when words fail

To be known is to be loved they say. But when you're inside, all you want is to be outside. When you are outside you want only to be in. If to be known is to be loved, to be unknown is to be coveted.

I grew up on the words of street poets. Your silver tongue shines no brighter than the nickel tongues I know and love. You cannot speak more beautifully than a man drawing his last unknown breath from the wayside. Beauty and blood are brothers, you cannot know one without the other.

I am thankful most of my life's tears have been shed in grief. To cry in grief is to mourn the loss of love. To have loved and lost and loved again-- what joy.

You want to be all things to all people but you aren't and you can't and you don't have to be.
