Ahh okay I see.. So, you’re telling me that someone who works 40 hours a week doesn’t deserve a living wage?

You’re telling me that when you’re working 40 hours a week you don’t deserve to be able to go home to your kids and put food on the table for them? Or even food for yourself? Ahh, but the “government caters to the uneducated” Well, let’s see.. If you’re working 40+ hours on the current minimum wage which is $8.05.. you’re making about $644 per two weeks which equals $1,288 per month. Now let’s take out taxes. BAM, now you’re left with $1,088. Now.. the cheapest apartments go for maaaybbe $500 a month if you’re lucky. That doesn’t include electricity or water. So bump that to $600 a month. Now let’s talk food.. realistically you’re going to be spending AT LEAST $200 on food a month (probably more if you have children). Oh, you have a car to get you to and from work? Bam, $50 for gas per month at the very least and probably $100 for insurance on top of that. God forbid you have any sort of payment on the car cause that’s at least another $200 a month. Forget any sort of car repair, that’s impossible. Plus a phone for emergencies like your child is sick at school or your uneducated job needs you to come in for work, let’s add $20 there. So.. your uneducated job gives you $1,088 and your monthly expenses AT THE VERY LEAST are $1,170. So there you go. You have to get a second job. But wait! I forgot that you want to go to college too to get an education so you don’t have to continue to work two jobs. Well, forget any sort of financial aid because you need to be a full time student to have any sort of help from the government and where are you going to find that time when you’re working more than 40 hours a week? So, I guess college is out of the question. But.. if you work 40 hours a week on $15 an hour.. WOW you’ll be making about $2000 a month! ONLY $1,000 MORE THAN WHAT YOU PREVIOUSLY MADE. BUT THIS $1,000 WILL BE ENOUGH TO SEND YOU TO COLLEGE TOO SO YOU CAN GET THE EDUCATION AND THE CAREER YOU WANT. As for quitting your stressful job as a paramedic to work at a coffee shop? Hey, that’s all on you. But as a future paramedic, I can tell you that I’m not becoming a paramedic for the money. I’m becoming a paramedic to help save lives.
