it in your social studies class.

The Carradine Factor: That quiet looming presence as the villain? It’s a different flavor than that rabid menace he had in The Prisoner of Shark Island. He’s refined and genteel, yet deadly, as he commands a group of Seneca raiders to attack the settlers.
