at the beginning of the series, we see that haruhi is pretty apathetic about most things. how she’s perceived, what she does with her spare time, how she dresses - nothing much matters to her either way, so long as she can study & get her chores done.
i think a part of the reasons she loves the hosts - & tamaki in particular - is because they are all so inherently skilled at seeing the beauty in everything. little trivial things become treasures, the everyday mundane becomes exquisite & fantastic through their eyes, their vision, once they get their hands on it, or wrap their minds around it: they can spin anything into a wonderful adventure.
