Bobby Seale and Huey P Newton. Black Panther Party
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
If 2003 me opened up an average news site if today and saw the number of pop up ads on it I would assume the computer had been infected with 500 viruses and yet now I just calmly whack-a-mole them and go about my little capitalist hellscape day because what else can I do

TUESDAY AGAIN NO PROBLEM
congratulations to me and my funny dog that i drew 8 years ago for getting a million notes
there's this anti zionist jewish creator on tik tok and their videos have been blowing up, with the abrupt increase in followers (mostly muslims and arabs it seems from the comments) over the last few days they posted a video reminding people that they're trans and the entire comment section is palestinians, muslims, arabs saying that they don't care about them being trans they're just grateful to get some coverage on this that isn't everything shy of "palestinians need to be genocided"
the first rule of detective fiction is that the detective in question should ALWAYS just be the nosiest person alive and never be a cop

âHe is the sun, and you canât help but soar towards him A soft thrum beneath your ribs turns menacingly loud You can feel your heart beating furiously in your chest. Trying to escape through the jail of bones and flesh to be free and no longer hurt. To find a new owner thatâs not so broken. It feels like youâre about to implode and thereâs a sinking feeling in your chest so deep that you want to claw it out. He is light, and before him you only knew darkness The unattainable has always been the most captivating We all know how the tale ends, and when your wings are singed and youâre spiraling towards an inevitable end His voice rings through your ears and your eyes flash open You donât feel fear, or anguish But a contented melancholy, that your undoing Was by the one who showed you how to loveâ

âIt still fascinates me how people leave, how we expect it, how quickly we clean the houses empty and hide ghosts under our fingernails. How names become names but without the burning. How the poems donât hurt anymore. What I am saying is the songs that remind me of you probably remind you of someone else. What I am saying is we have prepared for this our whole lives. What I am saying is we are too good at stuffing suitcases with memories and drowning the people that we used to be. What I am saying is Iâm sorry. What I am saying is that in the dark, ephemeral looks a lot like eternal. What I am saying is your legs must hurt from walking in and out of peopleâs houses / of peopleâs lives / of peopleâs hearts. Your feet must be sore. What I am saying is I am sorry. What I am saying is I am still home if you want me to be. Iâm sorry.â

âsomewhere there is a women in China holding a black umbrella so she wonât taste the salt of the rain when the sky begins to weep, there is a 17 year old girl who smells like pomegranates and has summer air tight on her naked skin, wrapping around her scars like veins in a bloody garden, who wonât make it past tomorrow, there is a young man, who buys yellow flowers for the woman in apartment 84B, who learned braille when he realized she couldnât read his poetry about her white neck and mint eyes there are people watching films, making love for the first time, opening mail with the heading of âi miss youâ, cooking noodles with organic spices and red sauces, buying lemon detergent, ignoring âdo not smokeâ signs, painting murals of his lips in abandoned warehouses, chewing the words âi love youâ over and over again, swallowing phone numbers and forgotten birthdays, eating strawberry pies, drinking white wine off of each others open mouths, ignoring the telephone, reading this poem somewhere someone is thinking iâm alone somewhere someone finally understands they never really wereâ
