It had been long so long since Kenna saw any part of her home.. since Kenna had seen her family, seen that flash of red hair that she used to. She had gotten darker hair unlike her dear little sister. She clung to that image for years not wanting to forgot what it felt like to hug her, to run a brush through that hair. In truth, Kenna deeply savoured the feeling of touch from her loved ones but who knew what they thought. She had been for so long. Did they even want her anymore or think her still alive? She had been told so many things from her captors, those few who were against her families reign. Over the years there had been may escape attempts, each time resulted in not only punishment but they’d move. It only resulted in pain and growing more and more disoriented of her surroundings. They had to find her though to it? They would.. they loved her and she loved them. What if they came across her somehow and didn’t recognize her. It was a possibility her captors didn’t address her by her name and she felt foolish for a second thinking at first they might, or that they would show her some sign of gentleness. To them, it seemed she was just an object to get revenge on her family. Most of the time she was locked away in some sort of room, it was of course always locked and food wasn’t always a luxary. One thing she could always hold onto that even they couldn’t take away was her hope. Some nights. She could hear birds outside. She could hear the wind and it reminded her, her freedom was still so close and her family was out there. She couldn’t believe it, in fact at first she thought it might be fatigue and hunger playing a trick on her. The door. It wasn’t fully closed. It took what felt like hours or maybe minutes within isolation keeping track of time was rather difficult. Still, the rest of that night was a blur, with a simple nudge of her hand the door was open and she breathed the cool night air for the first time in a long time and nearly burst out crying and laughing at her newfound freedom.
