Do you have any hobby ideas for a girl whose only hobby is calligraphy/handwriting/penmanship, this is the only hobby i actually have apart from reading, i know a lot about it and im really good, I even went to Pakistan for 3 month and had a 1-1 ustad to teach me, didn’t even visit my family just went for that. I’m mainly interested in Urdu/Arabic/Persian script (all the same script basically) and roman script but I know a lot about east asian calligraphy too I just don’t do it. I know basically everything there is to know about calligraphy/handwriting/penmanship but unfortunately no one cares so I have no one to talk to about it. I also need new hobbies because I feel like I’m boring.
the problem is that hobbies (i don't really have hobbies, i just live my life and do stuff but i'm only using that term for the sake of answering this) have been marketable for some time and not even so much in a materialistic sense, but we tend to approach them as personality assets, like each new thing somehow increases our "social value". i feel it is much more meaningful to be deeply absorbed in something than to have a thousand things on your plate because otherwise you might start negotiating your own "social value" through these hobbies, and i just have to say i use quotes because i don't really believe in it lol. no person is more or less valuable. what actually exists are social evaluations, so you have different kinds of communities, cultures, people who all admire different things, but even then who actually gives a fuck about any of that seriously. if you shift even the tiniest bit of your time on who finds what admirable you only get closer to denying yourself of immersing in something new because it genuinely captivates you, not because some random person will think you are cool. the problem is also that, if your sense of worth depends on how you are perceived, no amount of hobbies will ever be enough because you will always be looking for one more thing to do all in an attempt to resolve something that was never worth your time to begin with and tbf something that's not even real #JustSaying. all that aside you obviously have something that you genuinely love and cherish, and a level of discipline. i do just want to point out one important thing and that is that it's absolutely normal to want to have someone to talk about this with but you need to allow yourself to be completely absorbed by what you love and you will naturally stumble across the people who were meant to appreciate it. all love to you
