I have to admit that I fully understand why this didn’t see the light of day. You can feel that the well of creativity for the band had run dry at this point in their career. The strain after a decade of touring and work is fully evident.

At 15, yes, FIFTEEN TRACKS over an hour long it feels laborious to get through.

The guitar work, lyrics, and song compositions for some songs feel uninspired and something I never thought I’d say about MCR…just boring and predictable. They are emulating the sounds of other better songs by classic bands a lot here, more so than they did on The Black Parade. There is a song on this that is just a worse version of Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins and of course Gerard emulates Bowie in a few tracks. You can feel how this is a precursor to Hesitant Alien.

That isn’t to say all of them have been bad! Fake Your Death, Witch, Bike Thief, Paper Swords, Dive and High Hopes are decent. But obviously need work (Fake Your Death getting a better studio recording and actually being released is not surprising considering the rest)

None of these songs have been as memorable as anything on any of the rest of their officially released work, some of which is not even half as long as this album. It’s cool to get to listen to their behind the scenes process here but it falls victim to the same things stuff like Be Here Now by Oasis did; songs are too long, the choruses aren’t entirely memorable, and the album itself is overly long with not enough tonal shifts to have a diverse enough palette of songs to feel like unique tracks. They even have a fucking horn section in one of these that sounds like Be Here Now lmaoooo.

Love MCR and cannot wait for MCR5, but I can’t say I’ll be revisiting much of any of TPK any time soon. I understand why a majority of this stayed as demos and it doesn’t feel like a very cohesive concept at all. As a fan having listened to the fellas for over two decades now and having been witness to every iteration of the band I feel I can safely say that and not feel bad. The kid in me is excited to have finally heard this, the adult that I now am understands that even our faves are human and also swing and miss sometimes.

"IF ONLY. HONEST TO GOD. Like I was fully expecting for it to be a joke and the next day, four more episodes would be released that would conclude in the reappearance of the Handler and she's breaking the fourth wall going "See, kids. This is why we don't break the timeline." Then camera pans towards our actual Hargreeves family who are looking on in disgust as it gradually becomes clear that our Umbrellas were watching one of the Commissions computers at a timeline where Allison agreed to work with Reggie.

Sparrow Ben is so fucking pissed that he technically died again in one of the nastiest ways possible, going off about "First of all, I would never be around those losers anyway. 2ndly, Like fuck am I winding up in prison for bullshit crypto." Five has several flasks that he is drinking till dry and Lila is throwing up in a trashcan at the idea of sleeping with her Brother-in-law. Klaus is sitting on one of the desks eating popcorn and Luther is holding onto Sloane' hand so tightly that she has to remind him to let go."

I couldn’t find a video of this sequence, but remember this? It’s after Five wakes up, hungover from sloane and luther’s wedding. The way he remembers it, he got extremely drunk and said something extremely humiliating or offensive. He remembers everyone staring at him like they either hate him or simply don’t care about what he has to say. It seems like they’re judging him. They almost look disappointed.

In reality, they all lovingly tease him for being a fun and affectionate drunk.

But ALSO he has to deal with the past-middle-age man feeling of “does my family even love/respect me?”

"This is my apocalypse."

"Your apocalypse?"

"I was stuck here for 40 years."

Not a single voice crack, not a single slight change in his tone, nothing. Honestly if I was him, I would be fucking traumatized again, I'd force me and my companion to get tf outta there and go to a different subway instead of staying at the very place I was stuck in for almost decades, where I had no food, no water, no one with me by my side but just myself.

So, I headcanon that going in the apocalypse again, it sort of triggered Five in a way he started remembering everything he had suffered again. The body of his siblings, having to bury them at only 13. Seeing as their corpse slowly rot, and having to see their skeleton. (God that's actually genuinely disturbing)

Then he started having nightmares about it every night to the point where he can't sleep anymore and he ends up tired while he goes to work in the CIA. His boss is concerned and asked if he's had any proper sleep, he dismisses it and tries to avoid any other concerns from his other co workers.

THEN he'd probably start drinking again just to "distract" himself from that trauma again. (Think of this as like an unhealthy coping mechanism to get away from the trauma or to distract himself from it)

In terms of the show or in terms of my fics? The answer to both is Yes.

In the show, alcohol is one of Five's unhealthy coping mechanisms for all the shit he's lived through. It's shown in the flashback in S1E5 that he drank more than he should back in the apocalypse (Delores admonishes him for the wine and he has to defend himself to her (...himself) for chugging his glass). He gets horrendously drunk when he hits a dead end with the eye - his only clue to stopping the apocalypse. The first thing he does when it seems like they have stopped the apocalypse is have a margarita with Delores. S3 all he does is drink, especially after he watches himself die and loses anything beyond "don't save the world."

Lila's noticing that Five's started to open up to her, and she's happy about that fact. She notices him starting to look at her differently, initiating physical touch and generally being softer. She even starts to encourage it, subtly creating situations designed to increase the closeness.

She starts to notice his looks a little more, particularly the lines and hollows of his neck. She's kind of fascinated by it, in fact.

Build up the romance and tension for as long as possible, perhaps for multiple chapters. Maybe they have a heart to heart about how hard it was killing for the Commission; maybe she gets ill and he nurses her back to health, starving himself to give her better food rations; maybe we see them play chess, and the sexual tension simply ripples off Five as Lila manages to outplay him.

Then Five finds a razor, and Lila offers to help him shave. Five is pretty intrigued by this prospect, maybe he's even a little hot and bothered by it: blown pupils as he feels the metal across his cheek, heart beating faster at the feeling of her fingers on his neck...

And then she slits his throat.

Because It doesn't matter that she has her parents in the new timeline: they're strangers, and Five stole a chihood filled with love and affection from her.

She feels nothing but satisfaction as she watches him gurgling himself to death, his pretty but oh-so-fragile throat gaping and belching blood.

The look of hurt and betrayal in his eyes seems only right, given the magnitude of hurt he caused her.

She swore she'd kill him, and now she has. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and killing is always personal.

Lila saw five when 13-19 and if ignored the 54-72 age mentality and that is extremely fucking creepy that she developed feelings for him, she saw him grow up and go through second puberty and it's not helping she only liked him as an escape from her life like that and 7 years... Nah best they stayed completely platonic

And also surprisingly this kinda applies to the actors and ritu watch aidan grow during the show up to freshly 18 /20 and the fucking creep decided that as soon as aidan turned 18 make him kiss someone who much older than him (not being rude to ritu , she was as much as a victim as aidan) and that they weren't properly trained to do this not even having intimacy director to properly do it and my god that is making me cringe so fucking hard and that ritu was 35 so there was a 17-15 age gap in the ages aidan to ritu

...But honestly the idea grosses me out too much that I can't do it, even to make the very point that this is a gross concept.

I feel like giving Lila her family back was just another way the writers hand-waved away the barriers to them having a relationship.

He killed Lila's parents? Welp, they're back now!

Five's physically 18 at the start of season 4? Well, let's do a single montage in which 7 years pass and then stick Aidan in a jumper that makes him look less skinny ! He's 25 now, bitches!
