one of the most important things, perhaps the most important thing I have learned in my life is that nice people can fuck each other up in monstrous ways. people can be bone deep kind and loving and self reflective and still lash out under pressure. people can be earnestly neighbourly and charitable and hospitable and generous and still find themselves in situations where they become selfish. people can be well meaning and easygoing and gregarious and hold deep seated opinions that turn them into vicious little bullies under the right conditions. nobody is just one thing, and nobody stays one way. every person is a kaleidoscope and they will surprise you. you will surprise yourself. it's not a warning and it's not a judgement and it's not an excuse, and it's certainly not a reason to stop trying or to stop trusting. it is just a fact.

Reassurance Masterlist
My blog is mostly harsh to read, so here’s every reassuring post I made:
When you feel it “wasn’t that bad”
How loving parents act towards their kids
You’ve done enough to try and understand your parents
Abuse towards you cannot be justified
Abuse and trauma have no benefits
When you feel you weren’t abused enough
There was nothing you could have done differently to avoid abuse
It’s not your fault you feel like you don’t belong
Talking about abuse isn’t whining
Craving abuse is not your fault
Self-harming is not your fault
Intrusive thoughts are not your fault
Nobody in your situation would be able to get it together
Needing attention, comfort and validation is normal and human
You’re allowed to feel your feelings
You cannot provoke abuse, and you did not ask for it
Abuser’s point of view is not valid
Abusive parents can’t tell you who you are
Responsibility for abuse lies on abuser, not on you
Your pain is not a burden on others
When you struggle to call yourself a survivor
You do not deserve abuse even if you feel addicted to it
Your abuser didn’t have to hurt you
Nobody made them abuse you
Your future won’t be lost even if you can’t move forward right now
You are alive because of yourself
There are good things in you even if you don’t see it
Your problem isn’t that you’re not good enough
You can make up for everything abuse damaged in you
Relapses are not your fault and can be time-related
Craving abuse can mean you’re only craving comfort
Survivors of abuse will strive to create an environment of compassion
currently enjoying the stage of recovery where I have enough self esteem to get pissed off
Other sweet and sexy psych recovery milestones:
1. I can say the words "abuse", "trauma", and "flashback" out loud without feeling like a guilty liar
2. I'm angry and I don't feel bad about it
3. Accidentally discovered a personal boundary halfway through asserting it
4. I said something confident as a joke and someone agreed with me
5. Oh shit I *enjoy* things
6. I'm angry and it feels really really good
7. I genuinely think this person is a moron and I have no desire to rationalize their stupid choices
8. I'm a good person, actually
9. Just realized that the minor thing I thought I was upset about is actually a placeholder for the really old thing I'm *actually* upset about and suddenly the new thing isn't such a big deal
10. "Same trauma!" *fist bump*
11. Self-deprecation makes me uncomfortable, actually
12. Fuck it, I deserve nice shit I don't need
13. I fucked something up and I'm not a bad person, literally just moving on
14. Wild that I don't feel like apologizing
15. This thing that gave me a panic attack once is only uncomfortable now, fuckin righteous
16. I'm ugly in public cause I don't need to impress anyone and I literally do not care
17. Hey Bitches Who Wants To Hear An Opinion
18. Oh! People like me!! Wild!!!

“when i was a little girl, i thought that everything—all the abuse and neglect—it somehow made me special, and i decided that one day i would write something that would make little girls like me feel less alone, and if i can’t write that book...what was it all for?”
“You are not accidental. The world needs you. Without you, something will be missing in existence and nobody can replace it.”

“My whole life I’ve been telling myself, ‘don’t be afraid’. And it is only now that I’m realizing how stupid that is. Don’t be afraid. Like saying, ‘don’t move out of the way when someone tries to punch you’ or ‘don’t flinch at the heat of fire’ or ‘don’t blink’. Don’t be human. I’m afraid and you’re afraid and we’re all always going to be afraid, because that’s the point. What I should be telling myself is ‘be afraid, but do it anyway’. Live anyway.”
