headcanons, (possible) backstory and other information below the cut.
TAKUMI simply goes by TAKUMI OF THE TIDES. He has no other name or title; it was bestowed to him by the EMPRESS after displaying loyalty to the GUARD.
He is effectively mute above water, and uses sign language to communicate. (Though underwater, TAKUMI can speak perfectly.)
He has been apart of the RIVER GUARD for a lengthy amount of time - he joined as a simple KOI WARRIOR just before MIZUKI became EMPRESS.
He comes from a winding lineage of previous KOI WARRIORS, traced back to the events of the SHATTERING WAR.
TAKUMI previously served as STRAYβS personal caretaker and mentor, before being promoted to one of MIZUKIβS advisors after her brotherβs departure to the FOX CLAN.
He also commands a smaller battalion of warriors for the RIVER GUARD.
TAKUMI derives vitality from moonlight, he does not know why, or how.
If he is particularly lethargic or injured, TAKUMI is forced to transform into a regular koi to regain his strength. (He can also do this at will.)
πππππππππππ;
TAKUMI is everything you would want in a KOI WARRIOR. He is stoic. He is courageous. He is respectful. He is undyingly loyal.
He shows absolute obedience to the RIVER GUARD, and expects the same from his underlings. Serving as the EMPRESSβ advisor, one must be cunning like the tide, and as swift as the sea.
TAKUMI also has a strong sense of justice, he is quick to distinguish the right and wrong within a newcomer and treat them accordingly.
Like his ANCESTORS, TAKUMI is a master of the blade. Being a skilled warrior is practically in his own blood. He is known to be ruthless when commanded to be so, disposing of anyone who threatens the RIVER GUARD with an eerie calmness.
Despite it all, he ensures he is respectful above all else to everyone. Even his foes. He honours the need for self-discipline and calmness even in the face of threat.
ππππππ;
TAKUMIβS dialogue will mainly be written like this; ββ¦β (Flow like the stream, strike like the ice.)

* @ronin-kendo had looked in every book he could get his hands on. Every single one that spoke of the River Guard blade arts spoke of their movement, how they ebbed and flowed like the tide, how they crashed like waves or rushed like a river. Not one seemed to imply that such language was to be taken LITERALLY.*
*Still, Morgan had told him that this was worth looking into. So, he went to the one person he knew was a true Grandmaster of the Blade Arts: Takumi.*
*When he found him, he bowed in greeting, making sure that it was not too low (his etiquette lessons had been quite clear on this, being a prince and all), yet still respectful of his age and experience.*
Grandmaster Takumi, greetings. I have been going over my forms lately, and have noticed some... oddities. I was hoping to request your presence in looking over them, so as to see if you might be able to pinpoint wherefrom they arise.
[TAKUMI sheathed the OCEANβS EDGE and turned as he heard the man approach, bowing in turn, at a deeper angle than KENDO; before straightening up after the greeting. After a short beat of silence, he began to sign in quick, flowing motions.]
ββ¦β (Her Imperial Majesty has recounted many a tale about you, Prince. THE TIDES believed it was time we finally met face-to-face.)
[His movements were fluid, as if gravity was a mere suggestion. TAKUMIβS fins seeming to swim languidly in some unseen stream. He tilted his head slowly, his eyes blinking one after another as he studied the shorter figure.]
ββ¦β (You are aware of your shortcomings in the blade. Good. Many of my subordinates tend to forego that skill.)
[TAKUMIβS expression displayed a slight impressed twitch- a grand feat. TAKUMI rarely, if ever, showed emotion.]
ββ¦β (I will observe. Any of THE GUARD who is willing to go with the flow will happily receive my teachings.)
*Kendo thought to make comment about how he felt like his forms were perfectly skillful, but bit his tongue. Takumi had lived many years longer than he, and was well recognized as a master. His own skill, nothing but raw talent and two years practice, was not nearly as impressive.*
You honor me, Grandmaster. I shall begin.
*Clearing his mind, he began. Slowly, as he had been taught. One position flowed into another smoothly.*
*He acted without haste. He focused on the feeling in his muscles, in his entire body. He breathed in.*
*The next form flowed, but suddenly, energy like a wave of water spilled from the edge of his blade, trailing with the motion of the slash.*
*He breathed out, then looked up at Takumi.*
That! That, just then! It has been occuring occasionally as I train, though it has been growing in frequency as of late.
[TAKUMI blinked in a startled manner, his head jerking back as he observed the arc of energy. His fins, clasped behind his back, tightened their grasp on each other. That was certainly..unexpected.]
[He stepped forward, looming over KENDO as he processed what he had just saw. His stature was ever-so-slightly unsettling, almost uncanny.]
"..." (It is...out of the ordinary, Prince. I have not yet seen such raw power from my students. While skilled warriors can guide the current with their blade, this is..different.)
[His fins froze in their signing, representing his halted train of thought as he mulled over what to add on. TAKUMI OF THE TIDES was rarely..speechless.]
"..." (It flows like THE TIDE, yet its stream is unfamiliar. Have you approached Her Imperial Highness about this development?)
[The silence drew out. TAKUMI seemed to smirk.]
"..." (While that show of newfound spark was impressive, you are still much too tense. You must flow much more smoothly; allow THE TIDES to guide your stride. Alas, If you remain quite so stressed, your..talent may lash out in an unpredictable wave.)
