❝   AH ,  NANCE ,  YOU  ARE  IN  FOR  A  TREAT .   ❞   Joe’s  voice  echoes  along  the  hallway  as  he  pads  toward  the  living  room ,  a  damp  towel  hanging  around  his  neck .  It  had  taken  him  nearly  an  hour  of  scrubbing  in  the  shower  to  feel  clean  again  after  the  afternoon  the  two  of  them  had  spent  traversing  the  city  by  sewer .  The  only  silver  lining  was  that  their  grimy  outing  had  given  him  the  perfect  idea  for  their  movie  night .  

❝  You’re  about  to  meet  .  .  .  the  Teenage .  Mutant .  Ninja  Turtles !    ❞   He  snatches  the  remote  off  the  coffee  table  and  tumbles  down  into  the  spot  beside  Nancy.   ❝   You’re  gonna  love  them ;  they’re  so  relatable !  They’re  crime -  fighting  sewer - dwellers  ––  just  like  us !  ❞   He  jostles  her  shoulder  with  a  gentle  hand ,  the  corners  of  his  mouth  digging  into  his  cheeks .  ❝   I  have  a  feeling  you’re  gonna  be  a  Leonardo .  You’ve  both  got  that  ‘ intelligent  leader ‘  vibe  going  on .   ❞

       he knew his friend was lying – after half a decade of living together, he’d gotten pretty good at reading joe. especially when it came to joe and bess. ned was actually kind of disappointed in himself for not deliberately planning all of this. he was thinking of scheming a way to get the two of them to finally talk to each other — but this was WAY too quick and sudden, and now he had to deal with the potential damage that he wasn’t sure some pepperoni slices could fix. but hearing that they shared some ice cream felt so familiar… that had to be good, right? “ah, that makes sense, then. no worries, we can always save the leftovers for tomorrow.” ned finishes up his own slice and then closes the pizza box, storing it away in the fridge for later. “oh, we didn’t talk for too long, she had —” wedding planning things to get to. “– uh, other plans. she’s okay, she says. still trying to adjust back to the new york lifestyle. she did miss it,” and you, probably, ned wants to add, but he holds his tongue. still too soon to intervene. “but it’s a lot.” he takes his plate to the sink, not really knowing what else to do. “are you sure you’re doing okay, joe?”
