I’ve seen some questions on here about how to interact with the fae and why there are certain customs so I made a post. When interacting with the fae you must learn the proper manners and customs just as you do when going about your day to day life or visiting a different country. The Fae have very different morals, customs and social behaviour than us and can get offended very easily.

1. Do not say THANK YOU! This admits that you are in debt to them and they will expect that you pay them back. Debts and contracts can get messy with the Fae, even dangerous.

2. Do not give them your real name! Especially your full name because this gives them power over you. Instead use your witch name or fake name… say “you may call me *blank*” because you technically aren’t lying to them.

3. Do not accept food or drink from them! As the myth of Persephone and Hades states, eating the food of the faerie realm will forever tie you to that world.

4. Do not mention a new born! Faeries are very fond of children and you may end up with a changeling. Faeries may also mess around with your kid sometimes and curse them if you make them mad.

5. DO NOT LIE!As it is believed faeries cannot lie, they do not like being lied to but if you have to, twist your words to get them to believe you but Do not lie! I wouldn’t risk twisting your words too much because they are masters at this and can see right through, I would only attempt if you are very well spoken.

6. Always keep your promise! Promises are very sacred to the fae and hold a lot of power so if you break a promise, expect there to be some angry faerie cursing you.

7. Do not accept a gift! This also admits debt to them and they will expect something in return of equal or greater value.

8. There’s always strings attached!Don’t expect to make contracts with the fae and not have to worry about loopholes because they love twisting their words so you end up with the short end of the stick

9. Don’t be a loud mouth! If a fairy bestows a blessing upon you, you shouldn’t go around telling people about it because it may just turn sour.

10. Don’t be a snoop! Respect a faerie’s privacy because they value their privacy a lot and they don’t trust humans often so if you lose their trust…oh boy you’re in for something alright.

11. Don’t dance! Dancing with the fae, to faerie music or in the fae realm often ends in stories of dancing to your death.

12. Absolutely no Iron! Cold iron weakens and repels the fae, to carry iron while interacting with the fae will offend the crap out of them.

13. Debts will always be repayed! If you do something of service to the fae there will often be a reward but remember rules 1 and 9.

14. Do not say SORRY! Again this admits being in deep debt to them.

15. Always be the utmost polite to them! The fae may not always be the nicest but they are always well spoken, well mannered but also see themselves as higher than you, so treat them with the most respect and get on their good side.

Stay safe my dears

Some offerings that faeries appreciate (some commonly accepted, a tiny bit of UPG).

1. Honey

2. Milk (you can mix it with the honey)

3. Thyme (both burnt as incense and grown in window sills or gardens)

4. Shiny objects (coins, jewelry, polished stones)

5. Sweet things (such as candies or small baked goods)

6. Many people set out bread for the fae

7. Firecrackers, sparklers, etc.

8. They seem to enjoy jokes and pranks. You can offer up a prank in their name–just make sure that the person you’re pranking won’t be upset and there’s no risk of anyone being injured

9. Rose buds, burnt as incense or just set on an altar or outside

REMEMBER: Be careful with incense; some people are allergic to certain herbs and plants. Also, if you set off any fireworks or use anything with TNT, make sure it’s legal where you live, and use proper precautions.

WITCH IS A GENDER NEUTRAL TERM

I’m a hellenic polytheist as many of my followers know, and a lot of the time finding things to put on an altar for deities is really hard to do, especially if money is tight, but more so when you feel like you should have some form of actual representation of their symbols but don’t have access to them due to money reasons or otherwise. I realized I could do one thing. and a lot of people had very similar things. Paper and Paint.

You’ll understand why I’m saying paint, but here’s a reason why, Colored paper is expensive, paints you can mix to make other colors and stuff and it’s just cheaper than anything, plus you can paint on some cool designs to the paper you’re using! In this post, I’ll include some origami ideas for a few deities, not a lot but a few, I’m not too familiar with a lot of them but still! Just some fun Ideas! Let’s get started!

What is Origami?

Origami is a Japanese paper folding art to make flowers, animals and inanimate objects with paper and paper alone. Usually, you only need a single sheet or strip of paper. If I’m wrong or if there’s a better way to explain please let me know and I’ll gladly adjust this!

How can you use it in Worship/Witchcraft?

Well, if you struggle with say, buying certain tools like bowls, statues, or just simple decorations you want to add to your altar, then origami is very helpful! Say you want to make an altar for Artemis. But you can’t afford to buy a few things for it. Say you want something to symbolism her, be it her animals or plants, use origami to help you! You can make deers, wolves, dogs, foxes, and any other wood animal creature there is! I’m also 90% certain you can make an origami bow and arrow for her as well as little stars! This is actually really helpful!

Why Do You Use Paint?

The most accessible kind of paper is going to either be paper from printers or journals. Hence why Paint is easiest to use, especially if you want your little origami pieces to be a specific color! If you can afford to get different colored papers then go for it! It’s all up to you and what is easiest for you.

What do you do for the Gods you Worship?

Hades= Roses, Lilies, Bats, Skulls, Owls

Persephone= Any Flower, Bats, Skulls

Artemis= Deer, Wolves, Flowers, Stars, Moons, Bow and Arrow

Apollo= Suns, Instruments, Sunflowers, Turtles, Dolphins, Bow and Arrows

Dionysus= Leopards, Pinecones, Vines with Leaves, Grapes

Essentially there are many kinds of things you can make with origami for your deities and I know it’s not limited to Greek deities. Get creative and do some research!! And more importantly, have fun!!!
