Some post Eurovision thoughts.
The Winner
I have conflicted feelings about Bulgaria winning. I'm really happy they won after struggling to get to the final in most years, even though their songs haven't even been that bad. And the years they didn't partake because of financial reasons. I also think it's exciting when a country that hasn't won before, wins.
The song, Bangaranga, however, I do not like. I feel like it's quite repetitive and never really has a satisfying end. The different kinds of tempos are quite unique and interesting but that's about it. The staging I didn't like at all. I hate when something is clearly made for TV or when it looks like they're filming a music video.
The dance they do is very expressive and I do actually like it, it fits the song well.
I find the lyrics stupid but Bangaranga has big meme potential so yeah.
I just don't get how, out of all the songs, this was the favourite of both the jury and the public. I like it when there's an unexpected win but usually I can still wrap my head around it, but with this I just can't.
The voting
This kind of ties into my last point but I feel like there were so many disappointments for me this year. It really puts me off that I feel so many songs deserve better placements, in my opinion.
The contest
So going forward, I'm intrigued to see what will change and what won't. Despite the anti booing technique being gone, the voting system changed, all flags allowed and stricter rules on advertising etc. - Israel still did so well.
I'm kind of glad Eurovision is over. I enjoy the songs that participate but the whole competition just doesn't feel fun anymore. Maybe I'm too salty and old. Should I boycott next year? My main motivator is not Israel so probably won't be the right word for it. I just have a lot of mixed feelings
