Wedding Ring
I put a wedding ring on her finger. A beautiful size 7 golden band with a 2 carrot princess cut diamond sitting in titanium prongs. It's sleek simple design looked extravagant on her slender hand.
But that was 200 lbs ago.
Once she was married, a sense of security and comfort washed over her like a wave. She was finally able to enjoy her meals, to satiate her hunger. Dinners that used to be half-a-plate turned into three plate meals. Midnight snacks turned into late night binges where she would clean out the entire fridge. She would eat until she couldn't move and always did it with a smile on her face.
That small slender hand has turned into a plump hand with fingers as thick as sausages. That simple, elegant ring which once showed off her slender hand has begun to be enveloped in fat. It's completely stuck on her finger, entombed in the results of her gluttony.
The symbol of our love had become so much more. It became the representation of the moment she was finally able to love herself. It became a reminder that she was my princess and she would have everything she wanted. It became a reminder that she had trapped herself. That she had entered a cycle of eating and gaining weight she couldn't leave even she tried.
