How Serendipity (and Nudity) Made Pedro E Guerrero FLW’s Favorite Photographer
What does it take for a 22-year-old art school drop-out to start a lifelong professional relationship with “the greatest American architect of all time”? Originally published by Curbed as “How a...
A couple weekends ago, we visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, an incredible home in the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania. The home was originally built for the Kaufmann family as their “weekend retreat” from the city of Pittsburgh, where they ran several department stores - which were later sold to Macy’s. We took a tour of the inside of the home and were blown away by the fact that the home was constructed in the mid-1930’s. Everything felt so modern! We both commented that we could see lots of resemblance to pieces at Room & Board.  Frank Lloyd Wright even designed the interior of the home to match the “organic architecture” look of the outside of the home. We were fascinated by the “cantilevered” main level of the home - a technique resembling a diving board - which allowed him to suspend the home over the waterfall! The entire home was built with stone + glass + concrete + steel. Loved the detail that the steel was painted Cherokee red. We took lots of notes of our favorite elements (open floor plan, no garage/big closets - which encourage clutter.., clean horizontal lines, lots of big windows, nature all around). Overall, worth the trip - it was a very inspiring visit!
