âWonât let anybody in causeâ thereâs no food.â Rufus grunts. The blade in his right hand starts to trim some meat from a thigh. Most of it was unusable there, either from it being fat or the general wear on the body. Otis really fucked this one up.
âLess you wanna gnaw on a bone like a dog yee shit outta luck, girl.â
Baby groans and rolls her eyes, âThat dog better watch it. Iâm about hungry enough to start gnawinâ on him.â She rests her golden head in her hand and watches quietly for a minute as her brother works at the carcass. She could easily fall into a kind of trance, this way, watching his knife separate meat from bone.Â
âItâs yer own fault.â Rufus said matter of factly. Because it was. Damn girl paid too much attention to playing with her dolls and slicinâ up whoever they got chained in the basement without remembering to take care of herself. One time heâd walked in on her doubled over in a pile of muck and gore out back- not from any stragglers knocking her on her ass, but from sheer exhaustion.
It was annoying. So fuckinâ annoying.
âGonna take time to get this ready. The way the meatâs up itâs gonna have to be shoved in a slow cooker for a roast.....âÂ
It was all tough. The muscle was too stringy to be anything other than a pot roast. All the best cuts had been pulverized into nothing by that string bean bitch what lived down the hall from him.
âGo in the fridge anâ getcha some lunchmeat out.â
