The students began last Friday morning by talking about vacant land use issues with Terry Schwarz, director of the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative at Kent State University. 

Last Friday, the SustainLab group visited Ohio City Farm during a Cleveland field trip day.

Martin Luther King Jr. exemplified many of the leadership qualities required to address sustainability-related challenges: vision, courage, and commitments to equity and community. 

This summer, FLSI@Oberlin will develop the next generation of sustainability leaders: motivated high school leaders ready to create change -- APPLY NOW! 

Andrew Watterson -- Cleveland's former Chief of Sustainability and currently a Senior Consultant at Brown Flynn -- talks to the students about Appreciative Inquiry -- a tool for social change that engages a community and its existing assets. 

"Growth in a finite system is impossible, particularly when that growth is at the expense of life support." -- Carl McDaniel speaks with the students about how the lessons of Ernest Shackleton's leadership might apply to climate change. 

"You can't always plan everything out in advance, the best thing to do is to have a basic values system." ... "With every project, there is a catalyzing phase, and a maintenance phase." -- Local foods leader Brad Masi (OC '93) on social entrepreneurship 

"Once you make a commitment, you want to behave consistently with that commitment.
