"I'm interested in what services you have to offer."
A tall man in a black coat is outside her wagon, appraising it with a smile of some sort while clasping his gloved hands behind his back.
"A fortune teller? Did I hear that right?"
He finally looks in her direction, setting himself into action and holding his left hand out for a shake.
"I'm a friend of that funny man you read for a few days ago. Red hair, big smile, you know the one."
Sibyl looked down from where she sat in the driver's box of her wagonβ though not far down as the man standing beside her was quite tall. She regarded him with a blank expression as she attempted to get a read on him. He was smiling at her, but there was something about him that unsettled her.
"I am indeed a fortune teller," she answered, reluctantly turning to face him fully. "I remember him. Did he... send you to me?"
It wasn't uncommon for a patron to refer a friend to her. However, Sibyl got the feeling that this man was no friend of Alder's. She would keep that to herself for now. Just in case her suspicion was ill-placed.
"Have you come to see what insight I might have? Or have you come for something else?"

the harsh skepticism that dulls faba's initial thrill for receiving such an analysis continues to crease his brow as he allows for several quiet moments to creep by when she responds with a seemingly new-found sense of respect, describing her reading from an entirely new β much more realistic β angle. that is more like it!
he sniffs, peering down at the spread once more. sibyl's quick turnaround, especially when paired with her dramatization, might be considered foolish, if it were not true β many people could stand to learn from him. why stop at just one student when he has surely earned the ear of at least one hundred? the stars of course, having perished ages ago, would not know anything about that. still, it could serve as a decent enough start, he supposes.
his gaze snaps onto her outstretched hand, regarding it carefully. it seemed she had no intention of letting faba run her out of town under the pretense of fraud, though she planned to leave soon enough. to accept would only make things more interesting between them, as he knew without a shadow of a doubt that he would be keeping a vigilant eye on the stand either way.
worst case? she gets the satisfaction of being right, and he is stuck with some nosey ward, as he would choose to see it. best case? he gets paid, as well as the most delectable I told you so! that he's been treated to in years. how could he resist?
"very well," he finally relents with a chuckle, dropping the weight of the chair back upon the pavement as he leans forward with his own hand reaching out to take hers weakly in begrudging agreement, "seeing as you are so confident, I find myself inclined to accept... however, I do hope that you are prepared to face your truth should the luck that has seen you through thus far abandon you during this venture."
As she shook Faba's hand Sibyl smirked, though it was obscured by her mask. His reaction was predictable. These haughty types would hop on any opportunity to boost their own egos. She was more than happy to humble him. It was just a shame it would have to wait.
Though perhaps there was one way for her to get some instant gratification from this meeting.
"Yes, I am sure all of my accomplishments have simply been nothing more than one long lucky streak," said Sibyl as she leaned back casually in her chair. Crossing her legs, Sibyl folded her hands neatly in her lap before locking eyes with Faba. She stared him down as the cards on the table began to move on their own.
One by one, each card rose up off the table and slipped itself neatly into the deck sitting in front of Sibyl. Then the deck shuffled itself for the next client to come.
Then Sibyl chuckled and added, "I am a charlatan and a fake psychic after all."
"Five thousand, alright." He nabbed a 5-note, and two more 1-notes to go with it before folding them all together and putting them on Sibyl's side of the table. The rest of the bills are promptly folded up again and stuffed back into his pocket just in time for him to clue-in to the sound of another friend approaching.
He hardly has the time to register just what it is he's looking at before 'Cheese' is hopping up into his lap, and by that point he'd accepted it completely. His grin's as wide as can be, sufficiently distracted by the friendly PokΓ©mon enough so that he greets the little guy, thanks him for coming to see him, and then lays his hand down with his palm facing the Chingling in case it wanted some affection.
Remembering why he was here in the first place, Alder returned his attention to the lady across from him,
"Oh, it's no problem. I don't mind at all. Maybe he'll bring me good luck, eh?"
When offered affection, Chingling happily nuzzled into Alder's palm with a cheerful chirp. Sibyl watched her Pokemon with a smile on her faceβ though it was obscured behind her mask. Alder was a kind man. That much was apparent from how gentle he was with Cheese.
Her attention turned to her cards as she began to shuffle the deck. Once thoroughly shuffled, Sibyl selected a card from the top, middle and bottom of the deck before laying them out between herself and Alder. Then she waved her hand over the cards, the cards seemingly flipping themselves over with the motion.
Sibyl looked over the cards, stroking her chin as she considered their meanings. Her smile slowly faltered when she realized what the cards were telling her.
"The Lovers and Justice. Both in reverse," she started, motioning to the first and middle card.
"Together these cards paint the picture of a tragedy," she went on. "You have lost a partnerβ a Pokemon that was dear to you. That is what the Lover's tell me. As for Justice, you blamed yourself for the loss and let the grief weigh on you."
Then she motioned to the last card.
"The Moon represents many things. From illusions and trickery to confusion and secrets. However, here it tells me that you have or that you will confront the part of yourself that clung to the grief that steered you away from your path."
Sibyl smiled again. "You have a warm spirit. I believe you will use what you have learned to help guide others along their own journeys."

Sitting in the driver's box of her wagon with a sleeping Chingling seated comfortably in her lap, Sibyl watched the road ahead as her Tauros pulled them onward. The old wooden cart swayed and creaked with every bump and dip in the uneven dirt road. The trip was long and she was looking forward to settling down for the evening.
"Just a few more miles," she told herself with a yawn. Just a few more miles and they would be in a new town. A new town meant new clients. New clients meant more money. More money meantβ
Sibyl's thoughts were halted by an odd sight ahead; there was a man lying on the road ahead. Pulling back on the reins, Sibyl commanded her Tauros to stop. When the cart came to a stop, she set hopped down from the driver's box with her Chingling in hand and approached the man on the road.
"Sir, are you okay?"

// I am hoping to have those starters out today. I'm sorry.
What does your soul look like?
A shadowed figure within a void. You are the flickering shape in the darkness. The echo of something lost. Are you even there at all, really? Does anyone see what you are beyond the darkness that surrounds you? You were the first to lose yourself. You stumbled in the dark, and in trying to find who you are, you picked up all the wrong pieces of broken things. Can you still say that you are you, if you have torn yourself apart and stitched yourself together with every monstrous replacement you could find? What is it that you think will make you whole again? Do you think that your teeth and claws can protect you? There is no monster trying to harm you. There is only you, and nothing can protect you from yourself if you insist upon your own self-destruction. You are the villain of your own story. There is no one you have harmed more than yourself.
// I want Sibyl to be cool but also a little pathetic and a little funny.
Sibyl thumbed through her wallet as she counted the cash she had available under her breath. She had just enough for some supplies. Food and fresh water for a trip to the next town over. That meant new clients and more cash. And so the wheel turned ever forward.
However, the psychic's thoughts of the immediate future were cut short when she bumped into someone on the street. Nearly dropping her wallet, Sibyl snatched the worn leather billfold out of the air, clutching it like it was her last lifeline. Then she looked at the person she had so carelessly bumped into.
"I am sorry," she said, quickly bowing her head. "I should watch where I am going."
