“I’m not too sure if you can handle what I’m drinking. After all, not many people can keep up with me. I’d hate for the night to end with you passed out on the floor.”

“Not sure either but we’ll find out won’t we? Better on the floor than elsewhere- you know better than the park, in a river, different planet, that sort of thing.”

Probably not, actually, considering most of the time I need someone’s help to open a jar. But let’s pretend I totally could. 

I’m all for it, especially if we get into some sort of tussle, I’m sending you in first, guns blazing and all.

“I…I would but it’s a bit much and a bit rude to work my way through the crowd. Though, I suppose it’ll only get worse. I planned to head on out after a breath of fresh air but I lost track of time. I’ve never stayed the whole time, I think this might be the longest I’ve stayed, though; does it count if I’ve been out here the whole time? They were good years, a good time–I mean, I like it here–the last two events like this were….something. An experience? Yeah, that’s a way to say it at least—why come here? I mean, you could have gone anywhere; a program here catch your eye?”

“I think you might be over analysing the situation mate, putting too much thought into it. Had a few other places on my list, yeah but I’ve always wanted to see New York City and I hope to travel through South America before heading back the the UK, it’s a little bucket list number of mine.”

“They certainly wouldn’t be my top ten, but I’m sure that they must be some teenage girl’s? I suppose that if you have it, you must flaunt it? Though I’m not technically the flaunting type, I do understand the thought process of some males. You mean to tell me that I’ve missed a guy getting a drink thrown in his face? Perhaps there’s a video floating around out there for me to see. Would lust happen to be your default setting too, or are you more than that? Ah, Foster Kinney, it is most definitely a pleasure to be meeting you.”

“Something like that anyway, who’s to say I wouldn’t be the same if I was in Armani tonight, I like to think I wouldn’t be such a twat but I simply can’t be sure. We all like to think we’re a little more sophisticated than the average bear though, don’t we? I wouldn’t say it was my default setting, I’ve succumb to boyish spells of absolute douchebaggery, I’ve been known to be a bit of a dick head but yeah, I like to think I’m slightly more evolved. They probably think the same thing though so I’ll let you be the judge.”

“That is rather unfortunate, especially given that you are intellectual and funny.  Hard to find in guys nowadays–especially when guys are more so focused on their bodies than the difference between love and lust; have we met before? If not, I’m Annaliese Carter.”

“I think we’ve got the pick of the litter when it comes to bona fide wankers here this evening, I’ve already heard somebody bragging about how much their suit cost and another had a drink thrown in his face. Brilliant, that was. I think lust is their default setting and love is something they thought they saw in a movie with Vin Diesel once. Annaliese, I’m Foster Kinney and it is truly a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

“I’m definitely feeling a slight buzz by this point, to tell you the truth. I suppose I can thank the handful of shots I took before leaving my place. And I’ve lost track of how much I’ve drank since I’ve been here… But I could definitely use another cup. Come get a drink with me.”

“Brilliant. I should have done the same, got a bottle of Grey Goose sitting on my shelf all lonesome. It would be my pleasure, I’ll drink whatever you’re drinking because you seem to be having a fantastic time.”

“Why not just go home? I mean if you’re having a shit time, nobody’s going to hold it against you- are they? I’m not having a bad time but I don’t think I’ll stay all night either. Doesn’t bother me, I don’t think anyone will mind if I slip out early. What were the last two years like? I just moved here, you see. Still getting a feel for the place.”

“The party’s inside, the smoking section is two balconies over and no, I’m not dealing.” he rattles off once he hears the door open out of reflex by such a point more so than clear conversation’s sake “Unless there’s something else you think I can do for you–?”

“Something like that, yeah. I think I’m just used to pretty girls not finding me even remotely funny, it’s like a- what do you call it- a reflex.”

“Which version? Redford or DiCaprio? Well, I would be honored to take it when you’re all through with it, though I don’t actually know how to tie one. If it makes you feel any better, hairpins and heels also suck.”

“It does make me feel better, much better but mostly because I’m picturing myself trying to walk in heels and do with pins in my hair now- I’d look astronomically stupid and it would be hilarious.”

“Right, yes, I can see that. In fact you look a little...dare I say, displeased?”
