It was the height of the afternoon when Aloy made her next visit to Scalding Spear.
Drakka was tired. He’d suffered through a long morning meeting with the village leaders, followed by what felt like an even longer meeting with Jetakka before the Chaplain headed off to report in at the Grove. He’d done some training and he’d checked in with Scalding Spear’s squad leaders, and he was about to go and take a quick midday nap when he saw the telltale flash of Aloy’s hair at the weaponsmith’s alcove below.
His heart lifted, and he went into his blessedly-shaded quarters to wait for her to come to him. He stripped down to his shorts and flopped down on his bunk, and sure enough, he was only lounging there for a couple of minutes before he saw the silhouette of her feet outside of his privacy curtain.
A second later, she pushed the curtain back. “You bellowed?” she said archly.
He lifted his head and gave her his best smile. “Just wanted to make sure you didn’t miss me.”
She folded her arms and leaned against the entryway. “Okay. Well, what is it?”
He gave her a mock-sad look. “Hey, at least admit that you came up here looking for me.”
She pursed her lips, and he chuckled and rested his head back on his folded arms. “Come on, get in here already. Make yourself comfortable. As comfortable as you can, at least.”
She sidled cautiously into his quarters and started taking off her weapons. “Are you admitting that it’s too hot out, then?”
“It’s as hot as it always is, Desert Flame. You’d know that if you stopped by more often.”
