My dear lgbt+ kids, 

You may have heard something like “The gays stole the rainbow from God” before, but there’s a clear difference between the lgbt+ rainbow flag and Gods rainbow: 

Gods rainbow is a lot queerer. 

Hear me out: the rainbow flag has clearly defined color stripes. Those stripes are (in the typical designs) contrasting and separate from each other. 

Gods rainbow (or natures rainbow, depending on your viewpoint) however looks different to the human eye. It isn’t made up of separate colors. The colors gradually and softly blend into each other. 

I say “to the human eye” here because our ability to perceive colors is actually limited. Other animals see the world in different hues than we do! Even humans do not all see the world in the same colors. 

So, if we take Gods rainbow as a symbol for his love for humanity, then his love doesn’t fit into boxes. In fact, it’s so all encompassing that our limited understanding can’t even begin to grasp it. 

If God chose the rainbow to represent the love and hope he can give you, then he intentionally didn’t choose a black-or-white, one-or-the-other symbol. He chose something colorful. He choose a symbol that offers plenty of space for the in-between, for the misunderstood, for the undefined, for the undefinable, for the weird. For the queer.
