[ bee, 22, est, they/them ]
the world has been a WARZONEÂ for as long as charlie can remember. faint memories of dead uncles haunt him from their pictures on the wall of the burrow, and charlie cannot shake them no matter how hard he tries. uncle gideon and uncle fabian were DEADÂ and charlie realized, far too young, that the world can be cruel and unfair.
a rambunctious child, one of racing up and down the stairs after their brothers - more and more as time wore on - and getting into all sorts of trouble. A HANDFUL, some might say. BRIGHT, others could claim, with sparkling eyes and a devil-may-care attitude. charlie being sorted into gryffindor after hogwarts letter dutifully came was far from a SURPRISEÂ - they suited red and gold.
never-ending energy mellowed into something less WILDÂ and more COOLÂ as charlie grew up. he took to care of magical creatures like a fish to water, a natural with all manner of beast and being. other grades were only middling, sure, but charlie was full of grins & life, becoming gryffindorâs seeker & quidditch captain as well as a prefect as time blew past at hogwarts.
perhaps his favorite part of school was sneaking into the forbidden forest. it was FORBIDDEN, of course - itâs in the name - and dangerous, and charlie loved it. they slid among the trees and watched in interest as things large and amazing lived. he met some centaurs and managed to befriend a handful with his charm and kind curiosity rather than fear. those nighttime sojourns among twisted trees is something he still hasnât told many about; younger siblings for fear of them venturing in, older & parents for fear of getting a many years delayed scolding for putting his life in danger so brazenly.
MOVING AWAY hadnât really been a plan, so much as a NEED. years of care of magical creatures had fostered in charlie a deep interest and - frankly - love for dragons. there arenât many dragons in england; not many cared for well, at least. he was OFFERED a position on the montrosee magpies right out of school and turned it down for a countering opportunity to work on the ROMANIAN DRAGON SANCTUARY.Â
the sanctuary is a second home for charlie. there are only a certain number of people in the world with the right disposition to handle being NEARLY KILLED on the regular and love it, so they became extremely close with the other dragonologists and apprentices on the reserve rather quickly. the stories charlie tells of them are just as fond as the ones told about little siblings.
the WAR NEVER ENDED. not really. charlie wasnât surprised when it began stirring again after the ill-fated triwizard tournament ( he wonders, sometimes, if he had been able to stay beyond the first task, would he have been able to change anything? ). while the ORDER OF THE PHOENIX was stationed in england, this war would estend its bony claws throughout the world - charlie knew that much, so he joined the order & began recruiting wizards in romania to the cause.
after bill & fleurâs DEBACLE OF A WEDDING, charlie returned to romania and the sanctuary. not being there for their family was hard, but they knew that keeping the dragons SAFE - keeping them away from dark wizards - was just as important. merlin knows what voldemort would do with a dragon.
returned to england for the battle of hogwarts hours after the battle began, with a legion of foreign wizards with him. returned too late. fred was already DEAD by the time he got there ( another regret, another what-if, another i could have changed things ).
AFTER THE WAR? immediately, charlie returned to the sanctuary and remained there for several years, coming home only rarely in those first years. guilt ate at the pit of their stomach, churning, devouring. if theyâd shown up a handful of hours earlier. if theyâd been there sooner, fred might still be here. might still be alive.
it takes one of his friends at the sanctuary, after THREE YEARSÂ of only going home for christmas, knocking some sense into charlie for him to realize that hiding wouldnât make it better. PETRAÂ is a terrifying person when she wants to be, and charlie started making more and more frequent trips home after she told him off. she also gave him the name of a muggle therapist & a wizard mindhealer. charlie went to both. they still see them.
splits time between england & romania now, and has for two and a half years. charlie has a flat in muggle london as well as his cabin on the sanctuary and has portkeys to and from for quick travel between the two as needed. itâs better this way - they feel the hollow guilt of not BEING THERE, both during the war and in the years following, but itâs less like a blade and more like an ache, now. HEALING IS A PROCESSÂ - at least thatâs what ojala, their therapist, says. charlie likes to think theyâre making progress. maybe thatâs good enough. maybe that will HAVEÂ to be good enough.

âOh, fuck. You have to be fucking kidding, motherfucker.â They donât swear in public very often, hardly at all really. Kazâs patience was running thin today and the line between surviving and wanting to have a breakdown in a storage closet was thin. Apparently thin enough that when their papers fell and the coffee fell not too long after, it was just enough. They finds someone just nearby to them, who unfortunately just watched. âHello, - uh, - what spells clean upâŚall this?â
charlie is halted mid-stride by the sudden question - they hadnât really planned to stop and observe the disaster that has unfolded here, figuring that they would be able to fix it on their own easily enough. still ; not like charlie plans on acting like the question wasnât heard. the sight of coffee-soaked paper has them wincing. âto tell you the truth, cleaning charmsâve never been my strongest, uh, specialty,â they admit wofully, âbut scourgify might help?â
Sheâs somewhat relieved they arenât the kind of person who finds the gesture from her cat bothersome. Sheâs crouched down low, Onyx making the effort to stay in close proximity to the stranger in front of her. âOh, sure. Just donât steal him,â she jokes offering him up, Onyx letting out a small meow as he looks up at the stranger. âHis nameâs Onyx.âÂ
charlie loves cats. theyâve been considering finding one of their own - it feels a little SILLY for some reason, as though it would make up for the barebones decorations of their flat if there was a cat asleep on the throw blanket draped over the arm of the sofa, but still. they pick up the little cat with careful hands and cradle him in their arms, giving a little scratch behind the ears and on the cheek. âfitting name,â charlie smiles, looking from the cat to the owner, âi donât think weâve met? charlie weasley. iâd shake your hand, but,â they hold onyx up a little higher for a moment to demonstrate that both hands are well and truly full.
Sophie had brought Onyx with her to the pet store, her small well mannered black cat trailing behind her as she walked into the store. She often liked to do her shopping with him, her cat being very vocal about his needs. This time was no different, the girl browsing through the aisles. After stocking up on food for Onyx, she thought she would stop at the treat section. She stares at the different treat packets in her hands. âAlright, which one is it Onyx? Mackerel or turkey with valerian root?â She looks to Onyx but finds he has moved from the spot beside her. She spins looking for her companion and only stops when she spots the black feline rubbing against someone elseâs leg, meowing and purring before he gets up on his hind legs, trying to climb up the strangerâs leg. âI am so sorry⌠my catâs a fucking slag.â Sophie rushes to their side, pulling at her cat as he meows aggressively.Â
theyâve always been an animal lover. ever since charlie was little and trying to cart all manner of beast into the burrow - squirrel, mouse, cat or dog - theyâve been near a magnet for all sorts of creature. THIS isnât a surprise, then, and they lean down to scratch behind the black catâs ear with a grin. âno worries,â they say easily, shaking their head. âtheyâre cute. can i,â they motion as if picking up the cat who is meowing now as she tries to detach the claws from charlieâs pant leg.
âI know they have,â Josie says, keeping her voice low, âBut this one seems especially boring.â Perhaps she was just trying to make herself feel better â by imagining her position as an ADMINISTRATOR as something far more interesting and exciting than it really was, and this presentation only served as a STARK reminder of the REALITY â that her work wasnât what she really wanted to be doing with her life, but that it was safe and stable and kept a roof over her head, while anything else would be UNCERTAIN. âI donât think I can stand to listen to it anymore, to tell you the truth.â
âwant to dip out?â they tilt a head towards the back - they arenât meant to WANDER, but charlie doubts anyone would even note the pair slipping out the door for a minute. âiâve got something a bit stronger than what theyâre giving us if you wanna,â with that they slip a flask from a pocket for just a second so that she can see before offering an impish sort of grin. âdrown your sorrows?â charlie is not PLEASED to be here ; has never met a gala they liked, really, and would take near any excuse to escape - even for a moment - from the droning voices and self-important heads of departments.

á´ĄĘá´ : josephine diggory & open ( @startertmsâ )
á´ĄĘá´Ęá´ : main atrium, ministry of magic
á´ĄĘá´É´ : august 18, 2021 â seventh annual ministry gala
Large gatherings had never exactly been Josieâs forte â in fact, she would be far more comfortable right now back in her own apartment ( preferably in her room, away from even the prying eyes of her roommates ) with a book and a cup of tea. In fact, were it not practically a requirement for her to be there ( her boss had sat their team down earlier in the week, outlining the importance of their departmentâs representation at the gala, and the necessity of consequences for those who perhaps thought they didnât need to be in attendance ).Â
So, as she had done in previous years, Josie made the effort of attending the seventh annual gala â though it became immediately apparent that there was something off about this yearâs festivities. Though she was sat with her colleagues, a quick scan of the room revealed her Dumbledoreâs Army peers to be tucked away at the back of the room â Josie needing to crane her neck to see them. Perhaps she should have been offended by the display, but after the havoc theyâd caused at Christmastime ( which Jo had, of course, been quite incapacitated during, the sting of betrayal by one of their own still sharp and fresh, mistrust always lurking just beneath the surface since the incident ), it seemed like a predictable retaliation â if not in exceptionally poor taste.Â
Still, it hardly seemed to be Josieâs place to question the tension that seemed to run thickly through the room â instead going about her night with a strong sense of unease, smiling where she has to and engaging in idle chitchat with her colleagues and superiors. When it came time for her departmentâs presentation, she watched her boss present their work intently, though she couldnât help but whisper something to the person beside her, âMerlin, does he have to make it sound so boring?â A shake of her head, âI swear itâs more interesting than it sounds.â
âitâs alright,â they assure with a smile, voice hushed alongside hers, âtheyâve ALL been boring.â charlieâs more than familiar with the litany of dull and dragging voices that come along with ANYONE trying to make a department or position sound impressive in the form of a presentation. maybe thatâs simply the fact that charlie has never been the sort to be able to get anything worthwhile from a lecture talking, but he truly cannot remember the last time he was able to sit and listen to someone drone on and on and not find themself bored beyond belief.
ââ; Public events were not on the list of things that Bill considered himself actively enthusiastic about. He had thought that with his particular skill in dodging such scenarios, the powers that be would have surely given up on getting him to make an appearance. Heâd have preferred to stay at home pouring over pages that were relevant to his work rather than field off fake sincerity.
He reckons that with the way he and the rest of the âheroesâ are pushed to the sidelines upon arrival that it wonât be too long until the group are no longer welcomed in the ministryâs games. Despite his thoughts, Bill doesnât miss the person next to him. âIâll chew my own leg if something doesnât kick off tonightâ He states, using his drink to salute the person.
itâs somewhat comforting to know that they arenât the only one TERRIBLY UNHAPPY to be here. charlie has never been one for SOCIAL FUNCTIONS - rather obviously, he likes to think ; someone doesnât move to a remote dragon sanctuary because they want a full social calendar. they quite specifically have been out of town every year this day up until now - so they are, unfortunately, in attendance for another gala. at least bill ALSO looks miserable.
charlie knocks their drink against his and gives a low laugh, shaking their head. âbest way to see something happen is to kick it off yourself, yeah?â WHAT KIND OF YOUNGER SIBLING WOULD THEY BE IF THEY DIDNâT ENCOURAGE CHAOS? and it is not often charlie gets to play anything but the older sibling - theyâll take the break offered by bill being around.
hĂŠlène laughed, the first genuine laugh to escape her lips in what felt like an eternity. it felt good, she hadnât felt that good in a while. she thought about telling charlie, but she didnât want to scare them away so instead she smiled. âyou have a lot more faith in me than iâve ever had,â she responded, âit would make quite a good story,â she admitted, almost as if she were actually considering it. âi take it, he wasnât there for long?â
charlie laughs a little, too, shrugging their shoulders sheepishly. âi dunno - you spend enough time around the beasts and yâget a feel for who theyâd get along with.â itâs TRUE - he isnât just trying to flatter her. it takes a level head and gentle voice that can go sharp when needed and a certain level of GRIT ; all things they feel hĂŠlène likely has. cheeks go a touch pink at the question and they look down at their hands for a moment. ânot too long, no,â HOW TO SAY IT? âbut iâm - so glad we met again.â
âDo not think I am so easy to fool. I will see right through that charade.â She says, chuckling. Of course, Fleur prided herself on her gift-giving â taking extra time at the holidays to pick out the perfect gifts for just about everyone in her life ( and, ever since Mrs Weasley had taught her to knit â sheâd been toying with the idea of providing her husbandâs family with matching beanies to go with their annual sweaters â though she wasnât sure she was quite up to the standards laid out by her mother-in-law just yet ).Â
âI never said that,â Fleur shakes her head, sipping again at the now pleasantly warm tea in her hands, âI am simply⌠yet to see evidence to the contrary.â She chuckles â tone remaining light and teasing. It was true, was it not? Sheâd only been to Charlieâs apartment a handful of times, and they had yet to properly decorate it â the place didnât quite feel like a home, and Fleur would know â sheâd spent years curating Shell Cottage. âMerveilleuse!â She says, clapping her hands together, âI have been waiting so long for you to ask me that. You have such a lovely space there â so much you could do with it, hm?â
âi donât know,â they shrug, mischief sparking in their eyes and smile, âiâm a PRETTY GOOD actor, if i do say so myself.â charlie knows they arenât, not really. theyâre more like an open book most days ; terrible at masking how they feel unless in the more dire of circumstances. itâs both a GOOD and BAD thing. the mug is pushed back and forth across the countertop and they laugh.
âyeah yeah,â a hand waves as if to dismiss the idea that he canât decorate. itâs not even that he CANâT, really. just that it has been harder with the flat then it ever was with a childhood bedroom or the cottage at the sanctuary. maybe something about settling in, about not feeling AT HOME here anymore, about decorating meaning theyâll be staying for long. charlie doesnât know. âwhatâve you got in mind, then?â
hĂŠlèneâs knowledge of dragons was minimal at best, sheâd taken a care of magical creatures course at beauxbatons, but that had been thirty years ago and it hadnât covered dragons. that didnât mean she wasnât interested in what charlie had to say, in fact she was quite excited to hear them talk about their passion, she just wasnât sure sheâd know what they were talking about.  âiâm sure i wouldnât last ten minutes,â she admitted with a laugh, âthat must be so exhilarating,â she landed on her choice with a smile, âhas damien been to visit?â
they smile and shake their head, âi think youâd do great,â charlie says with all the confidence of someone who both believes what heâs saying AND wants to be liked by her terribly. it would be awful if they donât get on. thank merlin she seems so KIND. âyou could come visit sometimes, if you like. itâs lovely, and there are places we only keep the smaller dragons around.â color flushes quick and hot against their cheeks and they nod quickly. âoh, uh - yeah. yeah. itâs where we...we met a while ago, before things got more serious. he was there.â

âFriends and family discount?â George repeats, âI donât recall that being an official Weasleysâ Wizard Wheezes policy. Besides, if I just gave out discounts willy-nilly to all my friends and family, Iâd be haemorrhaging money. This isnât just a hobby, Charles, Iâm trying to turn a profit, you know.â A chuckle escapes him then â perhaps the first breath George has stopped to take since he started talking. Theyâre only teasing, of course â if it meant Charlie would visit more often, heâd probably let them take whatever they wanted from the store ( well⌠at the very least, from the clearance section ), though they werenât too sure what use Charlie would have for the assortment of goods stocked at Fred & Georgeâs store.
Their eyes track down to Charlieâs hands, following the swirling lines of steam rising from the takeaway cups â no doubt holding a beverage hot enough to warm George up â the wintery chill in the air already starting to redden their nose and bite at their fingertips. Another wry laugh escapes them as they watch Charlie nearly drop the entire precarious arrangement ( they take a step to steady them, though it likely wouldnât have done much good but ensure that George ended up covered in whatever was inside the cups when they fell ), âNormally I wouldâve given you shit for that display, but youâre bringing me tea and scones, so Iâll let it slide just this once.â He says, hanging off the doorway and gesturing for Charlie to enter, âAfter you, and nice save, by the way.â
they pull a face in response to the ribbing, only just managing to stop short of childishly sticking their tongue out at george. itâs a CLOSE call. âyou should make it official, then,â charlie shakes their head as if disappointed that itâs not already on the books. not like they really have much use for anything in the joke shop ; aside from perhaps bringing a handful of things back with him to romania next charlie visits to show the others there and brag about their little sibling. it wouldnât be the first time - in fact, the other workers have ribbed charlie multiple times over the years for how much they speak about their family.
âthanks for your leniency,â charlie deadpans, but his smile gives their amusement away. itâs a look oft given to the twins - to GEORGE, steady eyes trying to remain serious while lips quirk up uncontrollably. they shake their head and enter when george motions for them to. the shop is still QUIET ; an unusual thing to witness, still, not yet bustling with excited children and gossiping teens and adults who try their best to pretend they arenât interested in the endless pranks and jokes found within. charlie strides right towards the first clear surface he spots and sets down the try in order to not wind up spilling it all over a display. âtheyâre blueberry, hope thatâs alright.â
WHO: George & Open
WHERE: Weasleyâs Wizard Wheezes
Truth be told, when he and Fred had first opened the store, George hadnât been entirely convinced of its longevity. Theyâd thought it would be fun, of course, and theyâd hoped for a steady influx of customers each day â but it had always been FRED who had been convinced that the store would become a raging success. And, well, when Fred was convinced of something â there was usually a reason for that. Now, almost a decade after theyâd first opened their doors ( a brief interlude in trading notwithstanding ), WEASLEYâS WIZARD WHEEZES was still going strong â albeit, without its co-founder here to reap the rewards of his efforts.
There had been a time where George wasnât sure they would ever reopen the doors of the store ( multiple times, actually â though only in darker moments ), but giving up on the dream and walking away seemed somehow worse than continuing without their twin. Heâd have wanted Fred to keep it going, were the situations reversed, wouldnât he? Theyâre sure that if theyâd continue to wallow in their own self-pity, Fred mightâve come back as a ghost and smacked them on the back of the head. So, the doors reopened, and George started running things on his own â though it was never quite as fun, he fell into a routine, and managed to keep the business alive in spite of the persistent feeling that something was missing. Â
Theyâre punctual â more than Fred had ever been. The sign on the front of the store says the open at 10am, and so George ensures that, every morning, the door is unlocked at this time and ready to welcome customers ( except on Sundays, of course â when the store doesnât open until 12 noon, they figure theyâre entitled to a day of rest, thank you very much ). Granted, they donât usually get much business this early in the morning ( somehow, shopping for joke devices never seems to be the first thing on peopleâs to-do lists ) â which is why George is surprised when he comes downstairs to open the storefront and spots someone out the front as he unlocks the doors.Â
âMorning,â They say, leaning against the doorway, âYou here to see me, or to have a browse? Weâve got a sale on anti-gravity hats if that tickles your fancy â fifty percent off or your best offer.â
@startertms
âdo i not get the FRIENDS & FAMILY DISCOUNTÂ anymore?â hands are shoved in the pockets of his jacket and charlie scuffs the toe of a work-boot on the stoop in a show of faux sheepishness. the bright grin across their face is more than enough to give away the fact there is nothing SHEEPISHÂ within charlie weasley. not right now, at least.Â
there was a time when the sight of the shop had set their teeth on edge and dredged up the memories charlie doesnât have ( because they werenât here, because they were off in romania living a life away from family and not seeing fred here, flourishing, doing what he wanted. it was too late by the time charlie saw the shop ) but now that has mellowed to something that only sends the barest twinge of GRIEFGUILT flooding the bottom of their stomach. itâs fine. a tray of to-go cups with a paper bag balanced precariously between the two steaming cups is held aloft and then charlie has to move quickly to keep from the whole thing tilting over. âah, fuck,â the tray is righted and they give a little flourish, âignore that. i was in the neighborhood and thought iâd drop by. tea and scone? theyâre from the place down the street.â
everything seemed to be going well so far, hĂŠlène thought, which was a good sign. though she knew better than to relax too much, charlie was important to damien which meant this meeting was important. nothing was going to ruin it. âplease donât apologize,â she reassured them, even allowing a small laugh to escape from her lips. âchamomile it is,â she smiled, flicking her wand, returning her attention to charlie as her kettle set about filling itself. âdamien tells me you work with dragons,â she decided that their career would be a safe place to start, âyou must tell me what itâs like!â
the question has something more relaxed coming out in charlieâs smile, hands settled in their lap. they could talk about dragons ALL DAY if allowed ; they make a mental note not to ramble about it too much for too long and bore hĂŠlène half to death with the intricate detail of the feeding schedules of any given species. âi do,â they nod, âitâs - great. my first love, honestly. iâm with the romanian dragon sanctuary - i used to live on site but decided to move home to be closer to my family, but, uh - i portkey back and forth, now. itâs not really for the faint of heart,â a chuckle, âyou know - some of them are docile as a puppy one day and ready to breathe fire at you the next, but thatâs part of what makes it so great. keeps you on your toes all the time.â
âĂa, alors! Just like a real adult.â Fleur chuckles â though she doesnât doubt that Charlie has at least SOME basic life skills â they had been living in Romania for some time before she even met them, and she knew Molly Weasley wouldnât let any of the children under her roof escape without learning at least some cooking. Teasing just came NATURALLY. âI believe you â but only because you flatter me.â She chuckles, leaning against the counter as she blows steam off her mug before sipping at it.
Fleur had not grown up with a BIG FAMILY â though she had always had Gabrielle ( and adored her more than just about ANYTHING in the world ), part of her had always WONDERED what it would have been like to have more siblings â perhaps she ENVIED Bill in this regard, though she also understood the RESPONSIBILITY of the oldest sibling, and knew that this was only amplified for Bill six-fold. Still, joining the Weasley family felt like Fleur was a touch closer to understanding what it was like to grow up in a big family, or, at the very least, what it was like to exist in one NOW.
âI will take you up on that soon. Iâm not sure I have ever actually been inside of your apartment for more than a few minutes at a time. Have you decorated it yet, or no?âÂ
âtais-toi,â they laugh, shaking their head at the teasing and leaning back in their chair while taking a sip of scalding tea. âiâll have to remember to boost up the flattery around holidays, then.â thereâs something about fleurâs company, especially in the relative calm of shell cottage as opposed to the burrow, that amplifies charlieâs need to goof off a bit. maybe itâs just being in the vicinity of bill that lets them feel like a YOUNGER sibling as opposed to an older one.
charlie sets the mug down on the countertop and shakes his head. âwhy does everyone think i donât know how to decorate?â they donât, so itâs a VALID question, which they concede to after a second. âdamien and tonks bullied me into starting. iâve got some stuff now, but your discerning eye and impeccable taste could always be helpful.â
hĂŠlène smiled, âitâs lovely to meet you too dear,â she responded, gently placing her hand on his arm. it was meant to reassure charlie, to calm any nerves they might be having. she wanted charlie to feel comfortable, part of the reason she had suggested tea in the first place. she had always felt her most comfortable when enjoying tea. âdo you have a favorite kind?â she inquired, allowing her hand to return to her side, âiâve always been partial to chamomile, but weâll have whatever you prefer.â
sheâs nice. charlie isnât surprised - damienâs kindness had to have been sewn somewhere, and it seems hĂŠlène was responsible for such a thing. the smile they offer is a little less nervous and charlie takes a long, quiet breath. PULL IT TOGETHER, CHARLES. âchamomile sounds great, mrs - hĂŠlène, sorry.â a breathy little chuckle follows the slip and a hand rubs at the back of their neck in an idle display of nerves.

they canât stand to be in the castle any longer. it had only taken a glance at the memorial, at fredâs name carved there, to send them out - out of the hall, out the doors, out across the lawn. GRIEFGUILTSHAME chokes charlie and they make the mental note to call ojala and schedule a session with her soon ; it had SOMEHOW, IN THE CHAOS OF THE YEAR, slipped charlieâs mind to be sure and see his therapist before the anniversary. teeth sink into the inside of his cheek and charlie looks down at the smooth stone in their hand, a little pile gathered beside them. they scarcely remember doing it. âhey,â it takes charlie by surprise that their voice is so rough and they clear their throat, pull back their arm, and throw the stone. it skips across the surface a handful of times before sinking.
IF YOUâD GOTTEN HERE A LITTLE EARLIER, their mind whispers, IF YOUâD NEVER LEFT AT ALL. they are traitorous little thoughts that sink claws deep into their mind. âneeded some air. iâll be back in in a bit.âÂ
WHO: Fleur & Charlie ( @dragonwâ )
WHERE: Shell Cottage
WHEN: April, 2021
WHEN SHE AND BILL HAD FIRST BECOME ENGAGED, FLEUR DID NOT GET OFF TO THE BEST START WITH HIS FAMILY. She knows now that the Weasleys are KIND people â that they are generous with their time, their love, and their spirit â but she had been surprised to be met with HOSTILITY when she had first been introduced to them. Perhaps it had been ARROGANT of her to expect to be greeted with immediate AFFECTION by her new family, but she could admit that sheâd been somewhat TAKEN ABACK by their attitudes towards her.Â
CHARLIE WEASLEY had been the outlier. Though she HARDLY cared what others thought of her â Charlie had been openly KIND towards Fleur, and this was something sheâd held tight to, a memory that she still treasured though sheâd since smoothed things over with the rest of the Weasley brood. Fleur was never quick to forget SLIGHTS against her, nor was she quick to forget KINDNESSES towards her.
âYou know,â She says, as she hovers in the kitchen of SHELL COTTAGE, waiting for her kettle to boil â âI am starting to think that you only come here around tea time so that I will feed you â not for my outstanding company.â Fleur had worked the last three straight days at St Mungoâs, and was enjoying a well-deserved BREAK at home when she had been joined by Charlie. Though she pretended to be annoyed, she was ALWAYS glad for his company.
The kettle boils, and Fleur pours out the steaming water into two mugs, depositing a teabag into each one before sliding one across the counter to Charlie. Her husband will still be at work for the next couple of hours â by Fleurâs best estimate ( though it wasnât UNCOMMON for him to become to wrapped up in what he was doing and return home much later â it was difficult for Fleur to be upset when Billâs PASSION had been one of the reasons sheâd fallen in love with him ). âFeel free to defend yourself.â
âAW, COME ON. i could always make myself tea, iâve been doing it for years.â while it is not technically UNTRUE - charlie can cook for themself, thank you very much - the meals at the sanctuary had usually been spearheaded by someone else ; or charlie had at least had a set of helping hands when it came âround to their turn to take care of a meal. the cup is caught with ease as itâs slid across the countertop and they smile across the kitchen at fleur. âiâm here for the great company.â
it had seemed a no-brainer to like fleur. what is there not to like? a kind, intelligent, empathetic, and genuinely lovely person had fallen in love with their brother ; itâs the sort of addition to the family anyone would be lucky to have. charlie had immediately taken a liking to her the first time they met, charlie laden with gifts for family brought from romania but pitifully empty for fleur. taking her out to grab lunch and get to know her had been second nature.
itâs nice to have a friend like this now. charlie likes shell cottage, likes talking to fleur, likes the occasional reprieve from their own flat that is still woefully under-decorated, despite damien and tonksâ attempts. it just - isnât lived in quite yet. doesnât have the mementos of home that charlie had grown up with and had slowly accumulated in their cabin at the sanctuary. fleur and billâs home is just that ; a home. âyouâll have to come to mine so i can make something for you.â
