“my speciality,” and one of her least favorite forms of her own art, but that was neither here nor there. she smiled very kindly at the other regardless, graciously taking payment and motioning for fleur to take her seat across from her before she held out her own hand, palm upwards, an offer for her to lay her own into it. “let’s see what the fates have in store for you, my dear.” 

“Ah, I’m hoping I can get as many of us together as possible! But I don’t doubt some of the family will be partying later into the night than I can manage these days,” said Arthur with a wry smile. “Hard to deny them that.” Ron and Ginny hadn’t had as much of a childhood as they were owed. “What about you, any plans?”

“Rent? Je ne sais pas? I don’t think I’ve heard that word before…” she teased, pretending to think about it. “Maman and Papa are boring, Fleur. They probably relish in the quite house… When was the last time you saw them, hm?” 

Dudley could say something rude, and it was his childhood instinct to do so: something along the lines of HOW COULD YOU NOT BE ONE FOR QUIDDITCH AFTER THAT MATCH?, but maturity is a blessing more often than it is a curse. “Hell yeah.” He simply agreed, leaning back with his elbows on the table behind him. “They kicked it out the fuckin’ park today, huh?”

“trust me, mrs weasley-” there was a certain disdain attached to the name, but not to the individual. narcissa didn’t know FLEUR well enough to pass judgement on her - just her taste in men. “regardless of the supporters, these events always draw utter chaos. whether it’ll stay fun is another question altogether.” 

they laugh, a loud, joyful sound as they hug fleur back, arms tight around her. “not my fault you make it more and more charming between visits,” it REALLY is. charlie’s flat feels void and cold in comparison to the pleasant warmth of shell cottage and all it’s small personal touches. when he’s released by fleur, charlie tucks his boots out of the way and follows fleur further into the home, sitting when directed to. “of course,” they repeat with another chuckle, “i doubt he’s got such good taste.” it’s friendly ribbing, of course, even if bill isn’t here to hear it. “sure, so long as it wouldn’t be any trouble. how d’you decide what kind of thing to use? for decorating. mine is pretty desolate next to here.”

although caught off guard by the sudden collision, oliver managed to maintain his footing, simply taking a step back as he allowed a smile to appear across his face. “don’t worry about it,” he responded with a laugh, “i hardly felt a thing,” he continued. it was the truth, as a quidditch player he was quite used to being hit with quaffles and bludgers traveling at great speeds, this was merely a small bump. “it’s nice to see you fleur, though you know if you wanted to see me you could just ask. you didn’t need to go out of your way to bump into me in a crowd,” he teased.

“Oh, that’s too bad,” said Arthur genuinely. “They’re lucky to have you, though.” When she spoke about things changing, he frowned as well and shook his head. “That’s how I’ve felt as well. But I have to believe it won’t be what it was last time. We should be careful, but there’s no reason to lose our heads or to stop having fun altogether.” He gestured around. “We need days like this, too.”

“That and her beignets… Her most powerful aspects,” she teased. Gabrielle pretended to act coy, shrugging a shoulder, “Maybe I was. Still way too long! You should just be happy I haven’t permanently moved in.” It was a good idea, from time to time she felt just a little bit lost without her sister down the hall. But as she grew older, Gabrielle knew it was better to navigate the world more by herself. “You better be teasing, or you would expect a lot more midnight visits from yours truly.” 

“Maman wouldn’t say anything, shed just stare deep into my soul and make me apologize about five times,” Gabrielle giggled, pulling her mostly melted ice cream closer to herself. “Merci, ma coccinelle. How are you? I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve seen you.” Which wasn’t quite true. Gabrielle was just at Shell Cottage the week before, but that felt like way too long for her.
