// I need the people to know I'm kicking my feet twirling my hair as I write this cuz we've been DMing about this scene idea....
[Elise and Cobyn hadn't exactly spoken since their last interaction. Cobyn's not the most confrontational man, there's not even much to confront about, really. There's just been space between them, like magnets repelling. Cobyn doesn't know if he truly believes it— that Elise truly rigged something in its favor, but the thought still makes him deeply uncomfortable. The concept of a game like this having a set outcome just doesn't sit right with him.]
[It didn't make sense for him to have any positive feelings towards Elise anyway. They set up a water bucket prank, broke a glass in Cobyn's room as Cobyn tried to help them, and then went on some ramble and left. It didn't make any sense.]
[...But when he walked into the casino room searching for someone and instead found Elise, sniffling and coughing with a cold, that distance and discomfort didn't stop him from approaching.]
"...Elise..? Is everything alright?"
- @creative-gardener
"Everything is perfectly fine."
They say it almost immediately like they've already been asked this. Its still the most blantant and unconvincing lie ever. It's sniffling just about every seven seconds and looks visibly miserable.
"I wonder if there's any medicine around, maybe they had some in the med kit?"
[He's completely ignoring the claim to be fine.]
"I am NOT asking the bird lady for help."
"Or you either. I said I'm fine."
Elise is probably just moody because its sick and not feeling well. Surely Cobyn can cheer him up!... Right?
"Well not wanting anything from the med kit is alright, I'm sure the bar might have some tea!"
[He grabs his bag's strap, tilting his head towards the door, gesturing for Elise to follow.]
Elise groans in annoyance, but follows along. Truthfully, he's too sick to be that stubborn about not wanting help. It doesn't make much commentary, seeing as even being this sick is embarrassing for it.
"Yeah, whatever."
[Cobyn seemed surprised that they actually followed, but he keeps walking towards the bar. Despite his upbeat demeanor, there's still a tense air, as there has been between them since their last conversation.]
"...And how long have you been sick?"
Elise remembers their previous conversation, but doesn't think much of it. The rigged setup thing was a lie. Cobyn must've not believed it since he's acting so casual and cheery around them now. At least that's what Elise assumed. So the atmosphere was rather casual to it as opposed to Cobyn's tense feeling.
"Since I woke up this morning."
He wouldn't ever admit it out loud, but they're a weak lil guy who thinks it's dying everytime they get sick.
"Oh, that's... Inconvenient. At least it's only been a few hours then!"
[He was tense physically, too. Not making much eye contact. It was almost comedic next to Elise's more laid back demeanor (despite their health)]
A few hours? This was basically an eternity worth of suffering, but that's just Elise's opinion.
"Most definitely inconvenient."
You can hear the sickness in it's deadpan voice, if you couldn't already tell from the constant sniffling and sneezing.
[They get to the bar, the only other person there being Bones in the corner with a drink. Wonderful. Just what Elise needed, not only help from Cobyn but someone else to see that help being given.]
[Cobyn walked to the bar, tapping his fingers against the counter as he orders some tea. He gets oddly specific with the order, clearly annoying the bartender.]
Elise stands awkwardly by, hoping Bones doesn't notice it hanging around with Cobyn. Honestly just hoping Bones doesn't notice it in general. This is like, three levels of humiliation. 1. They're sniffling and sneezing every other second. 2. They'd literally called Cobyn a himbo in their last gossip / shit-talking session. 3. He's drinking tea. How stereotypically british is that? So Elise keeps their mouth shut and tries to be as quiet as possible with their sneezes.
//cough @deadlydreamboat if ya wanna join us
// waited to see if they did want to join or not and then forgot about it and now it's been nearly a month
[Cobyn happily gives the tea over to Elise- it's odd to imagine him so cheery around them after their last interaction, this better not be poisoned or drugged or some bullshit. Either way, he's handing it over and sitting at one of the stools, clearly expecting Elise to sit as well.]
{It groans like a whiney child before taking a seat as well. He takes a sip of the tea and grumbles. The tea is actually really good, but Elise won't admit that. Their whole vibe is really pouty-child-esc as of right now, even though the tea is helping. Only a bit, though; Elise is still sniffling a lot.}
"Does that feel any better?"
[He tilts his head, and the sincerity- or at least the look of it -could be more sickening to Elise than the actual illness at this point.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...yeah ` `
{Elise has no idea if it might be poisoned. Getting poisoned by the gardener was literally the last thing on its mind. Surely that wouldn't be of consequence. Right?}
[He tilts his head, a small smile on his face. He looks content and calm. It's not a teasing smile at least, despite his next words.]
"You know, I really didn't expect you to let me help you."
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` Well, frankly, I'm too miserable to give a fuck. So, think of it as a special exception. ` `
{ The cold isn't even that bad. Elise is just a little bitch who doesn't handle any sort of pain very well. }
[He laughed a little at that- the laugh seemed almost forced. Almost.]
"...Was it true, Elise?"
[That's vague.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...was what true?- ` `
{ Oh. Right. Hmmm. It doesn't necessarily need to keep Cobyn in check right now, but it doesn't hurt to. Well, doesn't hurt Elise to, anyways. }
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` Oh, that! Yeah, one-hundred-percent! ` `
"I was thinking about it last night, and I was curious about something, if you don't mind me asking?"
[Despite the politeness, he doesn't actually wait for an answer before asking.]
"How are you certain?"
{ How are they certain? That's a very good question. There isn't much of a way to convince him. But he doesn't really need to. It just needs to keep it enigmatic enough to keep them guessing and on edge. }
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` That's for me to know and you to guess about! ` `
[He tilts his head, thinking for a moment.]
[He then shakes his head, seeming to disagree..?]
"...Is there any way you'd tell me?"
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ..no? Can't I just be mysterious for once? ` `
{ Talk about self-centered. It doesn't even care why Cobyn wants to know, just having its own way. }
"Is being mysterious your only reason to not tell me? That's Maneki's thing, you know."
[He laughed softly at his own joke.]
[He was unsure how obvious it was that he was subtly, slowly trying to ease Elise up to the idea of telling him, or at least being open enough for one of them to suggest a deal.]

She loved her friends. She loved her friends dearly.
She also missed her friends. Alot.
Nowadays, they took up more space in her head than usual. Not that she minded too much. They were nice to think about, but it made her feel lonely. And what did Onpu do when she was lonely?
Think about the people they'd like if they were there with her :D
⋆˚꩜。
Recently the Lady Cannibal had been quiet lately. Well, even more quiet than she was in general. As if something was occupying her mind. Or someone. Someone very dear to her.
She'd taken to following Cobyn around. Not in a stalker way as she would with others but like a cat just following someone it found interesting.
Cobyn would just be doing his own thing and when he turned around, the woman was right there. It seemed she didn’t understand how creepy she was being. She did leave when Cobyn asked her to though.
Right now, Onpu remained behind him, not close enough to feel like she was breathing down her neck but definitely close enough to know she was drilling holes into the back of his head.
"Hmn…you seem like someone Yu Ge would be interested in"
She mumbled, mostly to herself as she stared blankly at the man. While Yu Ge was definitely not the nicest and would absolutely give backhanded compliments to him, Cobyn's love for plants was definitely similar to Snakey's.
[Cobyn didn't commonly ask her to leave. Mainly if he had to have a conversation with someone else, he'd ask rather politely, but he didn't mind too much. He found it confusing, though. He wasn't exactly interesting, and if she was following him around for any info that could be useful to her game-wise, she wouldn't find much. He'd jump here and there when noticing her, but less so as of late. He was calm.]
"Yu Ge? That's a nice name... Any-... Any reason?"
Onpu's visible eye met hers, it's eerie edge softened into something more calm.
"He adores plants."
She replied gently.
"Especially poisonous ones, in fact he used to lace my tea with belladonna or foxglove~. I'd always have a bottle of antidote on me every time I went over to his for tea~."
The lady said with a slight giggle to her tone, as if recalling something funny. Yu Ge was her closest friend. Her best friend that. The first one to not fear her.
Snakey, dearest Snakey~♡
"Oh, that's interesting! You never got too hurt, did you?"
[He seems oddly calm about the poisoning too?]
"It's not the most polite, but it seems like you don't mind."

"...Is there any way you'd tell me?"
[Cobyn very politely knocks on Sandbags door, holding the bouquet of flowers an anon gave him to give to Sandbag!]
- @creative-gardener
Sandbag opens it's door, expecting to see sailor, as he's pretty much the only one who stops by its room. He was a bit taken aback and mildly confused when he saw Cobyn standing in the hallway with a bouquet of flowers. Sandbag doesn't really know this "creative gardener" guy very well, so he assumes they just knocked on the wrong door.
"Uh- Hi..."
"This is a bit awkward, I apologize!"
[He chuckled, tapping his foot anxiously. He slowly brought a nail along one of the flower stems, about to scratch at it as a fidget, but he stopped, not wanting to harm it. His hand got tense as he did.]
"But I was given these to give to you!.. Unsure why they didn't just give them to you directly, but this is fun I suppose! Buttercups- they're buttercups."
"Oh- er- thanks!-..."
Sandbag is a bit confused and skeptical about the gesture, but accepts the flowers. He's never been that great at receiving gifts anyways.
"...And don't worry about being awkward- I get it."
"Oh, how's the arm? I was told it was electricity- if there's a burn, aloe vera could be great, I think I saw a potted one for decor!"
Geez, seems like just about everyone's curious about it's little electrocution endeavor. Hopefully Sandbag could make a better reputation for himself than 'the guy who got electrocuted the first minute on air.' It had left a quite gnarly burn mark, though.
"Doing a fair bit better now thanks to the pain meds in the first aid kit-"
Sandbag isn't very good at small talk, but Cobyn seems pretty nice, so that makes things a bit easier.
"...What's aloe vera?-"
Sandbag also isn't very good with plants.
"Oh, it's quite a nice healer! Very strong, and it feels cold too!"
[He pauses, looking at the flowers. He then awkwardly holds them out to Sandbag.]
"...Unsure what you might want to do with these, but we can put them down somewhere and then go find some aloe! I'm sure it'll feel nice on the burn!"
"Right- Yeah."
Sandbag takes the flowers, just as awkwardly, and sets them down on a side table next to the door. It's very careful with them, as it is with most everything. He's learned that if he's too rough with just about anything, it'll break. It's never really seen a boquet up close before, so it's definitely gonna spend some time examining the flowers later.
"Wonderful!"
[He begins leading him down the hall. He's rather excited to get an excuse to talk about plants, as per usual, but he's a bit tense. Sandbag is new to him. With everyone else, he got at least a small idea of what they're like with him in particular, he spoke to everyone at least a little, but due to its stunt in the first little bit, he hasn't gotten the chance to. But he trusts him, even trusts him enough to immediately turn his back to him as he walks down the hall. Sandbag seems loyal, above all else. A trait Cobyn respects."
"So you've never used aloe before?"
"No, I don't think so."
Sandbag isn't the biggest talker, especially not when it comes to people he doesn't know well. Luckily, Cobyn most definitely is.
[Oh, and boy can he talk.]
"Fun fact, it used to be planted on graves! It would encourage peacefulness before reincarnation! Not sure if I believe in reincarnation, but it's a fun thought! It's name roughly means 'shining bitter substance', or at least comes from a name that meant that! Associated with immortality, very protective too!"
[He paused in front of a seemingly random potted plant, the leaves sprouting up in an almost unsettling way, reaching, stiff. Cobyn lightly lifts a leaf as he speaks, crouching next to it.]
"Here's one! And it's so old it was depicted in ancient Egyptian art, isn't that neat?"
Sandbag nods as Cobyn speaks, trying its best to keep up with the pace of the conversation.
"Wow- that's a lot of symbolism.."
He pauses, leaning down a bit to look at the plant as well.
"Are all plants like that?- Y'know, all the different metaphorical meanings and stuff?"
"All plants have quite a bit! It's very interesting stuff- I think it is, at least."
[He very carefully removes one of the leaves and splits it open, handing it to Sandbag.]
"Put this on the burn! It should help."
Sandbag takes the leaf and looks at it for a moment before awkwardly setting it on top of the burn mark.
"...Am I doing this right-?"
[He sighed, laughing a little.]
"...Not exactly, but close! Here, let me help."
[He gently takes Sandbag's hand, properly applying the gel to his burn.]
Sandbag watches as Cobyn correctly applies the gel, mentally noting down how it's done for future reference. Y'know, just in case he fucks up a second time and gets electrocuted twice. It's still pretty anxious about getting shocked again.
"..Thanks."
The words are awkward and quiet. Sandbag isn't the best at expressing gratitude. Or expressing just about anything if you couldn't tell by now.
"Of course! How are you feeling?"
[The lack of expression puts Cobyn on edge a little. With Poppy and Vega, it's pretty easy to tell. Vega's rather expressive (whether they want to be or not), and Cobyn thinks he's pretty good at reading Poppy by now. But Sandbag's just... Anxious. And tense.]
"Uh- A bit better, thanks-"
Gosh, Sandbag doesn't even know this guy's name. Does he even know its name either?
"...I just realized I never really introduced myself. I'm Sandbag- I swear the 'crybaby underdog' role isn't accurate I'm not like that-"
[He chuckled.]
"I did think the role sounded a bit rude compared to others... It's nice to meet you, though! I'm Cobyn."
[He first puts his right hand out for handshake, then remembers that's the one that had gotten electrocuted and quickly switches to his left.]
Sandbag awkwardly shakes Cobyn's hand with a bit of a nervous smile. He's really trying his hardest to seem friendly and grateful for Cobyn's help.
"Right- Nice to meet you too."
[Cobyn smiles, then gasps.]
"You didn't get to explore at all because of the injury, did you? Exploring was fun."
"Uh- no. I guess I didn't."
Sandbag picks at its nails absentmindedly. It was a thoughtless fidget for him.
"Would you want to explore? I could go with you, it could be fun, and you wouldn't be at disadvantage due to knowing less! Or you could just rest if you need it, no pressure!"
Sandbag takes a moment to carefully weigh its options. He could be at a bit of a disadvantage not properly exploring his surroundings. Plus its already got enough rest to function normally again. Really, there isn't much harm in scoping out the area with Cobyn. Its just the fact he doesn't know them very well that makes it a bit daunting.
Then again, Sandbag doesn't really know anyone here all that well. The only person it knows remotely anything about is Sailor, and it still knows practically nothing about him. So, he hesitantly nods.
"Alright- sure."
[Cobyn absolutely lights up. It could be counted as a bit eerie that he's so excited to wander around with someone he doesn't know all that well, but either way, he's starting to walk.]
"There's a lot to look at! The shop is a bit boring, but there's a casino type area with quite a bit going on!"
Sandbag follows along, matching pace with Cobyn and walking beside him.
"I think I remember Sailor telling me about that. Not too fond of him gambling, but theres not much I can do to stop him."
He sounds like a worried older brother whenever he talks about Sailor. It's like its made looking after him one of its responsibilities, when it can't even look after itself all that great.
"I heard he's rather good at the shooting games!"
[Cobyn smiles at the concern for Sailor. It's sweet. He seems to be a bit calmer than before, a pinch less tense. He's getting a better idea of who Sandbag is, and he's trusting him more because of it.]
[He walks towards the casino, seemingly excited to show him around.]
Sandbag nods, it remembers Sailor telling it how easy it was for him.
"Just hoping it doesn't leave a long-term impact on him or anything. I know a lotta guys with gambling problems, and thats the last thing I want for 'em."
He's so fretful for Sailor that he's forgetting they're in a death game. He probably won't even make it out in the first place. It was a rather morbid thought, but a true one. Might be best as to not remind it. Sandbag seems to have enough on his plate to dread and worry about.
He doesn't want to spend this whole tour just talking to Cobyn about another person. So, Sandbag awkwardly changes the subject while they show it around.
"... You said all flowers and plants have a buncha meanings, right?- What about those flowers you gave me earlier? The.. buttercups! That's what they were, right-?"
"Oh I'm sure he'll be fine in the long run- oh! Yes, the buttercups! I didn't pick them out for you in particular, I was actually given them to give to you! I don't know what I'd choose to give you meaning-wise, but they're rather nice and do have good meaning!"
[He's so excited to talk about plants, he's not even thinking about talking about the location all that much as they enter the casino. Bright, flashy, and he's still talking.]
"They talk about a person's radiance and more generally discuss joy and friendship!"
"Wow- that's actually quite wholesome- I doubt I'm the most 'radiant' typpa guy, but it's a nice gesture otherwise.."
Sandbag actually quite likes hearing Cobyn talk about plants and such. The plant facts and symbolism is interesting and all, but listening to him ranting about his passion is the main appeal.
"I'm glad you think so! Personally I associate you with other plants, but buttercups are wonderful!"
[He slowed his walking down a little now that they've actually made it inside, letting Sandbag take the lead a bit more and look around if he wants to.]
Sandbag does a small scan of the area; taking notice of the various booths, slot machines, and overly bright colors. It's not all that interested in the gambling hall. He is, however, interested in Cobyn's plant talk. Hopefully he doesn't seem too eager to listen to them babble.
"..What plants do you associate me with, then?"
[He gets a bit quiet and awkward- not from anything negative, it's just an awkward thing to talk about. It shows a lot about a person.]
[He grabs his bag's strap, fidgeting with it a little.]
"...Gladiolus?"
[He says it like Sandbag would know anything about what that means, and maybe he's testing if he can get away with not elaborating on the meaning.]
"They have carnival food here! Which worries me a little because I don't think we've seen any places to get food besides here and maybe the bar, but that's just being hopeful."
"Looks like everything on the menu has at least a pound of sugar in it-"
Sandbag is more interested is hearing about what Cobyn associates it with than the food. It's only natural he's curious.
"What's that flower represent and stuff-?"
[Typically Cobyn would be a little less awkward talking about his associations with people, but he doesn't know Sandbag all too well. He's worried he might've had a wrong idea, or Sandbag might not feel as though it connects with him. With Vega's plant it was simple and a bit of a joke, Elise's was reasoning he thinks Elise would enjoy, those were easier to talk about than one he put more thought into. And he can't even rely on other flowers he almost chose, as Gladiolus was the only one he could think of for him.]
"...Usually people aren't this interested in what I have to say about plants! Should we keep walking around? You don't seem all that curious about the casino."
[Maybe that's it, maybe Sandbag is just bored by his surroundings and is looking for something to talk about.]
"Uh- sure. Yeah."
Sandbag is basically just following him around. He doesn't really know the layout of this place at all, and he doesn't like wandering aimlessly. So, its just relying on Cobyn to lead this time around. Begrudgingly, of course. It has trust issues.
"... I just like to listen, I guess-"
[He starts walking out of the casino. He wasn't sure how to feel about Sandbag being this interested in what he has to say, especially for something as silly as plants. Cobyn's having a hard time believing it, but he looks at Sandbag with a soft smile.]
"Gladiolus focuses a lot on strength."
[His voice was a little quieter than usual.]
"That's cool."
Despite its awkward tone, Sandbag actually likes the association quite a bit.
"Although, my gramps always said I had room for improvement on the strength factor."
He doesn't want Cobyn to feel like they're talking to a wall, so he's attempting to be more sharing. Its been trying to be more talkative and open in general, as friends are going to be helpful in Bet and Forgive. (And partially just because it doesn't do well alone.)
"...It talks about strength as a growth thing, too. Strength in character and such!"
[He appreciates it.]
// sorry for such a short reply I'm on break at work
"Oh- that's pretty neat too-"
Hopefully that didn't sound dismissive or anything. Sandbag continues following Cobyn through the main foyer.
// dw twin its ok
[He starts walking towards the bar, clearly happy about Sandbag's engagement with the topic.]
"Do you have any one topic you know a lot about, or do you prefer to know bits and pieces about a lot? I've found most people prefer one or the other!"
"I really like sharks- I know a good bit about them. I doubt you wanna hear me rant about 'em, though."
{Sandbag walks alongside him, silently hoping Cobyn will in fact want to hear it rant about sharks. Because a chance to talk about sharks is a chance to talk about sharks.}
[Cobyn laughs, and it's clear he's getting a lot more comfortable around Sandbag.]
"You just heard me rant about plants, why wouldn't I want to hear? Besides, I always thought they were neat!"
{Sandbag nods and thinks back to his shark knowledge.}
"Well, for starters, they're one of the longest-existing species on earth. Sharks began to live on earth about 450 million years ago, the earliest dinosaurs appeared around 250 million years ago- if my memory serves correctly. The Doliodus problematicus was the first shark to inhabit the waters! Oh- and did you know a shark can regrow an almost infinite amount of teeth? Unlike humans who have strictly two sets of teeth that have a set pace of progression, sharks can just make and regrow theirs at will. It's estimated that a great white shark will go through 2,000 teeth a year!- again, if I remember correctly."
"Oh interesting!"
[He's so focused on Sandbag's every word, taking in the information as much as he can. He hasn't had anyone to share information with like this before, it's nice.]
"Yeah- Oh! And they aren't nearly as hostile towards humans as media portrays them! They're quite sweet creatures! You'd be fine if you swam in shark infested waters! In fact, I have on multiple occasions!- I didn't get to examine them closely, however. Everytime I swim is usually because someone dropped something off the ship by accident and I volunteered to go get it- but still! They're practically just big dogs who live in the water!"
{Sandbag seems very passionate about proving sharks aren't the ferocious beasts you see in JAWS.}
"It really sucks that they're so rare nowadays- I'd love to be able to see more of them when I'm out at sea... which is a lot"
{He's been working out at sea ever since he remembers, spending months on end without sleeping on land. In fact, ships and boats are more familiar to it than normal furniture and houses.}
"Oh, they sound lovely!"
[He thought for a moment.]
"...I don't think I've ever been on a boat."
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Really? Not even once-? ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, I've only been in a car about three times in total, so I guess I don't have much room to speak- ` `
{Sandbag clears his throat.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` They're a lot like... ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...boats. ` `
{The description was very lackluster, but how does one properly explain what a boat is like?}
"I'm certain they are, that sounds right!"
[He hums, thinking.]
"Maybe when this is all over, you could show me what it's like!"
[...Is he hopeful, unaware, or is this just some odd coping mechanism? Actively avoiding the fact that that won't happen, maybe?]
{Whatever it is, Sandbag is acting the same way. Although, its reasons could be entirely different than Cobyn's.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` That'd be nice- ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Although, I don't think my gramps would ever let me take the ship out for non-work-related reasons. I swear he has more emotional attachment to that thing than he does to me- ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` It'd be fun, though- Would definitely like to show you at some point. ` `
"I could always help with work! I may not know exactly what's going on, but I've been told I pick up on things quick!"
[He seems excited about the idea, but the more he thinks about it the quieter he seems to get.]
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` No. I mean- believe me you don't want to- ` `
{Sandbag's response was near instant. It was guarded and defensive. Seems it really doesn't like the idea of Cobyn experiencing what it does. Although, he knows absolutely nothing about what they've been through and done. So maybe he's overreacting a bit.}
[He tilts his head, looking a little dog-esc in his confusion.]
"...Any reason..?"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, uh-... ` `
{Sandbag turns his attention to the bar. The whole reason they were going around was to scout things out, so doing just that wasn't too suspicious. Right? It gestures to one of the decorative nooses.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ... that's definitely a waste of rope. ` `
[He looked at the bartender, and kept his voice low while suggesting this, as he doesn't exactly think it's allowed.]
"Maybe there's a way to take it down? In case you need any for whatever reason."
[He chuckled.]
"I'm just glad they have some flora around, the plants were a nice touch."
[It's unclear whether or not he's taking note of the quick switch of topic, but it's a hard one to miss.]
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` I probably could. I dunno if you can untie a noose, though- ` `
{He keeps his volume down as well when speaking before picking back up the plant discussion. Y'know, just so they didn't look suspicious.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` I suppose it is a bit nice to have plants sprinkled about- Makes it feel less like a prison. Even though that's what this place is supposed to be in the first place- ` `
"Oh I'm certain you can untie one, don't you just have to pull the hoop back through? Might be hard depending on how tight the loopy bits are, but should work!"
[He is not catching the drift of keeping voices down about it. And it sounds like he's talking from experience, but maybe he's just talking in that sort of manner.]
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Good to know, I suppose- ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...any specific reasonyou know that-? ` `
{Well that was blunt. He's still desperately attempting to keep the conversation on the down low. Although, the bartender has probably heard most of the conversation anyways.}
"Nope!"
[...Yeah that's odd.]
"Oh, by the way,"
[So now he understands lowering his voice.]
"The bartender isn't exactly talkative. Me and Poppy tried to get info out of them and they didn't seem to want to talk at all!"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Hopefully they aren't chummy with their coworkers about things they overhear, either. ` `
{Sandbag does a scan over the room. It takes note of the little booth, the pool table, decorative plants, help wanted sign, and such. You have to squint to see some details in the corners and edges of the room due to the low lighting. It was for aesthetic purposes, but might come in handy later if he did indeed need to snag some rope.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Are the drinks any good-? ` `
{It's not much of a drinker, but what else do you discuss in a bar?}
[He seems to realize he definitely should've kept his voice down sooner when Sandbag comments on people possibly overhearing things.]
"...Oh! The one I had was terrible, but there's definitely some that sound good!"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Yikes. I might just not drink while I'm here- Doesn't sound worth it. ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Usually the ones that sound the best are the most disgusting. Well at least from my experience, they are- ` `
{Geez, was that a strong breeze or what? Wait... how would a breeze get down here anyways?}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Jesus fucking christ it's cold- ` `
"I mean, it might be colder in here to encourage drinking a little? Alcohol can make you feel warmer at times!"
[He chuckled.]
"...Should we head back? I'm sure you have some good blankets if that would help!"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Uh- sure. ` `
{It'll just have to check out the shop some other time. His costume really isn't doing him any favors temperature wise. Seriously, did they have to go the sleeveless route??}
[Cobyn cheerily waves goodbye to the bartender as if he and Sandbag did anything but just stand by the door awkwardly, before walking out.]
"You'd think someone used to being at sea would be better with colder temperatures, isn't it rather chilly out there?"
{Sandbag shrugs in a noncommittal manor.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Eh, the weather's usually pretty warm -sometimes humid where I work- I think it was something about being closer to the equator that makes it warmer. Plus I usually wear something warmer when it gets cold out. ` `
{If he's learned anything about Cobyn's character so far, its that he's very nice to strangers for seemingly no reason. Sandbag included, of course. It's an odd thing considering (excluding staff) they're all criminals.}
"Ah, being near the equator makes sense!"
[He paused for a while, thinking about it. His smile fades, only briefly.]
"I think if I don't make it out of here, not being on the ocean as much as I could've would be something I regret. But oh well."
[Cobyn shrugs, and just like that he seems as calm as before.]
{Oh. Yeah. That. The grim reality.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, I mean, being out on the ocean isn't that exciting- ` `
{...}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...well it kinda is. ` `
{Its attempt at reassuring Cobyn that he isn't missing out on much isn't very effective. Even if it doesn't hurt anyone, Sandbag can't lie about how 'boring' the sea life is. He has too much attachment to that lifestyle to say its boring. Even though its just a personal opinion thing.}
"What will-... Would you not regret doing if you don't make it out of here?"
[He asks with a rather calm smile, choosing to ignore how much he's missing out on. He'd prefer to see how Sandbag answers.]
[Odd. It's not a very happy topic, and a little off for someone who prefers to talk of less morbid things, it seems.]
{ Sandbag takes a moment to contemplate. He's done a lot of things in his life. Whats its one thing it doesn't regret? }
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...I wouldn't regret that time I 'accidentally' cut the nets on that whale shark my gramps caught- I was about eight, and got a good whack across the face for it, but still worth it. Would rather that than just watching as it suffocates helplessly. You? ` `
[He thought for a while.]
"I know this sounds odd, but in a way, how little I did at times. I was relaxed quite often, and happy too. It was nice."
[They're nearing Sandbag's room by now. It's clear Cobyn's hesitant to keep talking, but he does.]
"And what would you regret?"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Dedicating too much time to work. Without a question. ` `
{ Maybe that's what earned it the 'underdog' title. Y'know, the fact he has ZERO friends. what a loser }
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ... You got anything you'd regret? ` `
[They had reached Sandbag's room by the time the question was asked, and Cobyn seemed to quickly adapt to the new topic opportunity.]
"Would you like to warm up on your own and get some rest, or-..?"
[He trailed off, not fully sure what the other option would entail.]
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Yeah- Uh- Thanks.. For uh, well, helping me with the burn and showing me around and stuff- Means a lot. ` `
"Of course!"
[He goes for an already mildly awkward pat on the shoulder or arm, but his eyes very clearly flicker to the scarring, and he realizes he isn't exactly sure if Sandbag is comfortable with anything physical, especially on such a scarred area. He nervously lowers his hand, giving an odd thumbs up instead before wandering off.]

{It groans like a whiney child before taking a seat as well. He takes a sip of the tea and grumbles. The tea is actually really good, but Elise won't admit that. Their whole vibe is really pouty-child-esc as of right now, even though the tea is helping. Only a bit, though; Elise is still sniffling a lot.}
"Does that feel any better?"
[He tilts his head, and the sincerity- or at least the look of it -could be more sickening to Elise than the actual illness at this point.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...yeah ` `
{Elise has no idea if it might be poisoned. Getting poisoned by the gardener was literally the last thing on its mind. Surely that wouldn't be of consequence. Right?}
[He tilts his head, a small smile on his face.
{ The cold isn't even that bad. Elise is just a little bitch who doesn't handle any sort of pain very well. }
[He laughed a little at that- the laugh seemed almost forced. Almost.]
"...Was it true, Elise?"
[That's vague.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...was what true?- ` `
{ Oh. Right. Hmmm. It doesn't necessarily need to keep Cobyn in check right now, but it doesn't hurt to. Well, doesn't hurt Elise to, anyways. }

(please note that onpu will not harm any of the characters in anyway related to her role or obsessive behaviour. this is actually onpu being gentle and trying to be nice to the people of the game. this is in no way shipping onpu with poppy as onpu is an adult in this au. she does, however, love her friends. these are other ocs of mine. anyways-)
Onpu loved her friends. She loved them dearly. Why wouldn't she? They were the only ones who didn't mind her staring. The ones who didn't find her teeth scary and didn't find her interests disgusting. The most soothing voices in her moments of distress and injury. The ones who let her bite them, gently that is. The ones who gave her food when she needed it most. The ones she wanted to consume, to keep in her forever. The ones she wanted all to herself. The ones who loved her. The ones she loved. The ones she loved. The ones she loved. The ones she
…
Any-... Any reason?"
in continuation of this post
@lady-cannibal (btw they shot down my old account-)
pls let me know if you're aware of sandonpubyn (Sandbag x Onpu x Colbyn)
Ah, this was going to be awkward. How fun-.
Onpu had talked to Colbyn now, yes. And she learned that he adores flowers and he knows the meaning of nearly everyone. Which is why she felt one of of the gifts was useless but anyways-.
When she found him, she didn't attempt to scare him like she did with Vega, instead opting to lightly shake his shoulder.
"I-uh. I want to give you this"
Onpu said, her tone a little shy. It was quite funny, seeing someone with such an eerie title be so gentle. She handed him the box wrapped in floral-patterned wrapping paper.
This time she actually let him say thank you before leaving, nodding in reply.
THE GIFTS:
The book felt kind of useless in her opinion, after all, Colbyn seemed to know all the plant names and meanings. Oh well, she'd already done it.
[All he said was a slight "oh?", a little too shocked about the whole situation to form an actual response in time before she was leaving. He tried to say a quick thank you as she left, but he was still a pinch hesitant.]
[He sat down, unwrapping everything, and his excitement was obvious. Even for the book, especially for the book, not that it'd teach him anything new but that's not what he had in mind. Annotating, notes about the flowers and how he connects them with others in the game, having a book he can do that in makes everything much easier.]
[He wanted to properly thank her, but she was gone.]
// dw twin its ok
{Sandbag walks alongside him, silently hoping Cobyn will in fact want to hear it rant about sharks. Because a chance to talk about sharks is a chance to talk about sharks.}
[Cobyn laughs, and it's clear he's getting a lot more comfortable around Sandbag.]
"You just heard me rant about plants, why wouldn't I want to hear? Besides, I always thought they were neat!"
{Sandbag nods and thinks back to his shark knowledge.}
{Sandbag seems very passionate about proving sharks aren't the ferocious beasts you see in JAWS.}
"It really sucks that they're so rare nowadays- I'd love to be able to see more of them when I'm out at sea... which is a lot"
{He's been working out at sea ever since he remembers, spending months on end without sleeping on land. In fact, ships and boats are more familiar to it than normal furniture and houses.}
{Sandbag clears his throat.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` They're a lot like... ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...boats. ` `
{The description was very lackluster, but how does one properly explain what a boat is like?}
"I'm certain they are, that sounds right!"
[He hums, thinking.]
"Maybe when this is all over, you could show me what it's like!"
[...Is he hopeful, unaware, or is this just some odd coping mechanism? Actively avoiding the fact that that won't happen, maybe?]
{Whatever it is, Sandbag is acting the same way. Although, its reasons could be entirely different than Cobyn's.}
I mean- believe me you don't want to- ` `
{Sandbag's response was near instant. It was guarded and defensive. Seems it really doesn't like the idea of Cobyn experiencing what it does. Although, he knows absolutely nothing about what they've been through and done. So maybe he's overreacting a bit.}
[He tilts his head, looking a little dog-esc in his confusion.]
"...Any reason..?"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, uh-... ` `
{Sandbag turns his attention to the bar. The whole reason they were going around was to scout things out, so doing just that wasn't too suspicious. Right? It gestures to one of the decorative nooses.}
{He keeps his volume down as well when speaking before picking back up the plant discussion. Y'know, just so they didn't look suspicious.}
{Well that was blunt. He's still desperately attempting to keep the conversation on the down low. Although, the bartender has probably heard most of the conversation anyways.}
{Sandbag does a scan over the room. It takes note of the little booth, the pool table, decorative plants, help wanted sign, and such. You have to squint to see some details in the corners and edges of the room due to the low lighting. It was for aesthetic purposes, but might come in handy later if he did indeed need to snag some rope.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Are the drinks any good-? ` `
{It's not much of a drinker, but what else do you discuss in a bar?}
Well at least from my experience, they are- ` `
{Geez, was that a strong breeze or what? Wait... how would a breeze get down here anyways?}
{It'll just have to check out the shop some other time. His costume really isn't doing him any favors temperature wise. Seriously, did they have to go the sleeveless route??}
[Cobyn cheerily waves goodbye to the bartender as if he and Sandbag did anything but just stand by the door awkwardly, before walking out.]
"You'd think someone used to being at sea would be better with colder temperatures, isn't it rather chilly out there?"
{Sandbag shrugs in a noncommittal manor.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Eh, the weather's usually pretty warm -sometimes humid where I work- I think it was something about being closer to the equator that makes it warmer. Plus I usually wear something warmer when it gets cold out. ` `
{If he's learned anything about Cobyn's character so far, its that he's very nice to strangers for seemingly no reason. Sandbag included, of course. It's an odd thing considering (excluding staff) they're all criminals.}
{Oh. Yeah. That. The grim reality.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, I mean, being out on the ocean isn't that exciting- ` `
{...}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...well it kinda is. ` `
{Its attempt at reassuring Cobyn that he isn't missing out on much isn't very effective. Even if it doesn't hurt anyone, Sandbag can't lie about how 'boring' the sea life is. He has too much attachment to that lifestyle to say its boring. Even though its just a personal opinion thing.}
{ Sandbag takes a moment to contemplate. He's done a lot of things in his life. Whats its one thing it doesn't regret? }
{ Maybe that's what earned it the 'underdog' title. Y'know, the fact he has ZERO friends. what a loser }
Vega had been sitting in the alcove alone for about an hour. It was a nice spot when no one else was there, especially because people could enter her room whenever they wanted and it was quite messy. Besides, no one really drinks before dinner unless it’s Bones. Who was currently busy with other things.
Even though Vega made sure to keep the curtains tightly shut, the reddish light from the main part of the bar still seeped in through the small part that couldn’t be covered. Which annoyed her. Because even though people usually wouldn’t come in, it would still be obvious to tell that she had been crying and panicking over something worthless.
The worst part was, the light was covered by a shadow—showing that someone had been standing right infront of the crack in the curtain. Vega covered her mouth to try to stifle her gasping breaths and occasional whines. She didn’t want Cobyn to catch her crying in a situation like this. Especially because he had just dealt with the glass and it wasn’t his job to help her.
-🔭@paran0idcosmol0gist
[Cobyn wasn't much of a drinker himself, but with the cut on his hand from earlier, he thought getting a small shot of alcohol to make sure it's not infected might be for the best. He wasn't going to bother Cecilia again for medical supplies, so he thought this would work well enough.]
[...But the curtains are never fully shut without reason. From the almost silence of the room, he was curious, and from what sound there was, he was worried. He wasn't sure what he'd see, but he was ready for anything. He lightly tugged the curtain aside, peeking in.]
"...Vega..?"
Vega stared at Cobyn like a deer in headlights. She couldn’t help but let out a small hic before wiping her eyes on her gloved palm before throwing her head back to just enough go over backrest of the seat.
“….go away..”
[Cobyn leans against the wall a little, shoulders slowly lowering from their previous, almost tense position. He looks concerned, and it's genuine. Though, it gives Vega a slight bit of anxiety, as she hasn't seen him have any look that didn't seem genuine. It's more comforting to know someone's signs than just have to assume they're that truthful of a person.]
"...If me being here will make things worse, I will. But I don't know if I should go."
[His voice is gentle. Soft, but still sturdy. He doesn't want Vega to go through whatever this is alone.]
”…really… I’m fine—I just.. needed some space.”
Her voice cracked involuntarily trying not to let out any more trembles or tears at the moment. It was embarrassing to cry, much less infront of other people, but to add the cherry ontop, they were on a death game. Cobyn could be faking his kindness just to use it against her later—crying wasn’t a good choice at all.
[Cobyn stood there for a moment. He wasn't staring, his eyes drifting to the side in thought.]
"That's reasonable, things have been a lot lately."
[He paused again, and it looked like for a moment, maybe he would leave.]
"I don't want to leave you alone."
[Shit.]
Vega sniffled and shifted so his legs were pressed up against his chest. And so Cobyn had enough room to sit next to them if he really wanted to. Although the action was reluctant, she didn’t seem like she wanted to be seen as rude. But she did want to refuse the comfort from Cobyn anyway
[Cobyn didn't want to make her uncomfortable. He hesitated, but he sat down. Worst case scenario he can leave, but it's more difficult for him to come back later if he walks away now.]
[He doesn't get the shot to clean his wound, but he doesn't seem to be thinking about it at all anymore. He sits next to him, fidgeting with the edge of his apron.]
She gently sniffled and groaned while trying to glance back up at Cobyn without trying to feel pathetic and vulnerable. She came to the bar so people couldn’t look for her — even though it wasn’t the best, Cobyn was the last person who would technically be here. She couldn’t help but let out another involuntary sob, taking a few minutes before she could even ask the simplest question ever.
“..why are you here..?”
[Cobyn was patient the entire time. He didn't stare, but not in the way where he didn't acknowledge them, more in a way where he's simply existing near them. Not waiting for anything, not expecting anything, just being present.]
[He glanced toward his hand, just a small flick of his eyes before deciding he doesn't need to mention it. Vega will probably shift focus onto it.]
"Just wandering! Things get rather boring when not exploring with you-"
[He smiled, but it slowly faded with the still tense air.]
"-and Poppy's asleep...You?"
Vega looked away from him and just got slightly tenser. It’s not that she didn’t want to answer Cobyn’s question, it’s just that she felt like it should’ve been obvious. Usually seeing people crying means… seeing people crying, and there usually wasn’t much to it either.
“… I just wanted somewhere where someone wouldn’t find me.”
[Cobyn got more tense too, but tried to laugh it off a little.]
"Right- uh... Apologies...."
[He paused for a while. He didn't want to ask much, as Vega might not be comfortable with that, and if he asks what he can do to help Vega might just tell him to leave, so he's not sure what to do... That is, until he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small flower he found, that he knows for a fact will not be helpful but might just help at least lift the tension a little..?]
"I found this! It's a pretty one, yarrow. But visually nothing too special."
Vega’s expression slightly softened. He wasn’t really expecting to feel so much better because of some scrawny little pocket flower, but he just did.
Vega reached out to it without really thinking much of it.
[Cobyn smiled at that reaction. He'll admit, it was much more positive than he expected from Vega at the current moment. He expected more ignoring it.]
"Yarrows focus a lot on healing and courage, sometimes specifically on healing a broken heart, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what you have. I sure hope not! It's also highly connected to the story of Achilles!"
[...He's hoping a distraction will help Vega for a moment.]
She gently tapped on the small, white petals while listening to Cobyn talk. It felt a bit too similar to what she was going through to be some sort of coincidence, but it was the only logical explanation when she never actually told alone about what happened, especially Cobyn. How was he supposed to know about Vega’s past relationship? How was he supposed to know that yarrow represented what she needed?
“..oh.. that’s cool..”
[Cobyn noticed he had a small reaction to their words, and he decided to keep going a little.]
"...In some versions it was said that the yarrows helped in making Achilles invincible..? His body, at least."
[He brought one leg up onto the seat, so he could turn and face Vega a bit better, leaning against the back wall.]
"Couldn't be hurt after that, as the story goes. It's a nice one, isn't it Vega?"
”…yeah. It is.”
She murmured starting to roll the plant in between her fingers. She didn’t mind listening to Cobyn talk about all of the things that yarrow could represent, but she didn’t know how to reply.
she leaned back on the opposite wall, still observing the plant that Cobyn apparently found somewhere.
[He tapped his fingers against his knee, thinking for a moment.]
"Ooh, Vega, question! If you could get Achilles-esc dipped into something that made you invincible, but the one spot that remained vulnerable was vulnerable enough to kill you, would you do it?... Does that make sense..?"
”..no, I wouldn’t.. what about you though?”
Vega didn’t like the sound of being invincible. Especially in a situation like this where she didn’t have much to go home to if she won. But the question did make sense atleast.
[Cobyn seemed a little surprised that Vega wouldn't.]
[He thought about it for a long time, despite it being a question he considers a lot. He never quite has an answer prepared.]
"...No. No, I don't think I would either. I enjoy being vulnerable with people, I think. But not all at once. And if only one part of my body could kill me, then that's it. You know?"
She nodded after listening to Cobyn’s response. She didn’t really know what to say after, but she did want to ask about how he feels vulnerable with people. Especially because it felt so suspicious and anyone could do anything while you’re vulnerable..
“..yeah. That makes sense.”
[He smiled, happy he was able to word it in a cohesive way, but a sudden grin wasn't exactly easing Vega's worries.]
[It fades slowly, as there's another odd pause in conversation.]
"...Are you-... Scared, Vega..? Sorry, that's a bad question- you-.... Probably don't want to answer if yes."
She paused and didn’t look up, but her focus shifted to her feet instead.
“ I don’t know.. I was just kind of thinking what I’ll even do if I get out of here — the only thing I have to do is finish university and that just reminded me of my old partner.”
[He hummed, thinking about it.]
"...You can see the stars really well from my farm..?"
[He paused again.]
"...Do you wanna talk about your old partner?"
Vega didn’t really respond to the first part. Seeing the stars clearly felt nice, but he wasn’t too fond of farms and stars were only clear at night.
“… I don’t know…they were just — I didn’t get to see them much.”
[He fidgeting with his apron, nearly wringing the corner.]
"...That-... Makes sense, I suppose. Due to being arrested, right?"
Vega shook her head.
“We broke up before I got arrested, but even during our relationship he was always out somewhere. As for when he was home, he mostly stayed in the living room while I stayed in our room.”
[Cobyn stared at Vega as he listened, looking more and more confused as they shared more information.]
"...And you-... Do you miss him?"
Vega hesitated. He knew that he should be moving on and living while he had the chance, but the thought of their old partner made things much harder.
“..yeah. I guess I do.”
[Cobyn let out a small sigh, lifting his hands away from his definitely more crumpled apron corner (a pinch of blood smeared in the mess with it, but he doesn't seem to notice), putting a hand towards Vega.]
[He hesitated. It seems to be a reoccurring thing with Cobyn, his pauses and breaks and thinking about his words when the topic becomes more personal.]
"...Do I have permission to say something possibly rude?"
Vega looked back. She knew that she got insulted easily, but what could Cobyn have to say that she didn’t already know? That she needs to move on and that she’s being pathetic? That it wasn’t really a reason to cry?
“Go ahead.”
"He doesn't sound like someone worth missing."
[...It wasn't about Vega in the slightest.]
"I'm sure there was good to him, but being that distant isn't good, and typically stems from other problems as well."
[It was an actively pro Vega statement.]
"Ha, stems from- Just-..."
[He did a sharper sigh this time to get himself back on track.]
"It's fair to be sad about it, I'm sure you saw something in him, after all you did date him, but I'm certain there's better for you out there, Vega! I think you deserve better than that."
She wasn’t really expecting that which caused her eyes to widen. She wasn’t really the one who thought that she deserved better, she just thought he deserved better. But maybe Cobyn was right about some things.
“It also isn’t his fault though — I was also at university a lot so it was kind of my fault too..”
She murmured trying to defend someone that Cobyn didn’t know and who wasn’t even there.
"University's a good reason to be busy. Did he have a good reason to be distant?"
[He had a slight smile as he spoke, and Vega couldn't quite tell why.]
Vega began to fidget with her fingers subconsciously before answering the question.
“He never told me. I always thought he was cheating on me but I really wouldn’t be surprised if he was at a club the whole time.”
[He smiled more, and Vega's best guess is he knew his point was going to be proven. Cobyn can be oddly cold when discussing people he dislikes or doesn't agree with, it seems. But the smile wasn't malicious, it wasn't an "I told you so", it was still calm and he still appeared comforting, more of a silly thing.]
"There you have it. It wasn't you, or even a mutual problem, it was him. And you deserve better."
× 、: ☆・" but I don’t know for sure! It’s just an accusation so don’t take it to heart..! "
Vega noticed a stupid smile on his face. Well, not stupid, but smug. Which was friendly and she didn’t think too much about, but it still felt wrong the Cobyn was basically proven right on something that also wasn’t technically true.
"I never said he did cheat or was at a club, but he still didn't communicate. That's a big part of the problem, Vega! Even if the accusation is wrong, I do think he's still in the wrong."
[He shrugged, humming. The smile remained.]
Vega didn’t really know what to say anymore. She hated being wrong and being told something that was against what she thought with proof didn’t really help. She didn’t want to say too much about what actually happened, but Cobyn was a convicted criminal, despite being… happy and all, he could be some sort of manipulator too.
× 、: ☆・" I just want to move on so I won’t think of him when I’m with Maneki and Bones.. or I won’t have to go because I still miss him.. and I don’t want to accuse them of something they didn’t do but he did. "
Vega finally said through gritted teeth and hesitance. She still didn’t want to call the two their partners, but if she was that concerned about hurting a relationship she claims on not having then they might as well be dating.
[He seems to take a moment to process the fact that those three are together. He's very out of the loop, it seems.]
"...Well, you don't have to jump straight to accusations! If they're doing something odd or something that reminds you of a bad thing he did, communicate that! Calmly explaining one's feelings and thought process can really help relationships, I don't know why people don't do it more often."
"...And I didn't know you three were together! That's nice."
Vega nodded listening to his advice. It wouldn’t be a terrible idea to communicate, especially because Bones and her had argued a lot, so maybe Cobyn wouldn’t be completely wrong about all of it.
× 、: ☆・" It’s just a situationship. "
"Ohhhh."
[Does that-... Make more sense? He's nodding like it does.]
"Those are always odd!"
[Has Cobyn of all people been in one before?]
"I hope you three have fun!"
[Minimum two of them are probably going to die.]
× 、: ☆・" thanks, Cobyn. "
He probably didn’t think that saying it was a situationship was any better than a relationship. But when it came to Vega, she’d say anything to get out of things that could be used against her, even though she was open to talking with Cobyn in the first place, she still had her regrets.
it was probably better not to mention that she knew that either her or her partners would die, so it was kind of hard to have fun knowing that. At least they were alive.. now? At least they had a chance to talk to eachother a bit?
"Of course!"
[He nodded, then slowly glanced down. He somehow still had that cut from the glass- alcohol, he was here for alcohol, he remembers now. Alcohol disinfect it. If the cut was only from the glass and he didn't accidentally fuck it up further the moment he was alone, it probably would've closed by now and he didn't have to bunch his apron up in his hand for half of this conversation.]
Vega followed his gaze and noticed that the cut was still open, and now there was a bit of blood on Cobyn’s apron. She couldn’t help but feel slightly concerned because the cut should’ve been closed and she had put bandages over it, so it shouldn’t have been bleeding either.
× 、: ☆・" where’d you get that? Surely it isn’t from the glass, right? "
[Cobyn gets tense.]
"Started from the glass- it- part of it is from the glass"
[He wraps it in the apron corner as if that'll get rid of it.]
"How're you feeling?"
Vega noticed the way Cobyn got tense, which wasn’t really something that normal considering it was Cobyn. Not that he wasn’t allowed to or anything, it was just shocking. But if he didn’t want to talk about it, she wouldn’t force him. Although, she did get rather curious about what could add to the cut that much.
× 、: ☆・" a bit better, but you’re deflecting— I won’t force you to talk or anything, but you don’t have to shift the conversation onto my problems. "
[He's silent for a moment, staring at his bloody apron.]
[He chuckles.]
"...The look of this is definitely not going to help people trust me. You remember when you got your jacket replaced, Vega? Maybe they can do that for my apron."
Vega nodded. She did think that it would be a bit easy to say that his finger was cut when someone would look at his apron funny, or ask what happened, but Cobyn did have a point. People don’t really trust people with blood on them. Especially not without the knowledge of if it’s his blood or not. But at the mention of her coat being replaced moments before the show went live, she put her hand up to her chest without a second thought.
× 、: ☆・" I didn’t think that anyone saw that… "
Her murmured response sounded more like she was guilty after being accused of something. Even though it was really just a simple rhetorical question used as an example.
× 、: ☆・" you could probably find one in the dressing room if they won’t give you one. "
"Good point!... And it's probably not a big deal that anyone noticed, Vega! It's alright!"
[He smiled quite a bit, which was odd regarding how tense he still was.]
"...Would you want to come with me? I could also just go later..."
It didn’t take long for Vega to still notice that Cobyn hadn’t gotten any less tense. She still knitted her eyebrows together while glancing to the side without turning her bed, but she did decide to wipe off the tear stains off of her glasses and wiped her eyes a bit more.
× 、: ☆・" sure. "
It wasn’t much of response, but she didn’t really know what else to say as she didn’t mind taking a walk with Cobyn. Although he wasn’t a terrible person, she still had to keep an eye on him just in case he decided to tell anyone about her situationship or that she was sobbing her eyes out for no reason earlier.
[He didn't seem to know he was being slightly surveilled, hopping up rather energetically despite the circumstances and his clearly off mood.]
"Lovely! Let's get going then."
[He had no intentions to tell anyone. The thought hadn't crossed his mind, but it was reasonable to think. Even if he wasn't planning on doing it for strategy reasons, maybe he's just enough of an open book to share others secrets too. It's a stressful thought.]
Vega stood up quickly and shifted the curtains to the side to show an opening to the main part of the bar. Rather than helping Cobyn get up, she didn’t even offer her hand out. Although it wasn’t something uncommon with Vega, it was somewhat weird.
The person was never too fond of the dressing room. She planned to stand in the doorway while Cobyn tried to find another apron rather than helping out, but if he did need help, she would go in. But that’s the only exception. Surely, Cobyn wouldn’t mind. Right?
[Cobyn was clearly paranoid the entire walk there. Bunching up the bloody part of his apron, eyes darting around a little instead of his usual calm demeanor, but he tried to remain as energetic as always.]
[He steps into the dressing room, clearly getting confused when Vega doesn't follow. He looks at him, not verbally asking why she had stopped, more implying the question.]
She awkwardly stared back with her jaw clenched. She kept continually trying to figure out what Cobyn wanted from her considering the he wasn’t looking for a new apron and just looking at him without reason.
× 、: ☆・ " are you going to look for your apron? "
[Ah, it's a stupid thing to ask anyway, huh? Not even a big room, it's reasonable to stay near the door- it's not like she's planning anything. It doesn't lock, does it- what is he thinking? He has no reason to not trust Vega, it's fine.]
[He chuckles awkwardly.]
"Right, yeah! My apron!"
[He looks around, accidentally getting some blood on another clothing item or two and pulling away almost cartoonishly each time, before finding a replacement apron.]
Vega watched as Cobyn started to tie the replacement apron around his waist before slowly backing away from the door anyway. They had no intention to lock the door and beat him to death, or trap him in there. But it seemed that they didn’t exactly like the dressing room considering how convinced they were that there was a secret room behind the mirror. Perhaps it was another case of that?
[He seems calmer- he wouldn't think of Vega as the type to do such things, it's fine, he's fine. He knows that.]
[...But he still recognizes the behavior as odd.]
"...Is everything alright, Vega?"
Vega only kept staring at Cobyn who was starting to replace his apron. They weren’t really paying much attention to any of Cobyn’s actions, but they noticed the slightly uneasy mood radiating off of him.
× 、: ☆・" yeah. I could be asking you that though. You keep staring at me and not the way you usually do. "
[His voice remained a bit soft as he spoke, but he gasped after processing her words.]
"I don't stare!"
[He laughed a little, and it was hard to tell how forced it was. Surely not entirely forced, he wouldn't do that, but there's no way it was all that genuine either.]
"I just noticed you were being odd about the dressing room, I got worried."
[He started walking out, new, bloodless apron secured around his waist.]
Vega made sure to shift slightly to the side so Cobyn could exit and she could close the door behind him. Seeing them exit made her close the door with a soft ‘click’ before beginning to trail beside him.
× 、: ☆・" well I assure you that I’m fine. "
"I'm glad you're fine, Vega!"
[He started walking, and it was unclear if it was in any particular direction, or simply walking for the sake of it.]
"...You are fine, right?"
[It's clear he doesn't mean just now. Not just with the room, but overall. With everything before, everything about the situation, all of it. The amount of concern in his voice made Vega think for a moment, just how not fit for his surroundings Cobyn seems. He's so quick to worry, it would be all too easy to use it against him.]

{It groans like a whiney child before taking a seat as well. He takes a sip of the tea and grumbles. The tea is actually really good, but Elise won't admit that. Their whole vibe is really pouty-child-esc as of right now, even though the tea is helping. Only a bit, though; Elise is still sniffling a lot.}
"Does that feel any better?"
[He tilts his head, and the sincerity- or at least the look of it -could be more sickening to Elise than the actual illness at this point.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...yeah ` `
{Elise has no idea if it might be poisoned. Getting poisoned by the gardener was literally the last thing on its mind. Surely that wouldn't be of consequence. Right?}
[He tilts his head, a small smile on his face.
{ The cold isn't even that bad. Elise is just a little bitch who doesn't handle any sort of pain very well. }
[He laughed a little at that- the laugh seemed almost forced. Almost.]
"...Was it true, Elise?"
[That's vague.]
// dw twin its ok
{Sandbag walks alongside him, silently hoping Cobyn will in fact want to hear it rant about sharks. Because a chance to talk about sharks is a chance to talk about sharks.}
[Cobyn laughs, and it's clear he's getting a lot more comfortable around Sandbag.]
"You just heard me rant about plants, why wouldn't I want to hear? Besides, I always thought they were neat!"
{Sandbag nods and thinks back to his shark knowledge.}
{Sandbag seems very passionate about proving sharks aren't the ferocious beasts you see in JAWS.}
"It really sucks that they're so rare nowadays- I'd love to be able to see more of them when I'm out at sea... which is a lot"
{He's been working out at sea ever since he remembers, spending months on end without sleeping on land. In fact, ships and boats are more familiar to it than normal furniture and houses.}
{Sandbag clears his throat.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` They're a lot like... ` `
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...boats. ` `
{The description was very lackluster, but how does one properly explain what a boat is like?}
"I'm certain they are, that sounds right!"
[He hums, thinking.]
"Maybe when this is all over, you could show me what it's like!"
[...Is he hopeful, unaware, or is this just some odd coping mechanism? Actively avoiding the fact that that won't happen, maybe?]
{Whatever it is, Sandbag is acting the same way. Although, its reasons could be entirely different than Cobyn's.}
I mean- believe me you don't want to- ` `
{Sandbag's response was near instant. It was guarded and defensive. Seems it really doesn't like the idea of Cobyn experiencing what it does. Although, he knows absolutely nothing about what they've been through and done. So maybe he's overreacting a bit.}
[He tilts his head, looking a little dog-esc in his confusion.]
"...Any reason..?"
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, uh-... ` `
{Sandbag turns his attention to the bar. The whole reason they were going around was to scout things out, so doing just that wasn't too suspicious. Right? It gestures to one of the decorative nooses.}
{He keeps his volume down as well when speaking before picking back up the plant discussion. Y'know, just so they didn't look suspicious.}
{Well that was blunt. He's still desperately attempting to keep the conversation on the down low. Although, the bartender has probably heard most of the conversation anyways.}
{Sandbag does a scan over the room. It takes note of the little booth, the pool table, decorative plants, help wanted sign, and such. You have to squint to see some details in the corners and edges of the room due to the low lighting. It was for aesthetic purposes, but might come in handy later if he did indeed need to snag some rope.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Are the drinks any good-? ` `
{It's not much of a drinker, but what else do you discuss in a bar?}
Well at least from my experience, they are- ` `
{Geez, was that a strong breeze or what? Wait... how would a breeze get down here anyways?}
{It'll just have to check out the shop some other time. His costume really isn't doing him any favors temperature wise. Seriously, did they have to go the sleeveless route??}
[Cobyn cheerily waves goodbye to the bartender as if he and Sandbag did anything but just stand by the door awkwardly, before walking out.]
"You'd think someone used to being at sea would be better with colder temperatures, isn't it rather chilly out there?"
{Sandbag shrugs in a noncommittal manor.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Eh, the weather's usually pretty warm -sometimes humid where I work- I think it was something about being closer to the equator that makes it warmer. Plus I usually wear something warmer when it gets cold out. ` `
{If he's learned anything about Cobyn's character so far, its that he's very nice to strangers for seemingly no reason. Sandbag included, of course. It's an odd thing considering (excluding staff) they're all criminals.}
{Oh. Yeah. That. The grim reality.}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` Well, I mean, being out on the ocean isn't that exciting- ` `
{...}
✛ᬊ ོ∘ ` ` ...well it kinda is. ` `
{Its attempt at reassuring Cobyn that he isn't missing out on much isn't very effective. Even if it doesn't hurt anyone, Sandbag can't lie about how 'boring' the sea life is. He has too much attachment to that lifestyle to say its boring. Even though its just a personal opinion thing.}
{ Sandbag takes a moment to contemplate. He's done a lot of things in his life. Whats its one thing it doesn't regret? }
Boop! Boop! Boop! Boop!
— The Booper™️
[He laughs]
"Well that's odd, any reason for the behavior?"
@bnnyorgans Alas, the dearest Lady Onpu has seen caught for her crimes. When given the option between a death penalty and a game show, the cat in her had a fucking DEATH WISH and chose the game show. (yayayayaya, oc au~) Lady Cannibal (idk, her outfit is a blend of guro lolita and gothic lolita) ─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ─── If there's one thing Onpu liked, it was soothing voices. Soothing tones, soothing words, they kept her at ease (and basically helped her sleep) But when you have name like 'Lady Cannibal', then you're practically setting yourself up for lots of yelling and disgust. ... I don't get it. I've never gotten it. No one has ever explained to me just how to stop this hunger, why it feels so good yet so grotesque at the same time. I don't understand, I'll never understand.. (it's in the morning, i can't write proper angst right now TvT) ─── ⋆⋅ ♰ ⋅⋆ ─── Onpu's gloved hands fiddled with the fake plant's leaves out of both boredom and curiosity. Curiosity. That's what got her into a lot of problems. "Hmn.." She shifted a bit at the uncomfortable emptiness in her stomach. Hunger. She was hungry again. Too bad this was a fake plant, and too bad she couldn't eat anyone. She tried biting her wrists, but that damn shock bracelet was in the way
[Cobyn didn't seem entirely hesitant to approach her, but the title definitely doesn't calm his nerves. He walks up, hands clasped, tilting is head as he watches her fiddle with the plant.]
"...It's a monstera!... Well- based off a monstera, it's a fake plant-"
[He cut himself off with awkward laughter, clearly due to his own awkwardness and tense behavior, he wants out of this interaction nearly the moment it began.]

{It groans like a whiney child before taking a seat as well. He takes a sip of the tea and grumbles. The tea is actually really good, but Elise won't admit that. Their whole vibe is really pouty-child-esc as of right now, even though the tea is helping. Only a bit, though; Elise is still sniffling a lot.}
"Does that feel any better?"
[He tilts his head, and the sincerity- or at least the look of it -could be more sickening to Elise than the actual illness at this point.]
ིྀᨶ႒ᩚ∘˚ ` ` ...yeah ` `
{Elise has no idea if it might be poisoned. Getting poisoned by the gardener was literally the last thing on its mind. Surely that wouldn't be of consequence. Right?}
[He tilts his head, a small smile on his face. He looks content and calm. It's not a teasing smile at least, despite his next words.]
"You know, I really didn't expect you to let me help you."
