Meeting-

> James is a year or so ahead of Evan, and I think they first interacted when Evan was a first year and James a second. Evan is odd, he's so peculiar. I think he had an animal corpse or something with him and James was making fun of him but Evan actually thought he was interested. Regulus told him later that James was being a jerk. So that's their first interaction.

> a couple of years later, I don't exactly have the thoughts on when, Evan is so isolated and lonely. His involvement in thr cult his family is in is slowly increasing, his shame is rampant within him. Barty isn't entirely a factor in his life yet, though we're getting there. Regulus has his own stuff going on- Evan is just sort of miserable and on his own.

> he's sitting one night, on the quidditch pitch, just sort of tired and sick of it all. James comes out for late night practice.

> james is sort of thrown off by this boy. I mean, they haven't interacted since that first year. James had heard rumors about the boy's odd habits or strange behaviors. But he had never really been involved enough to care.

> James can sense something is wrong though. So he just starts talking. Evan doesn't say a single word, but they're there for several hours.

> to James’s surprise, Evan shows up the next night. Then the next. Eventually he starts to talk. And they become something like friends.

> evan is terrified of vulnerability. James doesn't understand enough at this point to understand the effects trauma and abuse can have on someone, and how the worst reactions can come out in a relationship.

> James wants "desperately" to fix Evan. He's alwyas been good at lifting his friends out of a bad mood, why is Evan any different?

> but this isn't a bad mood, it's Evan coping with years of neglect and terrible abuse. It can't be fixed within a few weeks. James is frustrated. Evan feels more like a project than a lover.

> that's not to say they don't have good moments. They love each other. They see each other in a sort of idolized way though, and when the other can't meet those standards they start to question to quality of the relationship.

> Evan starts to deeply resent the way James grew up in such a good household, and James resents the idea that Evan is so "okay" with siting back and doing nothing about this cult who tortures muggle borns in the "name of god".

> they're young and lack a lot of understanding for certain things. It isn't their fault but it isn't healthy either.

> the breakup is hard and messy. Neither really wants it but they need it. They're cruel with each other, it's too much. James in order to cope moves on very quickly, and evan is never able to get over that. He will live the rest of his life looking back on that relationship and thinking that he was nothing but a pet project.

He follows evan as a deer and always just sits with him, and evan gets so oddly happy because he thinks some sort of animal whisperer because this deer just lays his head against him whenever he's having a hard time.
