The writers are doing a wonderful job of exposing the human condition, putting it (in this case in the form of Laura) in a context where all human things, like feelings a being 19 and in love, seem absurd in the face of grand evil. But it's still there. We are watching the characters in "real time" and answering the question: how do we deal with this? Often we don't realise how we become accountable or why we are accountable for things until after they've happened. Long after. Especially in love - we spend years thinking about how things as small as household chores could break down a commitment of ever lasting love. We can't know what we don't know, until after we have realised, oh, it was this thing I didn't know. And that was apart of it. I believe this is a gift to us as people who happened to have watched a web series about a vampire. We shouldn't judge these characters but rather seek to understand them and all the information we are given by the writers and team. It's a truly unique experience to see depth of character and it shows courage and ambition to do that most especially with a main character. In the same way we may come to know a program that does not need to have discussions about sexuality or offer explanations for why gender pronouns are important and must exist, for, they just exist - we can come to know a program that makes a main character's decision and words reveal something unlikeable. They're not unloveable, but, we can all be unlikeable and maybe we see that, then maybe we change that. People that realise a need for change, then strive to make that change: that's loveable, and that weights so much more greatly that a trait that's dislikeable. I'm impressed by the arc this show has taken. It's courageous, and I want a happy ending, but I'm intrigued by the characters personal journey to get there, as I know happy endings have a emotional and personal growth based price tag.
