I love and appreciate Melissa so much. It's been interesting to watch the evolution of her excitement levels around this spinoff. Last year, at SDCC, she was SO excited. And those interviews they did at SDCC, that AMC released as little clips with fan questions...she was so excited and happy. Tribeca was beautiful. The little Spain video she did with Norman, she was so happy. Seeing her in more recent interviews, it's like her mood has shifted a little bit. I think she's proud of what she's put out, that she got to do what she wanted to Carol's story, wrapping things up for Carol, but I see a lot less excitement, more comments about not knowing who Daryl is now, why he didn't come back, "cockblocking", etc. In interviews, she really focuses on Carol's story and the input she had in Carol's story specifically. There's also a lot that's said without words.
I won't pretend to know Melissa or how she's feeling but I just really hope she has a say in Carol's ending (and that it's a happy one). I've read that she signed on for 2 seasons (2 and 3) but hasn't yet signed on for S4 or beyond. If she's done after S3, I hope they wrap up her story in a satisfying way. There's lots of people in Spain...a whole new community, a whole new country...maybe this will be home now? She hasn't ever really seemed happy in the U.S. and she said that the CW didn't feel like home. So why would she want to go back? What would be different? Daryl is obviously not her happy ending and Norman seems more than happy to continue on indefinitely so maybe Daryl can continue alone on his adventure home and Carol can stay behind.
Because otherwise, if Daryl Dixon goes into S4 without Melissa, then that means she stayed behind or died...and I'm not a fan of that last option haha.
