“Don’t get too close, Jehan.” But he didn’t listen- he was always so stubborn. 

“Jehan, please, I won’t have you getting ill, too.” But he sat down on her sickbed- her deathbed- and leaned over to meet her lips in a tender kiss. A kiss full of all the words they had been putting off because they were too afraid to utter them and make this real.

With eyes wretched shut and ears blocked, he can’t hear a word she says, but feels the  c r e a k of the floorboards beneath her feet as the stranger draws nearer and NEARER. He can feel his stomach turning and his heart pounding as he casts skittish glance in his direction.

“Mustn’t be here. NO ONE is allowed. G E T  O U T . ”

It doesn’t seem that he’s able to hear her, and why should he? She knows his hearing is all but gone. Lifting her arm, she slowly, gradually lays her hand over his, attempting to gently pry it from his ear.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” She wouldn’t dream of it.
