hello, everyone.

it’s been a while since i’ve posted, and my presence here has been at a bare minimum. time and time again, i try to get myself to come on here and try to drum up activity. there are bursts of replies here and there when i have the time, energy, and motivation to crank out replies, but i’ve noticed that for months i’ve been here for the minimum. as much as i love writing with all of you when i’m here; as much as i love my muse; as much as i love simply being here; i’m not here enough to fully engage with everyone. this group has been a wonderful community to be a part of for the past two years (yes, two years. it’s been a wild ride between miyeon and julien) and as saddened as i am to announce this, i feel that it would be best for me to take my leave for now. the spot would be best opened up for someone who would be more active and would be able o bring more life in. but for the time being, i cannot find it in me to bring in the activity that this role deserves.

so for now, i am taking a step back. you may all reach me on here via message, or even on discord at ampharose#6514. heck, if you want to even get at me on twitter, you are more than welcome to drop your usernames and i’ll follow. 

who knows, maybe i might come back when i’m in a better place and have more energy to devote; maybe i’d come back with my baby julien, or maybe i might come in as another character. 

a big, huge thank you to all of you that have stuck around with me and with julien, and a really large shout out to @fmdtaeyong for being a fabulous person to write with but also the most hardworking admin i’ve ever seen on rp. and with that, i am heading out. 

“ah, good. i was worried i was listening to some other julien shin by accident,” ash jested, acting out the emotion of exaggerated relief. “you’ve been on a roll lately with your songs. i’m impressed. not that you’ve ever not been on a roll.” ash shifted in the padded comfort of the studio chair as he tried to prop his phone up against something. failing, he leaned forward and held the phone as he rested his elbows on the expanse in front of him. “i’ve, well, i’ve been,” he answered simply, at a loss for much else to say and still be honest. “should be trying to get sleep in before i’m back to promotions again, but you and i both know the likelihood of that happening.” he moved one hand to prop up his chin at the mention of the music video. “oh, you heard? is that a rumor going around now? yeah, bc decided to shove me into lipstick’s new video so that i can ruin their latest masterpiece with my annoying face,” he laughed.

2. what are you favorite b-sides/non-title tracks you’ve released?

“aha, funny story. majority of my releases came out as singles, and i’ve released maybe a mini-album or two; event then i had two title tracks, so there aren’t many songs to pick from. however, i would like to say that ‘stop the rain’ off of the interview ep is probably one that’s dearest to my heart. recording that ep in general was great... it was the first release i dropped in 2016, and i look to the ep as the turning point in my career. if i didn’t have ‘the interview’ and ‘good for you’ as the title tracks, i would have selected ‘stop the rain’. heck, i still sing that song to this day; it’s just a song that sticks with me.”

7. what one thing (concepts, genres, styling, frequency of comebacks, etc.) would you like to change about your current career as an idol?

“the one thing i would definitely want to change about my current career the most is the frequency of comebacks. while the perfectionist in me spends a lot of time planning, rehearsing, and executing my releases, i wish i could come back more often. it would be a win-win situation; my fans could see me more, and i could interact with them more. although i’m sure my manager and my cat would prefer we keep it the way it is right now. but i don’t mind if the comebacks are as a subunit or collaboration with another artist, as long as it’s a chance for me to spend more time on stage.”

23. out of the following six options, would you rather be allowed to play a major hand in the lyrics, production, choreography, styling, music videos, or concepts you release?

“really good question. i’m not a bad dancer, but i’m pretty average so i’ll pass on the choreography. i’ve grown to have more creative input for my concepts and music videos, like traveling to mexico and london for example. i think i’d like to play a major hand in the production of my releases. it’s the area i’d like to improve in the most as it’s something i’m still new to and learning. i’ve been working a lot with jerome, who is an absolute beast in the studio. once i’m able to have more input and grow in that area, then i would be virtually self-sufficient in the production process. i’m all about growth here.”

30. what would you like to change about how society views or treats idols?

16. what changes would you implement if you were the ceo of your company?

“i don’t mean to be biased, but i do like to think that bang sunyoung is one of the tamer and understanding ceo’s currently in the industry–i believe this may have to do with the fact that she was an idol herself. for this reason, i do feel that most of the work that she does when it comes to policies with the company tends to be fair for the most part. however, if there is a change i would like to implement, it would have to do with creative freedom. hear me out, okay? just… think about it this way. we train as idols and become performers. when we debut, we are each given a certain image and concept, and in the case of groups also have an additional image of the group. if i were the ceo of gold star, i would encourage more creative freedom with the artists. for example, i would have the first several singles and concepts be produced and written by the creative team, but once the artists are more comfortable and confident with their group’s image (or their own professional image for the soloists), i would encourage the artists to start taking a bigger role in the production of their future concepts, be it in the studio, at the drawing board, or behind the camera lens.”

22. describe your dream sub-unit (members and concept).

“oh, man. my dream subunit… it’d be similar to element in the idea that it would be a co-ed group of four members. however, it would be a vocal-focused group in that all four members would be strong vocalists, but they’d have a variety of ranges. a soprano, an alto, a tenor, and a bass… or maybe a baritone; it’s so hard to find a true bass sometimes. anyway, they would have solid vocals, but also would have a lot of harmonization in the songs. as for the concept, i am a huge fan of dreamy and dance concepts; think along the lines of “clarity” by zedd, or “starry eyed” by ellie goulding, or even chungha’s “roller coaster” in terms of musicality, complete with the falsetto singing. and i’d name the subunit pegasus. because there’s a constellation called the square of pegasus and it consists of four equally bright stars, which would be the four members. what do you think of that one, hm?”

25. what is your least favorite part of being an idol?

ash’s facetime call is finally accepted, and he smiles into the screen of his phone, his face grainy in the low light of the bc studio ash is making the call from. the black hood of his hoodie pulled over his head doesn’t do much to help with the lighting. it’s a miracle he had good enough service down in the bc studios for his face to go through at all. “oh, i don’t know, what was it again?” he asks, acting out the motions of trying to bring a lost thought back to the forefront of his mind. “oh, yeah, you released a new song,” he exclaims, faking sudden recollection. ash hasn’t spoken to julien a lot recently, but the music video release had caught ash’s attention and he’d set a reminder to call his friend a few hours after it came out when ash was no longer required to be at the knight dorm for filming and julien was more likely to be free. “i don’t miss you~ don’t miss me, too~,” ash sings through his broad grin. “it’s really good. as expected of the julien shin! you wrote it?”

Throughout his years signed underneath Gold Star, Joonho had made plenty of friends. Of course it wasn’t all that easy in the beginning, especially considering the fact that he wasn’t exactly the most friendly. He was nice, but he had a very blunt and straightforward personality that not a lot of people cared for. The people who had stuck around long enough and had learned how to see through that have his utmost respect. They proved to him that there were people in the world who would stick around despite how hard to get along with he could be. In his eyes, those were the kind of people who deserved his friendship. One of those people were Julien. They had trained with one another for a while before either of them could debut, and that was where their friendship had formed. He smiled when Julien’s face finally popped up on his screen, waving at him. “I was just calling to congratulate you on your new comeback. Are you busy?” 

Finally alone again, Candy closes her apartment door behind her without looking back. She proceeds to take a quick shower and play some soothing music. After the quick wash up and getting into her comfortable clothes, Julien’s new song plays. She hasn’t had the time to listen to it due to her own group’s impending comeback which was just around the corner. They’ve been working hard to make sure people wouldn’t have to start looking for any holes that Goeun had previously left them with. 

After listening to the song, she decides to watch the mv and call Julien while she’s enjoying his new music. She decides to facetime him to congratulate him. Waiting for him to answer, Candy lowers the volume from her laptop, just a little so she can show it off to Julien when he picks up. 

“Hi.” Candy beams at him right away. “Oh, you know, I’m just here to ask if you miss me.” She laughs, quite loudly. His new song talks about not missing the person anymore and here she is, trying to make him say the opposite. “I prefer honestly better than this one because it keeps telling me not to miss you. It’s bad!” She then turns her phone to show her laptop screen where his new music video was playing. 

“I just called to congratulate you, honey.” Always using pet names for people she’s fond of, but a little sarcasm on pet names meant she dislikes the person greatly, good thing, Julien isn’t one of those. “Seriously, the song is so good. Now that I’ve gotten your attention, might as well sing me to sleep. I’m exhausted.”

the grin on julien’s face widens when he fully takes focus of what appears on the screen. “what a sight for sore eyes,” he responds, walking through the doorway and giving a bow of his head to the security guard holding it open for him. “unlike the person that song was about, i do miss you, dear hwayoungie. it’s been a minute, has it not?” he had to admit, it has been some time since he last saw the lead dancer of lipstick; awards ceremonies don’t count, given the limited amount of time they all had to interact. maybe it was one of those nights where he had been at the bc building staying late with either jerome or sooyeon or even visiting the knight members that he may have seen her, but he can’t remember exactly when.

 rubbing the sides of his neck he slightly narrowed his eyes.  “ hey, it’s not a cell phone screen, that’s why I keep telling you come over– I use my dads surround sound theater in the basement. bitches moaning in concert audio, wakes the neighbors up if they stayed home. “ he said with a grin that suited his sleazy nature. he was a horndog, and so what ? his prick needed tugging sometimes there was no shame in that.    “ hm.. “ He stroked his chin and turned to look at julien as he stepped backwards slowly. “ Alright then. Interesting wager… but we know I’ll probably win, so let it be known now, I want a good surf and turf down at one of those expensive tourist trap restaraunts at the pier. “ He smirked and raised his brows, before turning slightly to already what seemed to be a group of girls leaving a nearby establishment. “ There we go. “  He slightly chuckled before laying down his board to ride up alongside them, leaving Julien backstaged for a moment as he walked in time to talk to the girls.

“that... sounds absolutely ridiculous.” julien tries not to let a grimace out at how shameless the other is, instead letting the thick bangs covering his forehead sway from side to side as he shakes his head. “hard pass on that, drew drew, but thank you for the offer. i’m sure you’ll have much more fun without me, anyway.” it’s not as if julien’s a prude or anything; he’s just as hormonal as any other teenage boy. but watching dirty movies with his friend, complete with surround sound? not exactly his cup of tea.

with a snort, julien rolled his eyes. “someone’s being overconfident here. let it be known that when i win, you’re paying for dessert, too. something overpriced from ghiradelli square, or something along those lines in absurdity. besides, you know that i-” he’s interrupted, mouth still open and mid-sentence before drew disappears once more. “...well, then.”

it’s one thing to have a distinct sound when the music is written and produced for you, but it’s an entirely different thing to find and create your own sound. with just hitting his six years since debuting, it’s only been in the past year or so that julien’s been given more creative freedom in his releases. while he’s established his sound up until this point thanks to the producing teams on gold star media’s payroll, having more creative freedom equates to julien evolving and building upon his own sound. julien’s searching for a new direction to take his music while still sticking to his roots, looking to explore more about how to highlight different aspects of the song, from specific instruments to vocals. with a bunch of different genres and styles to tap into, his carefully curated playlist helps him spark inspiration in the studio.

now that i’ve kind of made my return back to life (although this next week is questionable since i still have a lot of work to do), would anyone like to plot? i only have one or two active threads so it’d be nice to get back into the swing of things ^^
