Buck from The OA is my favorite current example of trans representation in media not just because the creators cast an actual trans actor, but because his trans identity is addressed but not made into an exploitative narrative. He is deadnamed by his family but the five always correct people about his pronouns without extensive discussion, and his desire to be called Buck is paralleled by OA’s and BBA’s desire to be called their preferred names as well, even though they have gone through transformations that aren’t linked to gender identity. His trans experience is thematically important but isn’t boiled down to voyeuristic LGBT angst, and I think that is amazing.

I love my fellow PLL theorists but I have to say some of us are getting a little out of control. A lot of people are saying Aria is big A (very possible) and that the fact she says “do you wanna give up and go shopping” is a reason why she is big A. But I mean COME ON guys. Re watch that scene! She is so obviously joking and saying it because Emily is discouraged and isn’t sure what to do. She literally smiles right after. She’s joking guys, don’t confuse yourselves with things like this.
