Seriously though, here’s why you should read Akatsuki no Yona
Although it’s in the shoujo category, the main plot is adventure, with the romance being a subplot.
It starts with a spoiled airheaded princess who only cares about her hair and trying to get the boy she likes to notice her. When he kills her father and chases her out of the castle, Yona is forced to flee with her bodyguard and learn how to survive the harsh way.
It highlights friendship bonds like no other manga.
At first you think it’s a harem but you realise it’s literally the opposite; they’re a big cute dorky broken family who would die for each other.
The main character (Yona) is the epitome of female character development done right. It’s well paced and the trauma is very realistic. In time, she goes from a weak naive girl to a warrior princess that basically leads a group of monsters.
She starts to learn swordsmanship to protect her friends and loved ones.
She is forced to open her eyes to the horrid reality of poverty and how it infected the kingdom.
Also her strength doesn’t negate her femininity. Girls can be cute and like pink and still kick ass.
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS

No character is completely bad or completely good. The mangaka makes sure all the characters are flawed.

LITERALLY EVERYONE loves seeing Yona being badass. Except the Mom Friend because he worries too much.

At times it gets completely angsty and other times it gets hilarious and it’s a perfect balance.

Honestly it’s such a good manga, and the mangaka has written many stories before so she’s well-versed on how to construct stories and there’s foreshadowing EVERYTHING and I’m weak for well-constructed plot.
The managaka is a genius, I promise. She keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole story.
It also has a cute anime that closely follows the manga for the anime folks.
