Unfortunately. If there was one thing Soda prided herself on, it was keeping her emotions behind lock and key, behind a velvet curtain sheâd manipulate per the act. She was losing her touch.
It was always people with green eyes that tried to get her to talk, wasnât it? A hand rises to cover, and rub over, Sodaâs mouth, teeth gritted behind it.  ( She didnât even like the color green. )  The other covers the top of her coffee, steam building beneath and singing her palm. Yâknow, it wasnât their problem, trying to act the therapist. She had one, thanks.
â Oh, I mean â I got all their current stuff. Minus the â Yeah. That thing. â  Sheâs got to snort, tipping back in her chair, sunlight glinting over the edge of the parasol.  â I mean like, new gear. Anything in the works, maybe? â
With her lean forward, all four legs of the chair sink back to the ground.  â Oh ⌠I mean, âs supposed to be confidential, sâall. Not that Agent 3 was sâposed tâ ever exist to the public, but ⌠I just ⌠ainât relevant like I usedâa be. Yâknow? â
Listening intently, she kept a close eye on the otherâs body language. Always a tough one, this one. But then again, most Inklings lived rather blissfully compared to this one. While she didnât want to pry to the point of discomfort, she knew there was certainly something on the Inklingâs mind.
Before speaking her mind, Flow reached out to stop a seemingly random Inkling that happened to be passing by, handing them a bit of money.
âDear, would you mind fetching me an iced tea? Iâll make sure we hold that Skalop gear you wanted.â With a quick nod, the Inkling was off. Flowâs eyes moved back toward Soda, a tinge of concern in them. She waited a good moment or two, gathering her own thoughts before leaning forward a bit, her voice taking on a more serious tone.
âYou know... I might seem like Iâm always zoned out and blitzed beyond anyoneâs wildest dreams, but Iâm not dumb. I hear about everything going on from the other Inklings. Maybe theyâre not the most accurate things Iâm told... but I can easily put together whatâs been happening lately.â
â...I mean, I am the way I am only because itâs kept me sane through the years.â
What seemed like an eternity passed during her brief pause, a transparent plastic cup filled with iced tea appearing in front of her. She took a small sip before continuing.
âYou donât need to tell me about anything confidential, but... I worry about you as much as my other kids, and I always do my best to help them. Tell you what... just talk to me for a bit, and Iâll get in contact with our Forge suppliers to see if they got something new, howâs that sound?â
takoruler:
Giving the matriarchal nature of his society, he knew when to call it quits. That terrifying gaze was his sign to actually take this seriously. With those words, he found himself straightening himself out ( as well as his octopus form would allow, anyways. ) It almost seemed ridiculous that he was being made to stop his only past time activity, but, well ⌠those eyes.Â
â Yes maâam, sorry maâam. It wonât happen again. â Two tentacles are brought together as he stares at the floor in shame. It seemed he was trying to remember the faces of the Inklings he bothered. The silence that pursued made obvious that he didnât remember at all. An attribute that certainly didnât help his case with her.Â
â Could I get a list or something. Squids all look the same. I canât possibly get to âem all. â
âNo.âÂ
Her initial answer was short, cold, and sharp.Â
âYou got yourself into this mess, youâre going to embarrass yourself to get out of it. If you really donât know who they are, then youâre going to have to ask around. And you better not make another scene doing so, do you understand?â
Before the DJ could even be given a chance to give any sort of detailed response, she had already whipped around and started shuffling off, to go attend to more important matters. Even leaving, the horrible chill in the air could still be felt.
@flowsheadspace âĄÂ for a starter!
â i wish my hair was a more interesting color. a lot of the residents have fun colors, but i donât think it would be very professional for me to change my fur. â
âOh, I wouldnât worry too much about professional, darling.â She gave the other a reassuring smile, the sea slug gently swaying about as always.Â
âIt seems like this town is a pretty small and friendly one... I donât think anyone would get on your case for it, if they all know you well. If youâre still unsure... maybe we can find a hat that suits you instead! Iâve been looking to set up a temporary shop here.â
((Me: Iâll get to replies later. Also me, four days later: Octopath good. Please raw me big daddy Olberic.))

((Iâll be getting to replies later. Iâm a bit burned out at the moment, so I donât wanna half-ass my replies.))
âNah... Iâm just pulling your leg. Do you really think the hippie life was a pure and innocent one?
Just donât let your parents know you all talk like that.â
â...â
takoruler:
To think heâd even been alive longer than the other. Possibly every sea creature in the general area. Yet, somehow the other displayed a demeanor he hadnât seen in a long timeâ one of a mother to a child. How long had it been since he had been scolded like this? Somehow it still sent fear into his three hearts.
â I, uh, er .. â Tentacles begin to wrap around each other, almost as if he was hesitant to speak. It was evident he had NOT been prepared for a moment like this at all. When the hell did he even apologize last? â I guess itâd be Iâm sorry? â
⌠Man, he was lucky this gal wasnât Agent 3. He would have lost a lot faster and far more humiliated than he did two years back.
Though somewhat pleased with the response, she knew better than to leave it at that. She already knew his type â always quick to go back to exactly what they got in trouble for. Staring right through him with a cold gaze, her stern, motherly tone only intensified.
âYou guess? Child, youâre going to promise to never do it again, and you will apologize to those Inklings. Iâm going to make sure to ask them about it later, and I better hear good news from them. Do I make myself clear, young man?â
Crossing her arms, she waited impatiently for his response, the cold air about her only growing all that much colder.
breakbeat-perfection:
âMan, I donât know âbout no auras or nothinâ, yo, but⌠I get it.â Sheâd somehow only just figured out the zombie part, but she got everything else, at least.
She has to⌠take really small steps to match Flowâs pace - Dedf1sh is⌠sheâs just too long.
âBuncha weird green Octolings come up from the underground to end all undergrounds, ainât no doubt someoneâs gonna get freaked out, dawg. sâfar as I know though, ainât nobody get kidnapped. These Sanitized kids is just tryna live their best lives up here, yâknow?â
She was a Sanitized herself, but she hadnât gone through any of the horrible things that had happened to them - in all honesty, she was just⌠green. She didnât think it was fair if she talked like she was one of them, considering all theyâd dealt with.
âYouâre takinâ it better than a lotta other people though, yo. Be nice if everyone was as chill as you, dawg.â
Well, that was a new one. While she wasnât unfamiliar with this underground, being a traveler in her younger years and all, these Sanitized Octolings were still a pretty big mystery to her. She was certainly told some things, but not really enough to know the full scope of things.
âOh my...! That underground? I couldnât possibly imagine what kind of heavy stuff is going on down there this time, but I hope you and your friends find a good home here. Iâll make sure to clear things up with my kids, theyâre not too good with figuring out new changes. They donât even have normal Octolings figured out, poor things.â
Stopping at the shelves, she turned toward the other, having to look quite a ways up.  âLook to your heartâs content. This is where we keep all the hottest stuff, the stuff that really makes you stand out! Perhaps a Jellyvader Cap, or a King Flip Mesh?â One of her arms gestured further upward toward the top shelves, several mannequin heads decorated with masks and headphones. âAnd if you donât think any hats call out to you, we have all sorts of headphones and masks near the top there. â
â...Sorry about my manners though, dear. If you donât mind me asking, whatâs your name?â

@flowsheadspace liked for a starter!
So many hats- sheâd never seen so many accessories in one place! Eightâs eyes wander the unusual shop, taking in the sight of all the homey decor and colorful headpieces. It takes a few moments, but her eyes eventually fall upon the shopkeeper and she stops, letting out a startled veemo when she realizes she isnât alone.
âUm⌠helloâŚ!â
Eight gives an awkward smile, raising a hand in greeting.Â
It seemed to be the usual slow hours for the shop. About this time, the Inklings were usually busy playing Turf Wars. As such, it gave Flow some time to herself, and a certain Emperor Shrimp some time to nap before the paranoia kicked back in. Despite this, she was ever-alert, taking note of the new face entering the store.
âHello, darling. Welcome to Headspace... I see youâre new!âÂ
She held out her arms in a long-distance hug before making her way towards the Octoling, each step combined with a slow, gentle sway. While some had been just about blind to all the Octolings showing up, Flow certainly wasnât one of them, her odd demeanor was almost always hiding much deeper thoughts. She was quick to take note that there was something especially unusual about this one... but before any questions, introductions.
âMy name is Flow... but some like to call me their Crazy Aunt! I always make sure my customers feel like home here. Tell me... whatâs your name, dearie? And just as importantly... whatâs that groovy soul of yours yearning for today?â
âThis is your conductor speaking.
Iâm on the wrong blog.â
âYou are all so young and inexperienced, it warms my heart.â
sangfear:
Sheâs aware of her surroundings, of course. Itâs hard not to be in places that made her anxious, and crowds did have a knack for it â maybe trying to relax in the Square wasnât such a good idea. The rotation had just hit, and so Inklings and Octolings alike came pouring out of the tower in a tidal wave to rival her brotherâs team; a fair few of them were headed straight for the outdoor cafĂŠ she was seated at, and she canât help but bristle as they near.
Yet distracted like so, Flowâs voice next to her does startle her â not a fact sheâs proud of.
Her hand tenses around her coffee  ( sheâd almost made to throw it ),  but her muscles do relax, if slowly. Flow poses no threat to her, she reminds herself; she notes Craymondâs absence, though dully, as well. And slowly, her gaze falls back to the glass-topped table; a spread umbrella kept the sunlight off and, along with the eyepatch, hid her face from view.
Despite it, a hand gestures to the chair across from her, if Flow so wished. Speech takes a moment longer.  â ⌠Just work stuff. Got assigned to a new place anâ it ainât doinâ me wonders. â  More than she needed to know, but whatever.  â You, um ⌠Yanno if Forge âas got any new stuff I could get? â
Carefully climbing atop the chair and safely positioning her tail in a maneuver she was quite used to by now, her deep green eyes focused on the otherâs face. If there was one thing she was good at, it was knowing when someone seemed troubled. She laid her arms on the table, hands peeking out of her sleeves to rest one over the other.
âOf course, darling. We just got stocked by Forge yesterday, if youâd like to stop by soon and take a look before it goes again.â Her words were followed by much quieter muttering. âSeems we canât get rid of all those Ghillie Helmets, though...â
âBut thatâs for later on. Please, you donât need to worry about being shy with me. Iâm the last person on Mother Earth that youâd see gossiping to anyone else.â
breakbeat-perfection:
âSoul-searchinâ, huh? I think this soulâs searchinâ for somethinâ loud, actually. Somethinâ that matches my shades, anâ reall-â The Sanitized glances up at the voice, eyes scanning across the store before settling back on Flow.
â⌠That you?â She could never understand the whole âzombieâ thing sheâd started being associated with - she was kinda green, sure, but what part of her looked⌠okay so she didnât breathe, either, but she didnât look dead, right?
⌠Okay so sheâs starting to get it.
âI donât eat brains, dawg. Hell, I barely eat anythinâ these days. Donât gotta.â
If it were anyone else, this would be painfully awkward. Thankfully, Flow was never one to lose her cool. With a slight turn of acknowledgement, the emperor shrimp hiding behind her had already shot off, now hiding behind a far-off shelf.
âForgive him... his auraâs all out of whack, you know?â
With a wave of her hand, she gestured the oddly tall... Octoling? toward a set of shelves containing some of the latest trends before slowly making her own way toward it.
âSorry about that, itâs just... I heard some pretty silly stuff lately about the dead walking again, and trying to kidnap people, but itâs probably just the kids imagining things again. I see all my customers as family, and youâre no different.â She gave her usual calm smile, hoping the other didnât feel too odd over it.

@takoruler Continued from here.
She wasnât shaken in the slightest by the octopusâ demeanor. Sheâd been alive far too long to care about anyone trying to intimidate her. Her usual smile dropped slightlyâa very uncharacteristically terrifying sign to anyone that knew her well. Thankfully she was rather patient, the irritation in her voice not yet fully evident.
âOf course I know, child. Iâm dealing with another angry little boy that has something to prove. Now, what do you have to say for yourself?â
breakbeat-perfection:
-
âUh- yeah, I think ya can!â Last time Dedf1sh had been on the surface, Annie had been running the freshest clothes store in the city - the DJ had yet to meet all of the new store owners, actually.
âI hear you got the freshest gear around, yo. You got anything thatâd go well with my tentas?â Her cap is removed, and she crouches down slightly, letting the other get a good look at the unusual ink gradient she was sporting. Apparently she hasnât noticed the otherâs slight wariness.
Huh... she doesnât seem all that bad after all. Though sheâd matched the appearance Flow heard of, she didnât seem so scary. Maybe it was coincidence, or maybe there was something else going on...? Either way, Flow wasnât going to act hostile towards someone that seemed so friendly, it just wasnât like her. Her features quickly shifted back to the usual carefree smile.
âOf course! Anythingâs possible with a little soul-searching. Tell me, whatâs the type of thing youâre looking for? Something loud, something subtle... maybe something that brings out your other features too?â
The high-pitched voice letting out a squeaky âDONâT EAT MY BRAINS!â from behind her was met with a slightly troubled glance.
