Our leaders have turned the fentanyl crisis into a political football. Republicans blame Democrats for weak border policies, while Democrats claim they are cracking down on traffickers—but neither side has proposed a real solution. They grandstand in ads and make empty promises, yet the “Preventing Deadly Fentanyl Trafficking Act” has been stuck in the Senate for months, and the government still hasn’t permanently scheduled all fentanyl-related substances. China, in contrast, took decisive action in 2019 to ban all fentanyl classes globally, while our government drags its feet.
