           even if his wasn’t the face she had wanted to see after making it out of her stepmother’s house, at least it was a face. at least he had known what to do about that cut on her leg, at least he hadn’t left her there on the ground to bleed to death. he deserved information, didn’t he? about her, about her life, about why she was out on her own at all, just a wisp of a blonde-haired thing out alone in the world like this? 

             she takes a breath, looks down at the can of peaches in syrup in her hand. fishes out a section of fruit before passing the can back over. “i don’t know if there’s really much to tell,” she says. “i’m not much of anybody, really. i….” she shrugs, blinks hard. she’s never seen crying as a sign of weakness, not really, but she doesn’t want to cry in front of him. not now. not when she barely knows him. “but….i’ll tell you what you want to know, if you ask.”

     effie may know the games like the back of her hand,   but she is unknowingly missing key evidence of which haymitch is hiding from her.   any form of alliance will have a deeper meaning in the end.   these games will not end with one tribute.   to survive these games is to survive the beginning of a war  –  a war she does not know is coming.   and she does not know who haymitch has hand - selected to bring the future mockingjay to her station.   they have discussions before every game,   about who is the ideal ally.   most years,   her peer would just drink and grunt.   he had no real motivation to play the game.   but now   …   well,   they have a shot.   

     ❛   i’m sure your serenade is akin to that of a siren,   ❜   she compliments with ease.   ❛   now,   please excuse me if haymitch has already spoken to you.   we are stretched so thin these games.   it seems katniss and peeta are garnering quite the amount of attention.   ❜   of course,   she knows how much tension they’ve created with their dual win,   but not to the extent.   all she knows is that president snow will be sure that only one makes it out of the games alive.   she intends for one of them to be her own.   ❛   but of course,   you are worth our time.   you know what ?   my dear brother is a game - maker.   he specializes in designing the mutts.   ❜   it’s said so nonchalantly that it seems unimportant.   but how important it is to know people working on the inside.   ❛   it would be quite the delight if you spoke with my tributes.   if you do some conversing,   i will do the same.   ❜   it is a bit dangerous to try and get information about the games prior to them beginning.   but if she is able to sneak in details to finnick beforehand,   it may be enough incentive.
